and the respective distances of different objects from these mirrors.

Mirror u (cm) f (cm)

A 45 20
B 30 15
C 20 30

Answer the following questions:

(i) In the given position of object from the mirrors, which mirror will form a
diminished image of the object. Draw a ray diagram for image formation by this
mirror

(ii) Which mirror can be conveniently used as a make-up mirror? Draw a ray
diagram to illustrate this function.

2 An object is kept at a distance of 18cm, 20cm, 22cm and 30cm respectively from
a lens of power +5D.
i. In which case or cases would you get a magnified image?
ii. Which of the magnified image can we get on a screen?
3 The size of image of an object by a mirror having a focal length of 20cm is
observed to be reduced to one third of its size. At what distance the object has
been placed from the mirror? What is the nature of the image and the mirror.

4 i. Differentiate between a glass slab and a glass prism. What happens when
a narrow beam of white light passes through the glass slab and the glass
prism?

ii. A glass prism is able to produce a spectrum when white light passes
through it, but a glass slab does not produce any spectrum. Explain why it
is so?

5 i. What is meant by scattering of light?

ii. Which of the two is scattered more easily – light of shorter wavelengths
or light of longer wavelengths? Give reason.
iii. State the factors on which the colour of scattered light depends
6 The V-I graph for a conductor at two different temperatures T1 and T2 are as
shown. At which of the two temperatures the resistance of the conductor is
higher? Justify your answer.

7 Find the equivalent resistance across the two ends A and B of the given circuit.

8 Consider the following electric circuit.

(i) Which two resistors are connected in series?

(ii) Which two resistors are connected in parallel?
(iii) If every resistor of the circuit is of 2Ω, what current will flow in
the circuit?

9 An electric iron of 1kW is operated at 220V. Find which of the following fuses
that respectively rated at 1A, 3A and 5A can be used in it?

10 (i) An electron does not suffer any deflection while passing through
a region of uniform magnetic field. What is the direction of
magnetic field?

ii) A charged particle enters at right angles into a uniform magnetic

field as shown. What should be the nature of charge on the
particle if it begins to move in a direction pointing vertically out
of the page due to its interactions with the magnetic field.

SECTION B CHEMISTRY

1. On heating blue coloured powder of copper (ll) nitrate in a boiling test tube
copper oxide, oxygen and a brown gas X is formed.
a) Write a balanced chemical equation of the reaction.
b) Identify the brown gas X evolved. What could be the pH range of aqueous
solution of the gas X?
c) Identify the type of reaction.

2. Explain why an aqueous solution of sodium sulphate is neutral while an aqueous

solution of sodium carbonate is basic in nature.

3. An ore on treatment with dil. HCl produces brisk effervescence. What type of ore
is this? What step will be required to obtain metal from the enriched ore?

4. A sulphate salt of an element is a white soft substance which can be moulded into
different shapes by making its dough. When this compound is left open for some
time it becomes a solid mass and cannot be used for moulding purposes. Identify
the salt and why does it show such a behavior. Give the reaction involved.

5. Identify the compounds A to E in the following reaction sequence.

KMnO4/KOH
CH3CH2OH A
Con.H2SO4
CH3CH2OH + A B + H2O
B + NaOH C + CH3CH2OH

A + NaHCO3 C + D +H2O

CH3CH2OH + E CH3CH2ONa + H2

6. How are alloys prepared? How the properties of alloys change when iron is
mixed with
a) A small quantity of carbon
b) Nickel and chromium
7. Give reason
a) Metal sulphides occur mainly in rocks but metal halides occur mostly in sea
and lake waters
b) Generally metals are not found in free state

8. Identify the substance oxidized , reduced, the oxidizing agent and reducing agent
SO2 + 2 H2S → 2 H2O + 2 S

9. On opening the soda water bottle, the dissolved carbon dioxide comes out .Would
the pH of the solution increase or decrease as the gas comes out? Explain your
answer.

10. A, B,C are three elements which undergo chemical reactions according to the
following equations.
A2O3 + 2B → B2O3 + 2 A
2 CSO4 + 2 B → B2(SO4)3 + 3 C
3C O + 2A → A2O3 + 3C
Answer the following questions with reasons
a) Which element is the most reactive
b) Which element is the least reactive
c) What is the type of reactions listed above

situation or running away. State the immediate changes that take place in its body
so that the squirrel is able to either fight or run.
