Background of the Study
INTRODUCTION
The COVID-19 is a highly infectious disease of illness caused by the severe acute respiratory
syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) that originated in Wuhan, China, and has already reached
pandemic proportions, affecting all continents resulting in millions of deaths. COVID-19 referred to
as a pandemic due to its severity and ferocity, as well as the greatest global health crisis in human
history. The emergence of the novel coronavirus devastated everything from global economies to
social rituals.
COVID-19 had a significant impact in almost all areas of activity in 2020, but it was especially strong
in teaching and learning. The pandemic has shifted the higher education landscape. worldwide, with
higher education institutions` responses to the pandemic generally falling into three categories:
maintaining in-case teaching with social distancing, developing hybrid models (blended learning,
limiting student on campus), or shifting to online instruction.
The COVID -19 pandemic has had a signification impact on the educational system at all levels, from
elementary to higher education. To prevent the spread of the deadly virus, students, parents, teacher,
and school administrators must adjust to the rapid shift in learning mode. Implementing and utilizing
distance learning is one of the most effective ways to prevent the virus from spreading and to continue
education despite the global crisis.
Almost everyone students, parents, teachers, and school officials ,has encountered difficulties in
developing countries where distance learning has not yet been fully mastered and explored .With the
coronavirus outbreak, educational system all over the world were impacted and hampered, resulting in
the near -complete suspension on of all in-person activities in school, colleges, and universities, To
reduce the spread of the virus, government officials prohibited physical gatherings in educational
institutions.
As a result, educational institutions have aggressively shifted to alternative learning methods and
strategies, such as online-based platforms, in order to ostensibly avoid educational disruption.
Students had no choice but to engage in online learning during periods of lockdowns.
The quick transition to online learning had the potential to significantly affect the student learning
experience. Universities had to switch from face to face to emergency remote education during the
COVID-19 pandemic.
Students were required to study online, with limited access to facilities and less contact with peers and
teachers, while also being exposed to greater autonomy.
Presently, after missing out on face-to face classes and making new friends for more than a year due
to the pandemic, schools will resume face-to-face classes after two years of implementing distance
learning due to the pandemic students can finally enjoy the benefits of going to school. After nearly
20 months of “blended” learning, students in areas identified as low risk for the coronavirus have
begun to return to limited face-to-face classes across the country. Consider how happy many of these
people have become.
Not all schools will resume physical classroom instruction; some will continue to use remote
instruction in the interim. Some schools will be present in person for five days. Some schools will be
hybrid. But don’t forget that blended learning includes in-person classes three days a week. Then
there’s full-fledged distance learning. So, we don’t expect all our schools to go in-person right away,
but we do expect that most of our public schools will go in-person on Monday.
After more than two years of distance learning, nearly half of the country’s schools resumed in-person
classes. After COVID, the Philippines was one of the last countries to return to face-to-face learning.
However, some experts believe that the prolonged suspension of in-person lessons has exacerbated the
education crisis.
But due to the connection that schools could become new virus hotspot. Some schools will have to
split classes into shifts due to classroom shortages and to avoid overcrowding, according to the
Department of Education. The prolonged school closures have been attributed to fears of the virus
spreading quickly in country where school children are commonly housed with parents and elderly
grandparents. Online classes, printed materials, and lessons broadcast on television and social media
have largely replaced personal classes.
Having different blended learning modalities including face-to-face now is aims to helping student
more effectively understand to the topic that taught be educator to students. Face-to-face learning
teaches students how to work in a team environment and prepares them for their first day on the job
with other employees.
Students do not only learn from the theory presented by the teacher in the classroom. They gain
knowledge from the questions and experiences of other students.
Therefore, in this case as research, we’re interested in holding the topic of academic adjustment of
grade 12 HUMSS B, in the study we will know the adjustment of Grade 12 HUMSS B students at
Fatima National High School from online to limited face to face classes.
