Objectives of Physical Education and Health

• a learning process that focuses on knowledge, attitudes and behaviors that are
imperative for students to embrace a lifestyle of health and fitness.
• an education in the care and development of the human body, stressing athletics
and including hygiene.
• a formal instruction in exercise and proper eating.
• Instruction in physical exercise and in the care and hygiene of the human body.
• an element of an education curriculum concerned with the bodily development,
strength, physical coordination and agility.
• “education through the physical”

Aims

• to develop students’ physical competence and knowledge of movement and


safety and their ability to use these to perform in a wide range of activities
associated with the development of an active and healthy lifestyle.
• develops students’ confidence and generic skills, especially those of
collaboration communication, creativity, critical thinking and aesthetic
appreciation.

Objectives of Physical Education

1. Physical Development
a) proper growth and development
b) proper functioning of various systems of the body
c) development of skills through better neuromuscular coordination
d) development of strength and endurance

2. Psychological Development
a) development of healthy interests and attitudes
b) satisfaction and channeling of emotions
c) removing worry, tension, etc. through participation in sports

3. Social Development
a) developing qualities of sympathy and cooperation with others
b) becoming a worthy member of home and society

4. Moral Development
a) development of self-control
b) development of sportsmanship
Health Education

- it is social science that draws from the biological, environmental,


psychological, physical and medical science to promote health, prevent
diseases, disability and premature death through education -driven voluntary
behavior change activities.

According to WHO

- health education like general education concerned with changes in


knowledge, feelings and behavior of people
- it concentrates on usual forms

Aims

• to provide information about health and its value as community asset


• to render assistance to the school going children an understanding of the
nature and purpose of health services and facilities.
• to maintain norms of good health
• to develop and promote mental health and emotional health
• to take precautionary and preventive measures communicable diseases.
• To develop a sense of civic responsibility.

Objectives of Health Education

1. To enable the students to develop a scientific point of view of health with reference
to traditional and modern concept of health.
2. To enable the students to identify health problems and understand their own role on
health and to medical agencies in meeting those problems.
3. To enable the student to take interest in current events related to health.
4. To enable the students to arrive at suitable conclusions based on
scientific knowledge and take action as an individual member of the family and
community for protecting maintaining and promoting individual and community health.
5. To enable the students to set an example of desirable health behavior.
6. To enable the student to understand the causes of the pollution of air water, soil and
food as well as their ways and means of prevention.
7. To enable the students to gain sufficient knowledge of first aid.
8. To provide desirable knowledge about marriage sex and family planning to the
students.
9. To help students to understand the importance of Physical training sports, games,
yogic exercises as well as their relationship with health education programmed.
10. The emphasize students on the bad effects of smoking and taking alcohol etc.
11. The acquaint students with the functioning of various organizations working for the
maintenance of health.
12. To help students understand how the present day rapid development of science and
technology as increased the hazards of life and health problems and also how to face
and prevent them.
Scope and Sequence of Physical Education and Health for Grade 1-6

The curriculum sets out what students are expected to learn and is designed as a
continuum of learning. The curriculum is being presented in a scope and sequence chart
to support teachers to easily see the progression and assist in planning
teaching and learning programs to meet the diverse needs of students. PHYSICAL
EDUCATION Learner demonstrates understanding of body awareness etc…

Content of Physical Education as subject

1. Body management – which includes body awareness, space awareness,


qualities and relationships of movements and how these are used dynamically in various
physical activities.
2. Movement skills – related to the fundamental movement patterns and motor
skills that form the basis of all physical activities.
3. Games and sports - consisting of simple, lead-up and indigenous games; as well as
individual, dual and team sports in competitive and recreational settings.
4. Rhythms and dances – includes rhythmical movement patterns; the promotion
and appreciation of Philippine folk dance, indigenous and traditional dances as
well as other dance forms.
5. Physical fitness – includes assessment through fitness tests and records interpreting,
planning and implementing appropriate programs that support fitness and health goals.

1. Growth and development – Physical growth is an increase in size. Development is
growth in function and capability. Both processes highly depend on genetic,
nutritional, and environmental factors.
2. Personal health - is the ability to take charge of your health by making conscious
decisions to be healthy. It not only refers to the physical wellbeing of an individual but
it also comprises the wellness of emotional, intellect, social, economic, spiritual
and other areas of life.
3. Nutrition – is about eating a healthy and balanced diet. Food and drink provide the
energy and nutrients you need to be healthy. Understanding these nutrition terms may
make it easier for you to make better food choices.
4. Substance use and abuse - a pattern of harmful use of any substance for mood-
altering purposes. "Substances" can include alcohol and other drugs(illegal or not) as well
as some substances that are not drugs at all.
5. Family Health – is providing knowledge, attitudes and skills needed to enable young
parents also to acquire the knowledge attitudes and skills needed to practice
better self-care as well as better care of their newborns and infants.
6. Disease prevention and control - is a procedure through which individuals,
particularly those with risk factors for a disease, are treated in order to prevent a disease
from occurring. Treatment normally begins either before signs and symptoms of the
disease occur, or shortly thereafter.
7. Injury prevention and safety - is a component of safety and public health,
and its goal is to improve the health of the population by preventing injuries and hence
improving quality of life. Among laypersons, the term "accidental injury" is often
used. However, "accidental" implies the causes of injuries are random in nature.
8.Consumer health - are people who use health services, as well as their family and
careers. This includes people who have used a health service in the past or who could
potentially use the service in the future.
9. Community and environmental health – Community health is a branch of public
health which focuses on people and their role as determinants of their own and other
people's health in contrast to environmental health, which focuses on the physical
environment and its impact on people's health.
