Concept
Photosynthesis: Food Making Process
of the plants

Other Integration:
DRRM – Avoid cutting of trees
Tourism – Local Delicacies
ICT – PPT, Zip Grade, Teacher Kit, Phet Colorado, QR
GAD – Gender sensitive language & images
Values – Protecting environment

GUIDING PRINCIPLES

 This culture-based integration serves as to identify “banig” particularly in Basey, Samar as a local cultural
icon.
I. Learning
 Competency
Contextualization and Lesson
is the education processCode
of relating the curriculum to a particular setting, situation, or
area of application to make the competencies relevant, meaningful to all learners.
Learning Competency
Different basic feature and importance of photosynthesis of and
respiration
Code
S9LT- lg-j-31

Content Standard
The structure and function of plant parts and organelles involved in
photosynthesis.

Performance Standard

Design and conduct an investigation to provide evidence that plants can

manufacture their own food Specific Objectives
At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:
1. State organelles of the plant involved in photosynthesis and Cite
the importance of photosynthesis.
2. Investigate to provide evidence that plants can
manufacture their own food
3. Create a video presentation about the important factors in the
food making process of the plant.

Values Integration

Appreciating the importance of plants not only as food but also

protecting human to avoid flooding and in other natural calamities.

II. Content
Subject Matter : : Photosynthesis
(The food making process of the plant.)

Time frame : 60 minutes

III. Procedure
Strategies/Approaches: Discussion, Discovery Approach

(Checking of Attendance (Utilize Teacher’s Kit)

A. Establishing the Purpose of the Lesson (5 Minutes)

Prepare a delicacy available in the locality. Let the students taste it and
describe the taste. Ask the students the taste. Let the student compare the
ways of human and plant in eating foods.

B. Presenting examples/instance of the new lesson (5 minutes)

Divide the class into 4 groups. Give them a QR code of the words to be
unlock and let them read it aloud. Present the definition of the words.

C. Discussing the new concept and practicing new skill (15 Minutes)
Show to the students a simulation from Phet Colorado about
Photosynthesis. Discuss the following concept to the students. Ask the
students to scan the code to get the lesson notes.

Photosynthesis - is the process in which plants make their own foods.

Photosynthesis is a Greek word “Photo” means light and “synthesis”
means put it together.

Essential Factors of Photosynthesis

Sunlight (Sun)
Carbon Dioxide (Air)
Water & nutrients (soil)
Organelle of plant involve in the food
making process
Xylem
Stomata
Chloroplast

D. Developing Mastery (20 minutes)

Divide the students into 4 groups.
1. 1st group will draw the importance of photosynthesis and evidences of
photosynthesis.
2. 2nd group will compose a song about importance of photosynthesis and
evidences of photosynthesis.
3. 3rd group will conduct a talk show showing the importance of
photosynthesis and evidences of photosynthesis.
4. 4th group show a radio broadcast showing the importance of
photosynthesis and evidences of photosynthesis.

E. Finding the Practical Application of Concepts and Skills in daily Living (5

Minutes)

Appreciating the importance of plants not only as food but also protecting
human to avoid flooding and in other natural calamities. Ask the students to
identify the importance of plants.

F. Making generalizations and abstractions about the lesson (5 Minutes)

The teacher should ask the students to give generalization base of the concepts
discussed and their relative ideas about photosynthesis. The teacher should emphasize
the key concept below:

“Life is powered by sunlight. The energy used by the most living cell
comes ultimately from the sun. Plants use energy from the sunlight to
produce its own food in the process called photosynthesis. Photosynthesis
is important for the plant grow. The decrease of carbon dioxide in the
atmosphere will be realized also in photosynthesis for the reason that
carbon dioxide is one of the raw material in photosynthesis.”

G. Evaluation (5 Minutes) (use Zip grade for the checking of answers).

1. Which of the following is not a factor affecting photosynthesis?
a. Sunlight c. Water
b. Carbon dioxide d. Acid

2. A tiny tube responsible in transporting water and nutrients from the root to the
entire parts of the plants.
a. Xylem c. Chloroplast
b. Leave d. Stomata

3. It is the tiny opening of a leaf.

a. Chloroplast c. Leave
b. Stomata d. Xylem
4. What are the two raw ingredients that a plant needs in order to produce its
food?
a. Oxygen and Water
b. Soil and Oxygen
c. Carbon Dioxide and Water
d. Water and Sugar

5. The complex process by which carbon dioxide and water are converted into
glucose and oxygen by green plants, using energy from the sun and chlorophyll.
a. photosynthesis
b. oxidation
c. combustion
d. respiration

H. Additional activities for application or remediation

Performance Tasks as evidence of Understanding.

Give the following instruction to the students;
Make photo documentation album about the different plant undergo the
process of photosynthesis. Show also in the photo documentation the
importance of photosynthesis. Use your smartphones or any cameras. Give a
short description to the photos you collected.

Your output will be rated based on the fallowing criteria.
