This document provides a summary of someone's reaction to watching a movie about Pompe disease. The person was initially unaware of Pompe disease and had to research it. They learned that it is a rare, inherited metabolic disorder caused by a deficiency in an enzyme called acid alpha-glucosidase. It damages muscles and nerves throughout the body. The person was moved by the happy ending of the movie where both children were cured of Pompe disease, and believes the director intended to inspire real families affected by the disease. They were surprised to learn Pompe disease can also affect adults, not just children.

To be honest, this was my first time watching these movies.
At first, I am shocked that
there is a disease that can kill someone before the age of 10. From the past until I watched this movie, I believe that there is a disease that can kill a baby immediately. Therefore, I don’t believe that there is a disease that can wait until a human to reach certain number of age to be reacted and kill the body. When I first heard about the name of the disease, I get confused because I never heard that kind of disease even in the biology class in high school. After I heard about the name of the disease, I searched on safari immediately to check about what kind of disease is it and how can the disease spread and even it is highly contagious. It is so complicated to describe what disease is it, based on Wikipedia Glycogen storage disease type II, also called Pompe disease, is an autosomal recessive metabolic disorder which damages muscle and nerve cells throughout the body. It is caused by an accumulation of glycogen in the lysosome due to deficiency of the lysosomal acid alpha-glucosidase enzyme. It is the only glycogen storage disease with a defect in lysosomal metabolism, and the first glycogen storage disease to be identified, in 1932 by the Dutch pathologist J. C. Pompe. (wikipedia, 無 日 期 ). Therefore, I conclude that the disease named because of the name of the inventor. In my opinion, this disease is a rare disease with low percentage of people that can be infected, so not to offend anyone caught by this disease is very unlucky. This disease has the same concept as color blindness or the other x chromosome genetic disease. This disease can be carried by the x chromosome and can be transferred to both male and female with any races in the world. There are 3 kind of people related to this disease, first the unaffected people with both unaffected x chromosome for woman and both unaffected x chromosome and y chromosome for man. The second type is the carrier people, the carrier people is unaffected by this disease but they carry the disease. In other word, the people that called the carrier of this disease is healthy without any symptom but they can transfer their carrier genetics to their children or grandchildren. The third type is the affected one, the affected one for man and woman are different. For man because man is created by one x chromosome and one y chromosome therefore, just one affected x chromosome can affect man with this disease. In other words, man can’t be a carrier of this disease because the y chromosome can’t beat the affected x chromosome. For woman they need two affected x chromosome to be a affected people therefore, the ratio for man to be affected with genetic disease are higher than woman because woman can be a carrier too. To be more specified about this disease, this disease maybe seems like color blindness but there is a little difference. Pompe disease is a n autosomal recessive inheritance pattern. This means the defective gene is located on an autosome, and two faulty copies of the gene one from each parent are required to be born with the disorder. As with all cases of autosomal recessive inheritance, children have a 1 in 4 chance of inheriting the disorder when both parents carry the defective gene, and although both parents carry one copy of the defective gene, they are usually not affected by the disorder. Therefore, the recessive genes of this disease are the cause of this disease, unlike the other disease that led by the dominant genes, pompe disease need recessive genes to appear and finally the people are affected by the disease. The other example of disease that caused by the autosomal recessive disorders is the sickle cell anemia that are more familiar because I think most of high school student had studied about it. My favorite scene of the entire movie was obviously the ending scene of the movie. The smile and joyful of both the parent after seeing their kids are fully recovered from the pompe disease are priceless. At first, when I watched the movie from the beginning until the middle of the movie, I thought that both the children won’t be cured or maybe just one of them that can be cured to make the ending become sadder. However, the ending was a happy ending and I am a little bit shocked because of the happy ending that the director directed. In my opinion, the director makes the ending to become a happy ending is because of certain reasons. The main reason that I can conclude is maybe the director would like to inspire the people in the reality that have a child or maybe children that are caught and affected by the pompe disease to cheer them up. By plotting the end for both the children to be cured will likely make the people in the reality with the similar cases to be inspired and hopefully can endure the pain and believe that they can fight it. Therefore, I think that the director has a virtue goal besides to earn money by producing such inspiring film, the director also hopes many people around the world can be inspired and cheered up about any situation there are being through. Before I am doing some research about this disease, I thought that this disease is meant to attack or might be killing people that are categorized as child maybe below 12 years old. Therefore, I thought that this disease won’t attack adult because the people only can survive until certain age along the child categorization. However, it was completely nonsense because, pompe disease can also affect adult above thirty years old and even above fifty years old. If people were caught affected by this disease, they will have several symptoms and end up with muscles weakening and trouble breathing that are hard to be endured. As I mentioned before, Pompe disease is a rare (estimated at 1 in every 40,000 births), inherited and often fatal disorder that disables the heart and skeletal muscles. It is caused by mutations in a gene that makes an enzyme called acid alpha-glucosidase (GAA). (ninds, 無 日 期 ). Therefore, there are no one to blame if your child is affected by this pompe disease because, it is a mutation in a gene. To be honest, I am shocked as this film was made based on true story. The determination of a father to save the life of his children were real and happened in reality. I am salute and put high respect to the father. Although I know every parent will do the same to save their loved children but, in the film, I am touched by how his determination and passion by willing to do anything to save his children. Moreover, finally in the ending scene his passion paid off and he can happily watch his children to laugh and smile without pain again. To conclude, this movie is expected to show us and teach us the moral value and biological aspect about a rare disease. This movie successfully shows us the love of a parent for their children and to pay attention more/ awareness about this rare disease because, maybe your relative can be affected by this disease or similar mutated gene disease. Overall, I am satisfied by this movie even if this movie has bad visualization because it was created in 2009.
