Exercise 11:
Dalat is a city located on Lang Biang highlands – part of the Central Highlands region of
Vietnam. Because of its history, special architecture, unique climate features and wide range of
beautiful spots, Dalat is known as one of the most popular tourist destinations of Vietnam. Dalat
looks like a cross between Vietnam and the French Alps. Many of its hotels and houses were
built in a French style during the French colonization. There are many places for tourists
interested in architecture to visit, such as Dalat Railway Station, designed by French architects
Moncet and Reveron, or Hang Nga guest house, a.k.a ‘Crazy house’ which is also an interesting
place to stay.
Writing portfolio: Choose one of the places mentioned in Unit 1 of the Student's Book.
Write about the positives and the negatives.
For example: The pros and cons of living in JAPAN
 Pros:
 Safe
You can walk at night while wearing expensive jewelry on the street without getting robbed.
 Good transport system
Transport is not just a transport but a serious form of service by the company who provides it.
 Food and Water
Tap water is drinkable and is even advertised that it is clean and safe. Food - well, quality is
really high with the price you paid. No tipping.
 High Quality Service
In Japan, the customer is considered as “god” and they treat them with utmost respect and
politeness.

 Cons:
 Language barrier
Japanese is not an easy language to learn. It requires time and hard work and cultural
immersion. Many words and phrases in Japanese doesn’t have direct Western translation.
 Inflexible work culture
Japanese traditional working culture is strict, requires tons of manner and bureaucracy and
people-dealing related skill, in additional to your actual work.
