Sports of India:

Sports in India refers to the large variety of games played in India, ranging from tribal
games to more mainstream sports such kabaddi, cricket, badminton and football,
wrestling, Hockey . Kabaddi is an ancient sport and the fastest growing sport of India.
Domestic professional sports leagues in the country include the Indian Premier
League (Twenty20 cricket), the I-League and the Indian Super League (football),
the Pro Kabaddi League (kabaddi), the Hockey India League (hockey), Premier
Badminton League (badminton), the Pro Wrestling League (wrestling),

Achievements:
Badminton:
 Silver in 2016 Rio Olympics: Former World No.2 PV Sindhu is the first Indian
badminton player to reach a final in the Olympics. She won a silver in the 2016
Olympic Games held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

 National awards: Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna in 2016 PV Sindhu’s performance


in the BWF World Championships has been commendable throughout her
career. Apart from winning the gold in 2019, She is only second to Zhang Ning
of China for winning five or more medals at the World Championships.

 They have won gold medals in all the Asian Games to date except the 2018
Asian Games, and they have won all the three Kabaddi World Cup events.

2017 defeating Pakistan in the final by 36-22.

 India won World Cup in 1983.

 India won Hero Cup in 1993.
 India won Benson and Hedges Cup in 1985.
 India won the Border Gavaskar Trophy in 2001.
 India won the Coca-Cola Cup Sharjah in 1998.
 India won NatWest Trophy in 2002.

Hockey:
Indian Hockey team won a total of 8 Olympic gold medals between 1928-1980, five
of which were won after India's independence - 1948, 1952, 1956, 1964, and 1980
Olympics.

Wrestling:
 Geeta is the first freestyle wrestler in India’s history to win a gold medal in
wrestling at the Commonwealth Games. This happened in New Delhi in 2010.
