This module was designed and made so that the


pupils consider and give emphasis in reading words with
initial and final consonant blends.

After going through this module you are expected to


read words with initial and final consonant blends. It will
help the students to pick apart and piece together blends.
It is expected to show understanding the meaning of words
with initial and final consonant blends through drawing,
actions and using them in a sentence.

Lesson Reading words with
initial and final
3 consonant blends

When you have a series of consonant together, that


seem to do their own thing, we refer to this as a blend
(consonant blend).These blends can be used to form
endless words. If a blend is at the front of the word, we refer
to it as “initial”. If the blend is at the end of the word, we
call it “final”.

Let us recall some tenses of verb you have learned before.


A. Direction: Write on the blank if the word is in past, present
or in future tense.

What is It

Consonant blends are consonant letter clusters. These


are a collection of two or three consonants in a word that
make a distinguishing consonant sound when a word is
pronounced.
Examples: dr in draw nd in hand
cl in clap nt in hand
Initial consonant blend is located in front of the word
Examples: plow grade strap
play frog glad
trip pray swim clay
Final consonant blend is located at the end of the word
Examples: bank desk salt gift wolf
past bird tank pink sink
