Title: Business application of mathematics (Calculus)

Abstract:
Abstract

Business Mathematics consists of Mathematical concepts related to business. Business

application of Mathematics models is focused on mathematical application in business
analysis.

Introduction:
Introduction

Mathematics is an important part of managing a business. It also helps us in taking business

decisions in business operations. A Businessman has to take a thousand decisions for the
business. Mathematics is highly helpful for decision-making. Business mathematics has
numerous concepts like statistics, linear programs, matrix, calculus, etc that are used in
business mathematics.

Applications of Mathematics Tools in Business Decision

Importance of Business Mathematics in the management system Mathematics typically

used in commerce includes elementary arithmetic, elementary algebra, statis, tics, and
probability. Business Mathematics in management systems can be made more effective in
some cases by the use of more advanced mathematics such as fraction, decimal, matrix
algebra, and linear programming, Calculus. Some most important topics covered in Business
Mathematics are algebra, fractions, linear equations, and many more.
Algebra:-. The use of algebra in business goes beyond statistics and financial forecasts.
Algebra may help develop one skill to run a business and it also makes it easier to identify
patterns in customer behavior, develop a savings plan, and more. Calculate the profits or
losses incurred and decide whether a piece of equipment does not lose its worth if it is in
stock a business owner uses algebraic operation.
Linear equation:- Linear equations use in businesses to find cost, profit, revenue, loss, and
breakeven points. The breakeven points in linear equations are where the equations
intersect. cost is the amount you pay for an item, profit is the amount of money made after
the breakeven point.
Matrix: Matrix can help to make complex decisions in business operations. Matrix Cramer’s
and determinants are useful tools in business involving profit maximization and loss
minimization.

Calculus and application

Calculus is the study of rate change which focuses on differentiation, integration limits,
function, and so on. In business, calculus can be used to calculate maximizing profits,
minimizing cost and maximum, and minimizing production. Calculus also can be used to
calculate the rate of change in cost or marginal revenue.
Calculus has two types: 1. Differentiation and 2.Integration
Differentiation calculus: Differentiation calculus is the study of the definitions, properties,
and application of the derivative of a function. The process of finding the derivative is called
differentiation. Differentiation in calculus can be applied to measure the function per unit
change in the independent value.

Differentiation of function as limit

Given a function f(x), if x approaching 3 causes the function to take values arbitrarily close to
saying 12 then we call 12 limits of the function and write
lim f(x)= 12
x-3 [Limit of f(x) as x approaches 3 is 10]

Differentiation function formula

Let y = f(x) be a function of x. Then, the rate of change of “y” per unit change in “x” is given
by: dy / dx
If the function f(x) undergoes an infinitesimal change of ‘h’ near any point ‘x’, then the
derivative of the function is defined as
Lim f(x+h)-f(x)
h→0 h

Differentiation Formulas List

If this limit exists, then we can say that the function f(x) is differentiable at x
In the given example, we derive the derivatives of the basic elementary functions using the
formal definition of a derivative. Let us assume that y = f(x) is a differentiable function at the
point x. Then the derivative of the function will be:

Lim f(x+h)-f(x)
h→0 h
Business calculus is necessary when calculating optimum production quantities which will
result in the greatest profit. It is also used to calculate the profit on additional items made
(marginal profit). Another use is in determining ideal packaging and shipment sizes. There
are many other uses. Differential calculus is concerned with the average rate of change. The
techniques of differentiation of a function deal with the rate at which the dependent
variable changes concerning the independent variable.

A management company is going to build a new apartment complex. They know that if the
complex contains x apartments the maintenance costs for the building, landscaping, etc. will
be,

1.C(X)=4000+14x−0.04x^2
The land they have purchased can hold a complex of at most 500 apartments. How many
apartments should the complex have to minimize the maintenance costs?
Ans: Here is the derivative of the maintenance function and the critical point(s) since we’ll
need those for this problem.
C′(x)=14−0.08x
If The land they have purchased can hold a complex of at most 500 apartments then
C′(x)=14−0.08x
=-26

2. The production costs, in dollars, per week of producing X widgets, are given by,
C(x)=4000−32x+0.08x2+.00006x3and the demand function for the widgets is given by,
p(x)=250+0.02x−0.001x2
What are the marginal cost, marginal revenue, and marginal profit when x=200 and
x=400? What do these numbers tell you about the cost, revenue, and profit?
Ans:-

Integral
Integral function
function
An integral is a function, of which a given function is the derivative. Integration is used to
find the areas of the two-dimensional region and compute volumes of three-dimensional
objects. Integration helps us to find out the total cost function and total revenue function
from the marginal cost.. Cost and revenue functions are calculated through indefinite
integral.

Conclusion

From the analysis, we can say that mathematics application of calculus can be applied to
business operation and it helps us a lot to do business accurately and easily
