Reflection essay 2
Writing a visual text analysis has taught me many new things. I never really had studied
the why behind art, like movie posters. The realization that every detail poses an insight into the
movie or is put on there for a purpose was surreal. I now realize that every detail serves a
purpose and can use this knowledge as I move forward in my studies and writing. When I
eventually get into my degree pathway, veterinary medicine, I can utilize this visual text analysis
The drafting and revision process for this essay allowed me to not feel overwhelmed
while writing. I was able to breakdown into several pieces and utilize the buildup in finishing my
essay with ease. I must say this has been my biggest takeaway in this course. I have always
enjoyed writing but do sometimes fall into the slump of not knowing where to head with my
ideas or what is being asked of me. I truly feel that I will utilize the concepts that I have learned
through brainstorming, drafting, and revising forever. It has made the process so much more
streamlined and enjoyable. It allowed me to breakdown and thoroughly investigate what I was
writing about.
Upon visiting with my instructor, I quickly learned that I had repeated myself. She
brought it to my attention and gave me ideas on how to correct it. I ended up combining my first

and last paragraph and added another element at the beginning. This made my workflow more
smoothly and overall produce a better paper. My instructor also gave me feedback about the
order that my elements were presented. My third and first paragraph from my original draft were
Peer review has been a huge help in improving my visual text analysis. I feel that my peer
partner has really helped me find the little things that I missed, such as grammar mistakes. While
these seem superficial compared to the big things, I appreciate the fact that we can catch these
things prior to submitting for a final grade. I also liked being able to read others text analysis and
see how they structured their paper and adjust mine when necessary. One of my classmates and I
swapped papers to critique and he told me I had several subject-verb agreement errors. These
were an easy fix but something I would have missed if not for my peers.
The editing and proofreading process of my visual text analysis along with my instructor
feedback helped me find the missing connections between ideas and allowed me time to correct
it. When writing my first draft my first and last paragraph matched in idea. I did not realize it
until the proofreading process. I was discussing the characters and positioning in my first
paragraph and also doing it in the third in a different form. By the time the final draft was due, I
combined the two paragraphs and my work flowed much more smoothly.
The most challenging part of the essay was the beginning. When I first saw that my paper
needed to be on a piece of art I could not wrap my head around what was being asked. How
could I possibly know what the artist was trying to tell the viewer? However, as I pushed through
the writing process, it became clearer. I spoke to my instructor as well as our high school art
teacher. The art teacher was able to help clarify some concepts regarding color usage and fonts. I
had never realized the importance of things like this. It all seemed so insignificant until I had to

analyze it. When writing in the future I will utilize people around me. What I may not understand
someone else can help with. Before taking this course, my writing was different. I had never had
to write papers of this magnitude. Moving forward in my college and future career I know that
more and more will be expected of me. Knowing where to find resources will benefit me forever.
The internet has resources available at our fingertips but sometimes relying on an expert in the
field is best.
The least challenging part of this essay was the time frame given to write the essay. While
there were several components to this essay, the method in which pieces were expected of us
made it so much easier to complete. I did not feel overwhelmed in turning in my final draft
because I was confident, I had done my part in submitting a quality essay due to the pieces that
the instructor required. This helped with time management and overall purpose.
