Assignment 2 Chemical Equilibrium
Assignment 2 Chemical Equilibrium
2. For the following reaction, write how each of the changes will affect the indicated quantity,
assuming a container of fixed size. For the shift, write either “left”, “right”, or “none”. For a
change in concentration, write how it would respond AFTER the change (choices are
“increase”, “decrease”, or “no change”.)
3. For the following examples, write the equilibrium constant expressions and determine K for
the reaction given the equilibrium concentrations.
a. N2 (g) + H2 (g) ⇌ NH3 (g)
[NH3] = 0.0100 M, [N2] = 0.0200 M, [H2] = 0.0200 M
b. KClO3 (s) ⇌ KCl (s) + O2 (g)
[O2] = 0.0500 M, [KCl] = 0.00250 M, [KClO3] = 2.00 M
c. CO (g) + O2 (g) ⇌ CO2 (g)
[CO] = 2.0 M, [O2] = 1.5 M, [CO2] = 3.0 M
d. H2O (l) ⇌ H+ (aq) OH- (aq)
[H+] = 1x10-8 M, [OH-] = 1x10-6 M, [H2O] = 1x10-14 M
4. 0.200 mol of H2, 0.200 mol of I2 and 0.200 mol of HI were placed in a 1.00 L flask and
allowed to come to equilibrium. The value of Kc at this temperature is 49.5. Determine the
equilibrium concentrations of all the species. (Ans: [H2] = [I2] = 0.05 M, [HI] = 0.30 M)
H2 (g) + I2 (g) ↔ HI (g)
5. Calculate the equilibrium concentrations of all species in the following equation if 3.000
moles of H2 and 6.000 moles of F2 are placed in a 3.000 L container.
H2 (g) + F2 (g) ↔ HF (g) Kc = 1.15 x 102
-2
(Ans: [H2] = 3.2 x 10 M; [F2] = 1.032 M; [HF] = 1.936 M)
6. A mixture of 3.31 moles of A, 4.33 moles of B, and 5.95 moles of C is placed in a 1-L
container at a certain temperature. The reaction was then allowed to reach equilibrium. At
equilibrium, the number of moles of B is 6.16. Calculate the equilibrium constant Kc for the
reaction. (Ans: 4.5 x 103)
A ↔ 3B + 2C
