"Toronto is in the 'Dish With One Spoon Territory’. The Dish With One Spoon is a
treaty between the Anishinaabe, Mississauga and Haudenosaunee that bound them
to share the territory and protect the land. Subsequent Indigenous Nations and
peoples, Europeans and all newcomers have been invited into this treaty in the
spirit of peace, friendship and respect.” (TMU Indigenous Educational Council)
In this class, “we value diverse voices and condemn all forms of discrimination,
including sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, and racism. We are
committed to the work of confronting and dismantling systems that enable systemic
racism, oppression and violence against Black people, Indigenous people and
people of colour in all facets of our society.” (Docnow)
Why?
“(…) We all share responsibility to learn and confront both the historical truth of residential
schools and the deep colonial legacy that pervades systems of education and knowledge
production more widely.” (Taking up the TRC Calls to Action in our Teaching)
We are all treaty people!

§ Academic integrity is integral to your learning, the credibility of your degree or
certification, and the integrity of the university as a whole. Senate Policy 60: Academic
Integrity defines academic misconduct, provides a non-exhaustive list of examples of
behaviours that may be considered as academic misconduct, and explains how academic
misconduct concerns are evaluated and decided. The entirety of the policy applies in this
course. As well, please note that the unauthorized use of artificial intelligence to
complete coursework, in whole or in part, will be considered a violation of Policy 60.

Unsure of How to Best Protect Your Academic Integrity, or Whether Something is Academic
Misconduct?
● Contact the Academic Integrity Office for Information and Guidance
• TMU Readiness Quiz: A survey emailed to incoming first-year students inviting them to self-assess
on factors related to student success (e.g. their academic habits, social interaction, financial health,
persistence & grit). Respondents receive proactive outreach from a Student Success Navigator and
referrals to campus programs and services based on their self-identified needs and concerns.
• How you can help: Prompt first-year students to look for the TMU Readiness Quiz in their TMU email and
complete it by September 11.
• Navigate TMU Program: a free 6-module series aimed at incoming or transfer students to prepare
them for university and connect to other students and staff at TMU. Topics include navigating
university, learning, wellbeing and community. The Fall session runs from September 13 to November
8. Registration is open until Sept 15.
• How you can help: invite students to register for the Navigate TMU Program. It will set them up for
success in their first year and beyond!
• Resource navigation: Similar to Navigator models seen in healthcare settings, the Student Success
Navigators listen, validate and support students, connecting them to the campus resources they need
to meet their goals. They offer personalized referrals to central and faculty programming, services,
and co-curricular opportunities to help students make the most of their university experience.
• How we can help you: Refer your students to Annabelle De Jesus (annabelle.dejesus@torontomu.ca),
Navigator aligned with FCS, for general questions about what programs and services exist on campus.
