WHAT DRUMATIX IS
Drumatix is a drum machine. It's also an arpeggiator, all rolled
into one simple to use package. The idea of Drumatix is that it is
easy to learn how to create patterns without needing to know
much about drum machine software. Drumatix is also one of the
few Mac drum machines out there which don't cost the earth or
come with ghastly MIDI sounds. Yuck! Here comes Halcyon
Freeware saves the day; we've got plenty of samples that we know
you want. You want the TR-808, the 909, the 707, the 606 - popular
but expensive choices. Drumatix has all three of these machines,
as well as sliced bits of the Amen break (think 1996 drum and
bass) and a LinnDrum sample set.
HOW TO PROGRAM IT
You can use your mouse to individually select the beats, which is
a little bit dull. The exciting and fast way is with your keyboard.
So, here's a simple tutorial:
Basics
1 to 8 - Programming buttons 1 to 8
Q to I - Programming buttons 9 to 16
(Enter or return) - Run/Stop
Instruments
Z - Bass drum
X - Snare
C - Low Tom
V - High Tom
B - Cymbal
N - Open Hat
M - Closed Hat
(,) - Rimshot
(.) - Clap
(/) - Cowbell
Patches
K - TR 606 patch
L - TR 909 patch
; (semi-colon) - TR 808 patch
' (quotation mark) - LinnDrum patch
\ (backslash) - Amen break patch
Pattern stuff
(backspace) - Clear sequence
Keypad buttons 1 to 9 - Pattern select 1 to 9
Keypad (+) - Bank number up
Keypad (-) - Bank number down
(shift) and (pattern number) - Save/overwrite (pattern number)
Okay, choose the bass sound you want. You can have a nice
bassy sound, that famous 'rave piano' sound or a harsh bleeping
sound. Personally, I like the bleep.
Now let's make a simple line.
Using the left and right keys move between each step. Now click a
note which you want played in playback.
Say, for example, I want this bassline:
You'd just move along the line and enter the notes in on the on
screen keyboard or entering them in via the drop down menus.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
If you want to clear a saved pattern, first press Backspace. Then hold down
shift and the number of the pattern to be erased.
I must remind you to use erasing wisely! All data will be erased from the memory space
and you will not be able to get it back!
There are some situations where Drumatix will simply 'break down' -
that is no audio coming out of it. You should first check that your
headphones aren't plugged in, your volume isn't muted and the Sound
settings in OS X aren't wrong. If everything's okay, try reinstalling
Drumatix. If this still fails, you might need to check all your
disks/repair them with Disk Utility. Quicktime updates may also stop it
from working - we aren't saying it will, it's a possibility.
Drag the empty 'Pattern Files' folder from the 2.5 folder, and drag
in your old 2.1 'Pattern Files'. You will be able to use your older
patterns.
SONG PACKS
Song packs are pre-made basslines and drum patterns, based off
other songs.
With 2.5, we include;
% 808 State - Cübik
% Godzilla - Monster Island
% Nine Inch Nails - Closer (which works quite well)
% Aphex Twin - Delphium
% A simple example pattern
If you would like to share your songs with us, or want them featured in
the next release, please send an email with the appropriate data to

Cheers!
