UNIT 6: ANGLES
PRIMARY 6
REVIEW: ANGLES AND TRIANGLES
1: Angles on a straight line add up to 180°.
2: Angles at a point add up to 360°.
3: Vertically opposite angles are always equal.
4: Angles in a triangle add up to 180°.
5: Right triangles have one right angle.
6: Isosceles triangles have two equal angles.
7: Equilateral triangles have three 60° angles.
SQUARES
A square has
• 4 equal sides
• 4 right angles
• 2 pairs of parallel lines
RECTANGLES

A rectangle has
opposite sides that are equal
• 4 right angles
• 2 pairs of parallel lines
PARALLELOGRAM
In Figure JKLM, JK // ML and JM // KL.

J K JKLM is a parallelogram.
It is a quadrilateral in which
the opposite sides are
parallel and equal.
M L
RHOMBUS
In Figure EFGH, EF // HG, EH // FG and
EF = FG = GH = HE.
E EFGH is a rhombus.
It is a quadrilateral in which
H F the opposite sides are parallel
and all sides are equal.
G
Opposite angles of a parallelogram or a
rhombus are always EQUAL.

Each pair of angles between two parallel

sides of a parallelogram adds up to 180°.
TRAPEZIUM

In Figure PQRS, PS // QR.

P Q PQRS is a trapezium.
It is a quadrilateral in which
only one pair of opposite sides
is parallel.

FINDING UNKNOWN ANGLES IN GEOMETRIC FIGURES
BCD is an isosceles triangle. CB = CD. ABC is a straight line.
Find ∠CBD and ∠CDB.
C We use angle on a straight
line property to find ∠CBD.

B D Given that Triangle BCD

124° is an isosceles triangle,
A ∠CBD = 180° – 124° ∠CBD = ∠CDB.
= 56°
∠CDB = ∠CBD
= 56°
FINDING UNKNOWN ANGLES IN GEOMETRIC FIGURES
CDEG is a trapezium. CDEF is a parallelogram. AB = AGF.
Find ∠DEF and ∠FGC.
∠BFA = ∠ABF
B
= 58°
58° C D
∠FGC = 180° – 58° – 58°
58° = 64°
∠FCD = 180° – 64° – 58°
A G F E
= 58°
∠DEF = ∠FCD
= 58°
Telling Time
minute hand
We use min to stand
hour hand
for minutes.

We use s to stand for

seconds.

Telling Time
Conversion
hours and minutes
1 h = 60 min
1 minute = 60 seconds
2 h = 120 min
3 h = 180 min
4 h = 240 min Time can also be
5 h = 300 min
6 h = 360 min expressed as a decimal
7 h = 420 min
8 h = 480 min and converted in mixed
9 h = 540 min
units.
10 h = 600 min
Conversion
Justin painted for 3 hours and Lingling watched a movie for
15 minutes. 117 minutes.
How many minutes did he How many hours and
paint for? minutes did she spend
watching the movie?
1 h = 60 min
1 h = 60 min
3 h = 180 min
117 min = 60 min + 57 min
180 min + 15 min = 195 min
1 h 57 min
