Svamitva Yojana
• The pilot phase of ‘Svamitva Yojana’ was launched on 24 April 2020 for implementation from
2020-21. This scheme was launched at the national level on April 24, 2021.
• The ownership scheme is being implemented with the cooperation of the Ministry of Panchayati
Raj, State Revenue Department, State Panchayati Raj Department and Survey of India.
• By July 26, 2023, drone flying work had been completed under the SVAMITVA scheme in
2,70,924 villages of the country.
• It is the responsibility of the concerned State Government to prepare and distribute property
cards on the basis of maps prepared under the Swamitva Scheme by the Survey of India.
• By July 26, 2023, property cards had been prepared in 89,749 villages.

PM JI-VAN Scheme
• The government had notified the “Pradhan Mantri JI-VAN (Biofuel-Environment Friendly Crop
Residue Prevention) Scheme” in March, 2019.
• The scheme is to provide financial assistance to integrated bio-ethanol projects for setting up
second generation ethanol projects in the country.
• These projects are to use lignocellulosic biomass and other renewable feedstock. The total
financial outlay of the scheme is Rs 1969.50 crore for the period 2018-19 to 2023-24.
• Under this scheme, maximum financial assistance has been fixed at Rs 150 crore per project for
commercial projects and Rs 15 crore per project for demonstration projects.
• Under the scheme, public and private sector oil marketing companies (OMCs) will be eligible
for six commercial second generation (2G) bio-ethanol projects in Punjab, Haryana, Odisha,
Assam and Karnataka and one demonstration 2G ethanol project each in Haryana and Andhra.

Rajasthan approves formation and demarcation of 19 new districts and three divisions
• The Rajasthan Cabinet has approved the formation and demarcation of 19 new districts and three
divisions. Notification of these districts will be issued soon.
• There are currently 33 districts in the state. These also include Jaipur and Jodhpur districts,
which have now been divided into rural and urban districts. Now the number of districts in the
state will increase to 50.
• The proposal to create new divisions of Pali, Banswara and Sikar has also been approved. With
this there will now be 10 divisions in the state.
Western Tragopan
• The state bird of Himachal Pradesh, the 'Western Tragopan', has suffered habitat loss, but
conservation efforts have seen the Sarahan Pheasantry population gradually increase.
PM YASASVI Scheme
• 'Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment' 'PM Young Achievers Scholarship Award Scheme
for students belonging to Other Backward Class (OBC), SC, Denotified, Nomadic and Semi-
Nomadic Tribe (DNT) and Economically Backward Caste (EBC) categories is implementing a
comprehensive scheme called 'Vibrant India' (PM YASASVI).
Key components of the scheme include –
• Pre-Matric Scholarship for OBC, EBC and DNT students.
• Post-Matric Scholarship for OBC, EBC and DNT students.
• Top class schooling for OBC, EBC and DNT students.
• Top class college education for OBC, EBC and DNT students.
• Construction of a hostel for OBC boys and girls.
Iberian Wolf
• According to a recently published report of data for the year 2020 through the Action Program
for the Conservation of the 'Iberian Wolves' run by the Government of Andalusia (Spain), there
is no evidence of the presence of Iberian wolves in Andalusia (a Spanish autonomous region).
• The Iberian wolf (Canis lupus signatus) is a species of gray wolf originally found in the Iberian
Peninsula of Spain and Portugal. As of 2020, this species is extinct in the historical region of
Andalusia, Spain.
• The gray wolf Canis lupus is listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

State with most billionaire MLAs
• The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) recently conducted a comprehensive analysis of
the assets of MLAs from various political parties in India.
• The report highlights the average wealth of MLAs, the percentage of billionaire MLAs and the
representation of women in state legislatures.
• 'Karnataka' has emerged as the state with the highest average wealth per MLA and the most
number of billionaire MLAs, while 'Uttar Pradesh' lags behind in both the categories.
• According to the ADR report, the average wealth of an MLA in India is Rs 13.63 crore.
• Among the states analyzed, 'Karnataka' tops the list with 223 MLAs whose average assets are Rs
64.39 crore.
Silk Roadster
• China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has been a major driver of the country's efforts to
cooperate with Southeast and South Asian countries, including Nepal.
• As part of the 10th anniversary celebrations of BRI, China has launched several new projects
under the platform called 'Silk Roadster'.
• China's BRI, also known as One Belt, One Road (OBOR) initiative, is an ambitious global
infrastructure development and investment strategy.
• Launched in 2013 by Chinese President Xi Jinping, the initiative aims to connect Asia with Europe
and Africa through a network of infrastructure projects including roads, railways, ports and
other facilities.
The Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Scheduled Tribes Order (Amendment) Bill, 2023
• The Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Scheduled Tribes Order (Amendment) Bill, 2023, was
introduced in the Lok Sabha on July 26, aimed at including four communities in the Scheduled
Tribe (ST) list in Jammu and Kashmir.
• The bill has a provision to include four communities in the ST list – Gadda Brahmins, Koli,
Paddari tribe and Pahari ethnic group.

• In Jammu and Kashmir, ‘Gujjar’ and ‘Bakarwal’ are the major ST communities. With a combined
population of about 18 lakh, they are the third largest group in the region after Kashmiris and
Dogras.

Redevelopment of 508 railway stations
• In a historic step, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for
redevelopment of 508 railway stations across the country through video conferencing.
• These 508 stations, redeveloped at a cost of more than Rs 24,470 crore, are spread across 27
states and union territories.
• These include 55 in Uttar Pradesh, 55 in Rajasthan, 49 in Bihar, 44 in Maharashtra, 37 in West
Bengal, 34 in Madhya Pradesh, 32 in Assam, 25 in Odisha, 22 in Punjab, 21 in Gujarat, 21 in
Telangana, 21 in Jharkhand. These include 20 stations, 18 in Andhra Pradesh, 18 in Tamil Nadu,
15 in Haryana and 13 in Karnataka.

Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill 2023
• ‘Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill-2023’ has been passed in
the Parliament. This bill has a provision for amendment in the 'Government of National Capital
Territory of Delhi Act 1991'.
• It empowers the Central Government to make rules with respect to the affairs of the Government
of National Capital Territory of Delhi, including the functions, rules and other conditions of
service of officers.
• There is also a provision for the formation of 'National Capital Civil Services Authority'. This
authority will include the Chief Minister of Delhi, Chief Secretary of Delhi and Principal Home
Secretary of Delhi.
• The authority will make recommendations to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi regarding
matters of transfer and appointments of officers and disciplinary actions.
Paleo proxy
• Recently it was announced that a particular day in July 2023 was the hottest day in over 100,000
years, which is scientifically unfounded. This claim was based on temperature estimates from
before the invention of the thermometer, which rely on 'Palaeo proxies' and cannot provide daily
time-scale temperatures.
• Paleoproxies, short for paleoclimate proxies or paleoenvironmental proxies, are indicators or
records used by scientists to reconstruct past climate and environmental conditions.
• These proxies are typically derived from physical, biological, or chemical processes that respond
to changes in temperature or other climate factors.
• Since direct measurements of climate in the distant past are not possible, scientists rely on these
proxy records to understand past climate variations and long-term trends.

‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ campaign
• A 21-day nationwide 'Meri Maati Mera Desh Campaign' was launched in honor of the heroes who
sacrificed their lives for the country.
• In this campaign, memorial plaques for headstones dedicated to freedom fighters and security
forces will be installed.
• Under the campaign, an 'Amrit Kalash Yatra' will also be taken out, in which soil will be brought
from every corner of the country in seven thousand five hundred pots to build 'Amrit Vatika' in
Delhi.

Operating System ‘Maya’
• In the ongoing war against cyber attacks, India's Defense Ministry has prepared an indigenous
operating system 'Maya'. Through this, the government aims to keep computers safe from cyber
attacks.
• Soon this indigenously developed operating system named ‘Maya OS’ will be installed in all the
computers of the Defense Ministry. This work is to be done by the end of this year.
• In such a situation, the new OS will replace 'Microsoft's Windows' and will soon be adopted by
the armed forces.
• Notably, a team of experts from various government agencies, including the Defense Research
and Development Organisation, Advanced Computing Development Center and National
Informatics Centre, developed Maya OS on the open-source Ubuntu platform in six months.
Havana syndrome
• To investigate 'Havana Syndrome' in India, a person from Bengaluru had filed a petition in
'Karnataka High Court' demanding an inquiry to prevent it in the country.
• Havana syndrome is a group of diseases that include dizziness, nausea, or blindness in one eye.
• Cases of this disease have been seen many times before in India and in 130 countries including
Tajikistan, Washington DC, Colombia and Austria.
• The first case of this disease was reported in the year 2016 from Havana, the capital of the
Caribbean.

Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority (IEPFA)
• Taking a step forward towards financial literacy, Ms. Anita Shah Akella, CEO of Investor
Education and Protection Fund Authority (IEPFA) welcomed two investor vans named 'Niveshak
Sarathi' from the headquarters of IEPFA as part of 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Celebrations'.
• The theme of this program is – “From Ignorance to Financial Freedom.”
• This strategic initiative aims to spread financial education and raise awareness against fraudulent
schemes in the Delhi NCR region.
• ‘IEPFA’ works under the administrative control of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

Mega Oil Palm Plantation Campaign
• Under the National Mission on Edible Oils-Oil Palm, State Governments launched ‘Mega Oil
Palm Plantation Campaign’ in collaboration with oil palm processing companies.
• Launched on July 25, 2023, the objective of this campaign includes further promoting oil palm
cultivation, making the country and farmers 'self-reliant' in the production of edible oils.
• This campaign will help in achieving the target of increasing 6.5 lakh hectares of additional area
under oil palm production by 2025-26.
• Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Goa, Karnataka, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha,
Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Tripura are its major oil producing states.

Indian Naval Ship Y - 3024 (Vindhyagiri)
• Hon'ble President Smt. Draupadi Murmu will launch Project 17A Frigate Ship 'Vindhyagiri' at
Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited, Kolkata on 17 August 23.
• Vindhyagiri, named after the mountain range in Karnataka, is the sixth ship of the Project 17A
frigate.
• The warships, modeled after the Project 17 class frigates (Shivalik class), are equipped with
improved stealth characteristics, advanced weapons and sensors and platform management
systems.

Gallantry award
• President Draupadi Murmu has approved the conferment of '76 Gallantry Awards' to the
personnel of the Armed Forces and Central Armed Police Forces on the eve of Independence
Day.
• There are four Kirti Chakras, all of which will be given after death. 11 Shaurya Chakras, out of
which 5 will be given posthumously.
• Apart from this, there are 52 Army Medals for gallantry, 3 Navy Medals for gallantry and 4 Air
Force Medals for gallantry.

Katchatheevu Island
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi had mentioned 'Kachchativu Island' in his speech in Parliament
during the discussion on the no-confidence motion on August 10.
• Mr Modi said it was the Indira Gandhi government that gave Katchatheevu to Sri Lanka in 1974.
• ‘Kachchativu’ is an uninhabited offshore island in the Palk Strait. The island is located between
Nedunatheevu, Sri Lanka and Rameshwaram, India. It was formed due to a volcanic eruption in
the 14th century.

• 14 States and Union Territories have not yet signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)

World's first 3D rocket
• The rocket ‘Agnibaan’ suborbital technological demonstrator of Chennai-based private space
company ‘Agnikula Cosmos’ is ready for launch in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. Its launch will
take place from Satish Dhawan Space Centre.
• If this rocket successfully reaches the Earth's Lower Earth Orbit, Agnikul will become the second
private rocket sending company in the country. Before this, Skyroot Aerospace had sent its
rocket.

32nd Manipuri Language Day
• Various organizations celebrated the 32nd 'Manipuri Language Day' in Manipur on 20th August.
• In the year 1992, on 20th August, Manipuri language was included in the 'Eighth Schedule' of
the Constitution of India.
• The Eighth Schedule of the Constitution includes 22 languages – Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati,
Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Odia, Punjabi,
Sanskrit, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, Bodo, Santhali, Maithili and Dogri.
• Out of these languages, 14 languages were included in the beginning of the Constitution itself.
In the year 1967, Sindhi language was included in the Eighth Schedule by the 21st Constitutional
Amendment Act.
• Konkani, Manipuri and Nepali were included by the 71st Amendment Act in the year 1992.
• In the year 2003, by the 92nd Constitutional Amendment Act which came into effect from the
year 2004, Bodo, Dogri, Maithili and Santhali were included in the Eighth Schedule.

International Organization for Migration (IOM)
• The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has reported that 79% of Afghans do not
have adequate access to clean water for essential needs, a situation made worse by the worst
drought in 30 years, economic instability and decades of conflict. Has been.
• It was established in the year 1951 with its headquarters located in Geneva, Switzerland.
• It is the leading intergovernmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with
governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners.

2016.

India becomes the first country in the world to land a lander on the south pole of the Moon
• India successfully landed its Chandrayaan-3 mission on the lunar surface on August 23, 2023,
making it the fourth country to do so after the United States, Russia, and China.
• Chandrayaan-3's lander 'Vikram' successfully landed on the South Pole of the Moon. With this,
India has become the first country to reach the south pole of the Moon.
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated the Indian Space Research Organization for
this success.
• From Johannesburg, South Africa, on the occasion of the BRICS Summit, he congratulated
Indian scientists for the immense success.
• In the coming days, the rover 'Pragyan' is expected to exit the lander and begin exploring the
lunar surface.
Stockholm Syndrome
• Stockholm syndrome is a 'psychological phenomenon' that occurs when victims of hostage or
abuse develop positive feelings toward their captors or abusers and negative feelings toward
authorities or anyone who helps them escape.
• The term was coined after a 'bank robbery' in Stockholm, Sweden in the year 1973, when four
hostages refused to testify against their captors and even tried to defend themselves.
• Stockholm syndrome is not a recognized mental disorder, but rather a coping mechanism that
some people use to deal with a traumatic situation.

Expansion of the five-member group of ‘BRICS’
• The decision to expand the five-member BRICS grouping has been taken during the three-day
'BRICS Summit'. At present Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa are its members.
• Announcing the results of the 15th BRICS Summit', South African President 'Cyril Ramaphosa'
said that in the summit, Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab
Emirates (six new countries) will become full members of BRICS which will be effective from
January 1, 2024.
Project WorldCoin
• Recently a project called ‘WorldCoin’ has been launched by artificial intelligence (AI) company
‘OpenAI’. The project claims to create the world's largest identity and financial public network.
• ‘WorldCoin’ is an initiative to create a digital network in which everyone can claim some kind of
stake and participate in the digital economy.

College of Military Engineering (CME)
• The College of Military Engineering (CME) in Pune, Maharashtra has recently achieved a
remarkable feat as India's first carbon-negative garrison through the implementation of a 5-MW
solar power plant, bringing its total solar power generation capacity to 7 MW.
• Established in 1948 as a premier institute for the armed forces, CME trains personnel from the
Indian Army, Navy, Air Force and foreign counterparts.

National Space day
• The Prime Minister announced that ‘23rd August’ will be celebrated as ‘National Space Day’. On
this day, ISRO's 'Chandrayaan 3 Mission' created history by landing near the south pole of the
Moon.
• He said that the place where 'Vikram' lander and rover 'Pragyan' landed on the lunar surface will
be named 'Shiv Shakti' point.
• The place where Chandrayaan-2's 'lander' crashed will be known as 'Tiranga Point'.

Exercise Bright Star-23
• A contingent of the Indian Air Force departed to participate in the biennial multilateral tri-
service exercise ‘Bright Star-23’ to be held from 27 August to 16 September 2023 at Cairo (West)
Air Base, Egypt.
• The Indian Air Force is participating for the first time in this event which will also see
participation from air force contingents from the United States, Saudi Arabia, Greece and Qatar.
• The Indian Air Force contingent will include five MiG-29, two IL-78, two C-130 and two C-17
aircraft.

Nataraja statue
• A 28 feet bronze statue of Nataraja, considered the world's tallest, will be installed at the venue
of the 'G20 Summit' to be held in New Delhi.
• Weighing 19 tonnes, the Nataraja idol is made of eight metals, including gold, silver, lead,
copper, tin, mercury, iron and zinc (Ashtadhatu). It is being brought from 'Swamimalai' city of
Tamil Nadu.
• The idol depicts Nataraja (Lord Shiva) dancing. ‘Swamimalai’ is considered to be one of the six
sacred abodes of Lord Murugan, known as the Padai Veedugal (war camp) of Lord Murugan.
• The city is also famous for its Swamimalai Bronze Logo which has been granted Geographical
Indication/GI tag.
• The statue is made using the "lost-wax" casting technique of the Chola tradition, in which molten
bronze is poured into a clay mold.
Echolocation
• Recently, engineers have used echolocation to develop a smartphone app that can be very helpful
for visually impaired people.
"Self-respect" marriage
• Recently the Supreme Court has declared that not all marriages require a public declaration or
ceremony. The Court also approved a Tamil Nadu law that allows "self-respect" marriages.
• Section 7-A of the Hindu Marriage Act, implemented in Tamil Nadu through an amendment of
1967 in the state, provides legal recognition to self-respect or reformed marriages among Hindus.
• The main objective of the Self-Respect Movement started by E.V. Ramaswamy Naikar (Periyar)
in 1925 was to conduct marriages without Brahmin priests.

• 'Jayant Mahapatra', one of India's most famous English poets, passed away at the age of 95.
• He was born on 22 October 1928 in Cuttack, Odisha, India.

6th National Nutrition Month
• The Ministry of Women and Child Development is celebrating ‘6th National Nutrition Month’
throughout September 2023.
• This year, it aims to comprehensively tackle malnutrition through a life-cycle approach, based
on Mission Nutrition 2.0.
Fujiwara effect
• Hurricanes 'Idalia' and 'Franklin' moving near the southeastern US coast have raised concerns
about their possible interaction under the 'Fujiwara effect'.
• This phenomenon occurs when two cyclones come close to each other and engage in a rapid
“rotational dance”.
• Although these storms are not expected to collide, their close proximity has led to speculation
about five possibilities for the Fujiwara effect, including absorption, merger, or even the
formation of a supercyclone.
• The Fujiwhara effect can lead to unexpected intensification, altered trajectories, and increased
rainfall, as has been seen in previous interactions between cyclones.
