Question 2
A separately excited generator gave the following data for open circuit characteristic at 1000
RPM
The armature resistance, including brushes is 5 Ω. If the generator is now shunt connected and
is driven at 1100 RPM, then for a total shunt field of 180 Ω, calculate
(a) No load e.m.f.
(b) The output current and shunt field current for a terminal voltage of 190 V
(c) The maximum output current and the corresponding terminal voltage aisi tangent line kheencho , jo
curve ko sabse zyada door
(d) Steady state short circuit current ( I f = 0 ) TOUCH kare and get Ea max
For the above parts neglect armature reaction and Ia max (intercept=ia.ra)
Question 3
A 230 V, DC shunt motor, takes an armature current of 3.33 A at rated voltage and at a no-load
speed of 1000 RPM. The resistance of the armature circuit and field circuit 0.3 Ω and 160 Ω.
The line current at full load and rated voltage is 40 A. Calculate, at full load, the speed, and the
developed torque in case the armature reaction weakens the no-load flux by 4 %.
Question 4
A 250 V, 4 pole shunt motor has two circuit armature winding with 500 conductors. The
armature circuit resistance is 0.25 Ω, field resistance is 125 Ω and the flux per pole is 0.02 Wb.
Armature reaction is neglected. If the motor draws 14 A from the mains, then compute
(a) Speed and the internal (total or gross) torque developed,
(b) The shaft power, shaft torque and efficiency with rottional losses equal to 300 watts
Answer 4: Speed 74 RPM, Shaft Power = 2664 W, Shaft Torque = 34.4 Nm, Efficiency =
76.2 %
Question 5
A 40 kW, 250 kW DC series motor euns at a speed of 1500 RPM while taking rated current
from 250 V supply mains. The sum of armature circuit resistance and series field resistance is
0.2 Ω. The motor is coupled to drive a load having the torque speed characteristics given by
𝑇# = 5√𝑛
Where 𝑇# is in Nm and n is in RPM
If the motor is energized from a 250 V DC source, find
(a) The operating speed of the motor and connected load and
(b) The current drawn from the source
Neglect magnetic saturation, armature reaction and rotational losses
