editionandfinish4thon themedaltally.Withincreasingexcellenceineveryfield,ithas now
becomeevidentthatIndiansports willnotbeleftbehindthis.

(3) Theconfidencewithwhichour athletesfacedthecompetition,evenintheaceof occasional


irregularofficiating,showcases amindsetwheretheyaimnotjusttocompetebuttowin. The spirit
displayedby JyotiYarrajiinthe100mhurdles,thedeterminationof Parun Choudharyinthe
5000mrun, andthededicationof AvinashSableinthe300 msteeplechaseareevidenceof an
unwaveringpassion thatpersisteduntiltheveryend!

(4) ThisPerformanceattheAsian gamesishistoricfor severalreasons. Weachievedour highest


medalcountsinathletics,shooting,archery,squash androwing. Wesecuredmedalsinevents such
as women’sshotputafter72 years,men’sdecathlonafter49 years.
