1 OVERVIEW

Full attention should be paid on use of this system by understanding of limitations in

performance or characteristics of this system and by familiarizing with operation method.

This system displays the "course and rudder angle" of a ship on LCD and records it to the
CF card.
Although this system is designed for considered the safety operation, it does not cover all
the trouble situations.
The following cautions should be observed.
1. Always perform daily check to maintain normal system condition.
2. When abnormities are detected in the result of daily check, investigate and repair at
once to recover to normal conditions and request advice of our service engineer.

When accessing a CF card, a round mark beside the disk icon on the status bar changes to
red or a progress bar is displayed. Do not extract the CF card or turn off the power in the
meantime to avoid damaging the data in the CF card.

1-1 Overview
This system displays ship’s heading and rudder angle* on the LCD display and records them into a CF
card simultaneously. Ship's heading and rudder angle are obtained from a heading sensor and an
autopilot* or rudder angle transmitter. By connecting a GNSS to this system, time information (UTC) can
be acquired and recorded. Information of the order rudder angle and set heading can be obtained from an
autopilot* if connected, and course over the ground can be obtained from a GNSS and the information is
displayed on the LCD display. Since ship’s heading and course over the ground, and order rudder angle
and actual rudder angle can be perceived at once it contributes to the easy comprehension of oblique
sailing/leeway.
A touch panel type LCD is employed to the system and it enables handwriting input like writing on a
recording paper, so necessary information can be freely input by handwriting.
Data management can be easily done by copying the recorded data to a PC after sailing or appropriately
recordings(Log) .
This information helps diversified sailing as an effective recording method along with the conventional
recordings(Log) .

*Connection to an autopilot is available with the type DCR-100/150.

I 1-1
1-2 Record Management
All the data acquired by the system is recorded to a CF card.
A 4GB CF card is equipped with this system as a standard and data of about 40 days can be recorded.*
Copy the data into a PC and maintain it before the CF card overflows. On initial setting condition,
recording stops when the CF card is full with data.

For transferring the recorded data, a PC reads the data in a CF card directly or USB memory is available
to store the data alternatively (See"6 Record to a USB memory" for how to use)

*Recordable period may be varied depending on functional seting conditions such as pen input, time
stamp and screenshot features.

■For a CF card
・When accessing a CF card, a round mark beside the disk icon on the status bar
changes to red or a progress bar is kept displayed. Do not extract the CF card or turn
Note
off the power in the meantime to avoid damaging the data in the CF.
・Manufacturer of thes system is not responsible for any trouble or failure caused by a
CF card itself including loss or data damage.

■Cautions for using the touch panel

 Do not rub or push the touch panel by a sharp edged tool or a pointed object.
 Avoid storing and using the system in the environment with water, organic solvent or acid, or in the
condition of touching them.
 Avoid using the system in a place with direct sunlight.
 Wipe the panel lightly with a soft cloth infiltrated with neutral detergent or alcohol. It may be a
possibility of discoloration, deformation and damage. When chemicals, etc. adheres to the touch
panel accidentally, wipe it off immediately in the state where there is no influence in a human body.
 The dew condensation generated inside the touch panel is not unusual since it is a natural
phenomenon. When the temperature of the touch panel reaches the room temperature, the dew
condensation will disappear naturally, but avoid using the touch panel with the dew condensation
since it causes failure.
 Do not impact or push the touch panel with a strong force. It may cause damage.

7 MAINTENANCE

● Electronic circuits in Main units of the system which consists of electronic circuits have
high reliability. However it could have any failure or error when in some unexpected
conditions.
Checks and maintenance described in this chapter should be certainly carried out to
eliminate any risk of failure as much as possible and to maintain the system
performance.
● Contact a TOKYO KEIKI service station or representative when a trouble appears and it
is not cannot be repaired on board.

PROHIBITION
Do not use a megger, etc., for insulation test of the system. Using a megger can break
internal electric parts. Always disconnect wirings connected to the system before testing
related power distribution lines with a megger.

7-1 Overview
This system consists of carefully selected parts based on safety design. However, periodic check
(operation check) and maintenance described in the following section must be performed to keep a
good performance for long term.
Main purpose of the maintenance and check of the system are aiming to catch signs of equipment
failure at an early stage through continuous suitable maintenance and check. By repairing on call at
port based on results of these checks, occurrence of unexpected situation and troubles in sailing will be
prevented to a minimum.
For maintenance and check of the connected equipment to this system such as the heading sensor
system, etc., refer to the separate individual Operator's Manuals.
Please record in the log book, etc. content of these checks and maintenance that were performed.

Procedures of the maintenance and check only for this system are explained in this chapter. General
precautions are as follows.

(1) Assign a person in charge of maintenance and check for this system and perform those under his
responsibility.
(2) Mechanical parts in connecting and fixing sections of this system such as case and panel may be
loosened due to body shock and resonance vibration. Check and re-tighten the related screws at
need.
(3) Most parts used in the main sections of this system are electronic (electric) parts. Occurrence of
electronic parts troubles themselves is very seldom, and troubles in mounting sections of electronic
(electric) parts being about to disconnect wires at roots or lead wires of electric parts, occur easily
due to hull body shock or resonance vibration. Accordingly these points are checked.
Re-fix these parts, re-tighten the fixing screws, reinsert the connectors, re-fix the mounting parts,
repair the cables and lead wires at need.
(4) If strange motions, smells, sounds and heat generation etc. different from those in normal
operation exist, record those in the log book and request our service station to repair at earlier
stages.

I 7-1
(5) Has this system check by our service engineer or qualified engineer at least once a year, and make
them evaluate the checked items of the table and log book, etc. At the same time, pick up and
repair the troubled points at need.

7-2 Periodic Check

It is necessary to check the recording conditions daily.
(1) Make sure that CF card is inserted and there is enough free space.
(2) Make sure that recording is done during power ON. (Is an arrow of the disc icon moving?)
(3) Make sure that there is no abnormality on the system.
(4) Make sure that the time is correct.

7-3 Approximate lifespan of parts

8-4 Battery voltage reduction

If the power failure occurs at following situation, you may lose the data that have not been saved
to the CF card. To avoid this event, perform "Writing from internal memory to the external
memory"(See "5-7 Memory management"). Please contact us as soon as possible to replace the
battery. If data is lost, we can not warrant the data in any case.

8-4-1 Detecting voltage reduction

Alarm message “Battery low” is displayed when power is ON and every one hour.
Battery lifetime is expected approximately tens to hundred hours after the warning message “Battery low”
appears.

8-4-2 Dead battery

Alarm message “Battery error” is displayed when power is ON and every hour.
At this state, phenomenon as follow occurs.

I 8-5
 Phenomenon that occurs when the power supply is cut off at the state of battery voltage reduction
and dead battery
 Data loss before writing to CF card.
*Data saved in the CF card will not to be lost.

 Contents of alarm history display and time stamp record list display disappear.
*Only indications of the displays disappear so the data saved in the CF card will not be lost.

 Possibility of internal clock goes wrong.

The internal clock may go wrong when power is OFF for a long period of time under the state of dead
battery.

 Setting may be initialized when changing the settings during the warning message of voltage reduction
is displayed.

 If the power supply cut out occurs a few second after the setting change, setting may be initialized.
*If not changing the settings, it is saved in the internal memory therefore the settings will not be erased.
We recommend saving the settings that have frequent use to the CF card.
*If the settings are initialized, warning message "Do the initial setting." is displayed.
