REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE

“Redevelopment of Filinvest Land “Activa” as a sustainable contemporary township, in

relation to climate crisis"

#1 TITLE: “Contribution of Infrastructure to the Township’s Sustainable Development in

Southwest China”

-This study is defined as basically the performance for the whole infrastructures seen
as a contribution, a township. This is done to coordinate development among social,
environmental and economic aspects of a township’s sustainability. Following the
methods that surpassed generations, making history in a sustainable approach takes
necessary assessments in these infrastructures according to SCOI and provides
choices for investment to maximize resource utilization. According to (Tam V. 2022) ,
the assessing of the model by SCOI has only 26 general indicators developed.
Meaning, these covered five most urgently needed infrastructures of these townships
in Southwest China, that includes the railroad transport, sewage and stormwater,
waste management disposal, gas and water supply. With the use of this model, it is
more effective in both quantitative and qualitative methods when it is combined to
acquire differences in using SCOI for every infrastructure. Results vary if using SCOI
would be an important reference for infrastructure as a form of investment.

#2 TITLE: “Sustainable dimension adaptation measure in green township”

-This is its own and built in environment wherein structures are connected and at the
same time related. In social context and financial dynamics it is considered that
neighborhoods were the priority and the perimeter to a specifically-defined boundary
that includes communal acquaintance that exists between occupants. It is shown
that the enhancement of a neighborhood/township must apply sustainability on or
before the process of construction. Townships were discussed as a literal residential
and commercial project and this keeps the value of sustainability and understands
the value of its building infrastructures, communal spaces in a community, and some
public infrastructure.

#3 TITLE: “Township Developments: A New Perspective”

-In the 2000s the rise of the townships and its development were mentioned and in
this year it officially exists. It is mentioned when major developers began to build
premier office buildings, mid-range to high-end condominium towers, luxury hotels,
and other establishments alongside each other to create a “live-work-play” lifestyle fit
for the modern urban dweller. Since then, the number of integrated townships within
and outside Metro Manila has continued to increase, making townships a real game
changer in the real estate landscape. In Asia, particularly in the southeast, the
Philippines has a total record of 81 existing townships with Luzon taking up almost
36% of the overall count, followed by Metro Manila with 30%, Visayas with 20%, and
Mindanao with 14%.

#4 TITLE: “Transforming communities in a form of sustainable township”

-Fully integrated and self-contained, the development is divided into districts with a
balanced mix of developments such as residences, leisure hubs, top educational
institutions, and medical and wellness facilities, all within close proximity for easy
walkability and safety. To involve and inspire the community to recycle, the parking
area of this charging station features sustainable pavers which use far less
equipment in production, Filinvest City has partnered with Green Antz to upcycle
residents’ plastics into building materials that would be used for purposeful display at
Filinvest City’s Central Park.

#5 TITLE: “Habitat for a new Millenium”

-It is seen in different variations of developments it has achieved over the past 30
years. However the improvements and these innovations were turning slow in terms
of development, despite it being given, the township looks forward to the next three
decades with even better innovations that will further enhance the quality of life of its
people and the environment. They’re already taking significant steps, beginning with
the city’s security, connectivity and accessibility. For motorists, the city offers its
ecological parking facility, featuring two slots of e-vehicle charging stations for public
use. To involve and inspire the community to recycle, the parking area of this
charging station features sustainable pavers which use far less equipment in
production

CASE STUDIES

#1 TITLE: Compare and Contrast of using Carbon Emission to Sustainable Materials

-The study wherein the said improvement was to practically prioritize the use of elements
which are sustainable in a township. Hence the trigger will be the costs and the construction
method used might cause a lot of boundary to irritate mother nature. In a case shown by the
United Nations Environmental Programme “To combat the decrease of the climate crisis
and secure a safe future below 1.5°C, the world needs to cut emissions of planet-warming
greenhouse gasses by 50 per cent within the decade. In many chances the ambitious
targets such as this can induce a sense of dread and paralysis. Researchers have said that
there are a lot of individuals who can do better to counter the terrors and threats of climate
change. In this case and research it has shown that lifestyle changes can help the planet
slash its emissions up to 70% by 2050. They indeed sat down with Garrette Clark, he is an
expert in sustainable living working together with United Nations Environment Programme
(UNEP), which makes more people learn more about these policymakers, who can make
sustainable choices to help secure a healthier planet.”
In relation to Architecture, the case was based on the majority of structures that lessen the
use of carbonized materials and replacing it with sustainable and materials that aren’t
harmful to the environment as well to the users.

#2 TITLE: Working sustainability action plan to create a Socio Environmental Township”

-Sustainability is what the earth and the architects aim for whether the project is a
residential or commercial. In terms of township, the longing of creating and innovating a
town that should contribute to the environment and not just by means of economic needs of
a country. Action plan was introduced by a reporter named Lonnie Huhman, the book was
written by him entitled “SCIO township Environmental and Sustainability Climate Action
Plan”. The book consists of ideas and suggestions or literally a plan to improve a project
specifically a township to be counted as sustainable and efficient. With of course the use of
natural resources to make the township alive and useful. According to Huhman, “it was
planned in a document that is nearly 100 pages. It is detailed and thorough. Its vision states:
“We envision Scio Township as a welcoming, resilient, carbon neutral, sustainable
community that embraces citizen well-being, environmental and economic viability.” “The
2023 Scio Township Environmental Sustainability & Climate Action Plan (ESCAP)
continuously guides and integrates the township operations, services, planning, policies,
ordinances, and investments to ensure the most sustainable, inclusive, GHG emission
reduction options are implemented.” (Huhman, 2023)

#3 TITLE: “Differences and significance of Sustainability to Climate Change”

-Their meaning and purpose isn’t far from one another, same goal, same importance and at
the same time the action plans go one way. Architecture has design considerations to make
a basis on which they are both factors that impact society and the environment. Climate
change is still an issue, a global issue that has impacts the environment and society in
several ways. This as well aims to reduce the impacts of climate change in terms of
sustainability that affect the environment and society. It as well determines the cause and
effects whichever was occurred, in determining human landscapes and living conditions,
which can impact both social and economic development. The impacts of climate change as
seen in today’s generation since in the past includes the rising of temperatures, continuous
rising of sea levels and climate change results such as flash floods, landslides and drought.
Impacts that can lead to negative effects on both society and the environment such as what
the world is experiencing, land degradation, disease, death, and mental health issues.

#4 TITLE: “Existing green and sustainable township named “Tay Valley”

-This explains what living in Tay Valley Township looks like. Tay Valley township is
subjected to a climate like much of the other countries in Asia, America and Latin America.
It has been studied that the climate is typically known by large seasonal temperature
differences, with warm to hot humid summers and spine chilling cold winters.” In different
seasons it has been experienced by others and which have shaped our local economy are
influenced by a gradual occurrence of climate change and was seen over a long time
period. Climate change has these changes in patterns that are distinguished by these
factors which were the volcanic eruptions, rapid movements of the earth’s crust, sights of
solar radiation received by earth’s ground and atmosphere, and vegetation being destroyed.
The researches were found globally and regional that swings in climate can be extreme, as
is evident by the many glacial and interglacial periods over earth’s history. It was only about
18,000 years ago, during the Ice Age, that Tay Valley Township, like much of North
America, was buried under ice about two kilometers thick. Since about 11,700 years ago,
earth has been in its latest interglacial (warmer) period, and this period is anticipated to last
another 50,000 years. Like what the authoritative Intergovernmental Panel on Climate
Change have said and suggested a long time ago.

#5 TITLE: Recommendation of a economical and carbonized in building footprints to protect

Townships reputation

-Townships were a mix of residential and commercial establishments, can be recognized as

subdivisions but much wider. Since it is wider, a lot of users and people will be able to use
or benefit in the said township. Now, the carbon footprints were supposed to apply the
element of sustainability. It is for development and at the same time its economical growth
should increase while it is at its limit. What the world needed right away is to gradually limit
global warming in up to less 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. Studies show that it is
constantly moving since estimates state that an increase in temperature that is around
estimated 1.5°C and this will automatically accelerate the climate crisis. Which results in an
increase of unpredictable and uncontrollable occurrence of disasters such biodiversity loss,
cyclones, great disasters etc. These ongoing episodes create a big impact on vulnerable
sections of society such as inequitable people; these are also included in economically poor
backgrounds which were first impacted but women, children, the elderly and sick are also
vulnerable. Everyone, irrespective of who we are, will bear the consequences of climate
collapse. These changes cause a lot of damage to buildings and other property, this goes
without saying. In order to avoid such damage, according to researchers and
meteorologists, there is caution towards reducing the effects of greenhouse gas (GHG)
emissions by 45% before 2030 and keep reaching net-zero emissions in 2075.
