(S.B.A)

Student Name:Allan Wright

School: St.Elizabeth technical high school
Class: 11 Pool A
Plan Of Investigation

My group members and I come together and choose the theme Drugs and
Alcohol but I specifically decide to research on the topic “The growth of
doping in sports and its impact.”It has come to my realisation because of
many ways athlete cheat to enhance their performance at the respective
competition.By following the ways to prevent doping in sports,it can help
to change the world and help athlete to be fair.As a student of English
Language,I expect to improve my grammar, reading comprehension and
writing skills by arranging this school based assessment.I intend to
research and collect information for my SBA from the internet.I aim to use
an article entitled “Anti-doping and a level playing field” an poem
Reflection 1
Doping in sport shaped my thoughts in a number of ways. The ethics and
fairness, health and safety , responsibility and accountability.

The newspaper article titled “Anti-doping and a Level playing field”

published by Jamaica Gleaner on June 12, 2022 at 12:11AM stated that in
recent years, a number of Jamaican athletes have found themselves facing
disciplinary hearings with the possibility of sanctions against them.
Athletes who get caught for doping will face consequences such as
disqualification, ineligibility,provisional suspension and financial
consequences. The process in Jamaica to handle allegations of anti-doping
violations has implemented the guidelines as set out in the World Anti-
Doping Code. This implementation helps ensure that the reputation of
sports in Jamaica is maintained. Additionally, any aggrieved party can
seek to have their case heard and has a right to fair hearing in front of an
impartial panel and has the right to legal representation.

The second artifact is a poem done by James A. Tweedie, in this

poem he uses Ecclesiastes 7 verses 5 to explain how he felt about doping
in sport and its impact on society. The writer also describes athletes who
use drug to win as “Evil”.The use of performance-enhancing drugs goes
against the principle of playing fair.Despite the implementation of drugs
testing and anti-doping regulations, some athlete continue to use drugs
behind close doors to gain unfair advantage against competitors.

The third artifact is a video on Youtube channel U.S Anti-Doping

Agency titled “Effects of Performance Enhancing Drugs:Blood
Doping”.USADA explains the effects of blood doping and substances like
EPO.In the animated video they explain what that EPO increase the
number of red blood cells in the body and also make the blood thicker
which makes it difficult for the heart to pump. The result is a higher risk for
heart disease.I have learned a lot about the negative side effects of doping
on the body, you can develop a heightened awareness of the risk
associated with high performance enhancing drugs.
Reflection 2

The tone of the article is factual and critical information. It is register

in formal english and give statistical data. The structure also give history of
Anti-doping doping in sports
Reflection 3

Throughout this SBA, I have gained new knowledge about this

topic.I have learned that doping in sports is the use of banned drugs to
improve athlete performance. As an athlete myself I feel more powerful
because I am more knowledgeable of doping in sports,

This SBA helped me grow in several ways by expanding my

understanding, Developing critical thinking to analyze information and
form my own opinion or conclusions. It also helped by enhancing my
research skills, by conducting research helped me develop skills in
gathering relevant information, Improving my communication skills and
encouraging self-motivation and discipline, this includes setting my goals,
managing my time and staying focused.I cultivated valuable skills that can
be applied to various aspects of life.

I thought working as a group to complete this SBA would be

challenging because of the strength and weaknesses of each students, but I
realize that collaborating with my peers to complete this SBA was a great
experience. I have come to appreciate the value of listening and
respectfully sharing my ideas and understandings that of others.
