Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics Grade 6

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson the pupils will be able to:
a. Define the Speed, Distance and Time
b. Appreciate the importance of the speed, distance and time through giving example
of experience,
c. Compute the speed, distance and time of the given problem.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Speed, Distance and Time
Reference: 21st Century MATHletes by Perez, et al. p. 253-259
Materials: Internet, Laptop
Strategy: Adaptive Learning and Student- Centered Learning

III. Procedure
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Preparatory Activity
1. Drill
Now class, this morning lets do
the action song entitled
“Walking, Walking”. All you
have to do is to follow the steps,
understand class? Yes teacher.
(Video Presentation)
2. Review
Yesterday, what was we tackled
all about? About Elapsed time teacher.
And what is elapsed time? Elapsed time is the amount of time that
passes from the start of an event to its
finish teacher.
Very good! Okay I have a
question if you really understand
our discussion yesterday.
If Kitty sleep from 1:30 pm and
she woke up 4:30 pm. How long
dis she sleep? 3 hours teacher.
Very good.
B. Developmental Activity
1. Motivation
This time we will have an
individual game entitled
“Baamboozle”.
This will be the mechanics for
the Game:
1. I will select a player.
2. The player will choose a
number from 1-12.
3. Answer the question inside
the number.
4. The player who got the
answer will receive 10pts
that will be added in the
quiz. Yes Teacher.
Understand class?
Figure 1: 46
Figure 2: D= S x T
Figure 3: 300 seconds
Figure 4: 11 Seconds
Figure 5: 1,000
Figure 6: 240 minutes
Figure 7: 15m/s
Figure 8: 660 seconds

2.

Presentation
Based on the game that we have
played a while ago, what do you
think will be our topic for this
morning?
Yes very good, our topic for this
morning is all about the Speed, Distance
and Time. Speed, Distance and Time Teacher.

3. Setting of standard
Before we start our discussion
what will you do if the teacher is
talking or the teacher is
presenting a video?

4. Discussion Listen carefully teacher.

This time I have here a video And participate in the Activity.
presentation about the definition,
the formula and examples on
how to find the speed, distance
and time. Just listen carefully
and take note of the important
details. Understand?
(Video Presentation)

5. Comparison and Abstraction Yes teacher.

How do you find the Speed?

How about the distance?

By using the formula teacher.
How did you find the time? Speed= distance / time
By using the formula which is,
Lastly, why is it important to Distance= speed x time
know on how to get the speed, By using the formula,
distance and time? Time= distance / Speed

So that when we are travelling teacher

like riding motorcycle or even running
6. Generalization we will know if how far and how fast
What is speed? had we travelled.

Speed is fast or slow moving. It refers

What is Distance? to how fast an object is moving.

And What id time? Distance is the amount of space

between two objects or the state of
If the given is distance and being far apart.
speed, then what we are looking Time is the happening hour, minutes
for? and seconds.
If the given is speed and time,
what we are looking for? Time teacher.
Lastly, if the given is distance
and time, what are we looking Distance teacher.
for?
Very good children. Speed teacher.

7. Application
In this individual activity, I will
give three problems and all you
have to do is to solve it in just 3
minutes. And after that instead
of calling a name to answer the
problem, I have a spin wheel
here with your names I will spin
it three times and once the arrow
pointed at your name you’re the
one will answer the problem.
Understand class?
Yes teacher.
Calculate the distance.
1. 2hours at 30km/h
Calculate the time. 60 kilometers
1. 180kilometers at 45 km/h
Calculate the speed. 4 hours
1. A car travels 200 kilometers
in 8 hours. Calculate the
speed in kilometers per hour?
25 kilometers per hour.
Spin the wheel…..

IV. Evaluation
Direction: Solve the problem in 1 whole sheet of paper.
1. Mhar took s 5hour bicycle trip. In all, he travelled 120 kilometers. What was his
average rate of speed?
2. Rolly travles from Lucena City to Manila every Saturday to visit his mother. The
trip takes 3.5 hours and he usually travel at an average rate of 64km/h. how many
kilometers does rolly travel from Lucena City to Manila?
3. Wilfredo can write 200 words in 5 minutes. Calculate his writing speed in:
a. Words per minute:
b. Words per hour:
V. Assignment
Direction: Solve the problem.
1. Alfred drives for 1 ½ hours at 75 km/h, then drives 120 kilometers at 60 km/h and
finally drives for 30 minutes at 65 km/h. Calculate his average speed for the whole
journey?
