CMO BASIS
The Bachelor of Arts in Communication (BA Comm.) program utilized the CHED Memorandum
Order (CMO) No. 35, series of 2017 Policies, Standards, and Guidelines, and the General Education CMO
No. 20, series 2013.
INTRODUCTION
Bachelor of Arts in Communication (BACOMM) as a field the program covers how humans
communicate. It focuses on how verbal and non-verbal messages create meanings using diverse media
platforms in different contexts. It includes a broad range of subject matter ranging from the study of
communication in interpersonal relationships, groups, organizations, and cultures.

Program Goals
This program aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills in the theory and practice of
communication applicable in various professions and contexts, focusing on the media professions.
Program Outcomes
The minimum standards for the BA in Communication program are expressed in the following
minimum set of learning outcomes:
1. Define access information needs; assess and organize information and knowledge, produce,
share and utilize information and knowledge;
2. Communicate in different formats and platforms(print, broadcast, and online);
3. Prepare a communication/media plan;
4. Conduct communication and media research and evaluation;
5. Develop and produce communication materials in different formats and platforms;
6. Demonstrate communication management and leadership skills;
7. Develop entrepreneurial capabilities;
8. Adhere to ethical standards and practices;
9. Know and practice rights and responsibilities and accountabilities in the communication
profession;
10. Demonstrate a development orientation in communication work; and
11. Apply communication theories/models, principles, practices, and tools in developing work.
CURRICULUM
Curriculum Description

how verbal and non-verbal messages create meanings using diverse media platforms in different contexts.
It includes a broad range of subject matter ranging from the study of communication in interpersonal
relationships, groups, organizations, and cultures.
The BS Development Communication has a total of 134 units, of which 42 units are General
Education Courses, 24 units are Core Courses, 18 units are Required Courses, 36 units are Electives, 9
units are Thesis and Internship, 8 units are Physical Education and 6 units are National Service Training
Program (NSTP).

COURSE DESCRIPTION
GE CORE COURSES
This interdisciplinary course engages students to confront the realities brought about by science and
technology in society. Such realities pervade the personal, the public, and the global aspects of our living
and are integral to human development. Scientific knowledge and technological development happen in the
context of a society with all its socio-political, cultural, economic, and philosophical underpinnings at play.
This course seeks to instill reflective knowledge in the students that they can live the good life and display
ethical decision-making in the face of scientific and technological advancement. This course includes
mandatory topics on climate change and environmental awareness.
GC1209 - ETHICS
Ethics deals with principles of ethical behavior in modern society at the level of the person, society, and
interaction with the environment and other shared resources (CMO 20 s. 2013).
Morality pertains to the standards of right and wrong that an individual originally picks up from the
community. The course discusses the context and principles of ethical behavior in modern society at the
level of the individual, society, and in interaction with the environment and other shared resources. The
course also teaches students to make moral decisions using dominant moral frameworks and applying a
seven-step moral reasoning model to analyze and solve moral dilemmas. The course is organized
according to the three (3) main elements of the moral experience: (a) agent, including context – cultural,
communal, and environmental; (b) the act, and (c) reason or framework (for the act).

Ang SOSLIT ay isang kurso sa pag-aaral at paglikha ng panitikang Filipino na nakatuon sa kabuluhang
panlipunan ng mga teksto ng literari at iba’t ibang bahagi ng kasaysayan ng bansang Pilipinas. Sinasaklaw
nito ang mga isyung panlipunan na tinatalakay ng mga akdang Filipino tulad ng kahirapan, malawak na
agwat ng mayayaman at mahihirap, reporma sa lupa, globalisasyon, pagsasamantala sa mga
manggagawa, karapatang pantao, isyung pangkasarian, sitwasyon ng mga pangkat minorya at/o
marhinalisado, at iba pa. (CMO No. 57, Series 2017).
This course deals with physical fitness and self-testing activities concerned with developing muscular
strength, flexibility, cardiovascular endurance, speed, agility, coordination, and self-achievement through
the performance of certain skills.
It is designed to immerse students in activities that will arm them with the capability to contribute to the
upliftment of the general welfare and the quality of life of the community and the enhancement of its
facilities, especially those that are developed to improve the health, environment, entrepreneurship,
safety, recreation, and morale of citizens.

RC2101-DEVELOPMENT COMMUNICATION
The course focus on the concepts, theories, principles, and practices in communication in development
contexts. Includes case studies of development communication programs locally and internationally.
COMMUNICATION-RELATED ELECTIVES
SE2101-INTRODUCTION TO THEATER
The Introduction to Theater Arts is designed to provide the student with an exciting overview of the theater
by closely examining the elements of playwriting, acting, directing, design, dance, movement, voice, and
speech. The course will demonstrate how these elements are first created by various artists and effectively
brought together within a process that ultimately leads to a live theater production.
In this course, you will be introduced to historical and interpersonal concepts related to interpersonal
communication. In addition to demonstrating mastery of these concepts (via objective assessment),
students will also be expected to engage in various applications and exercises, such as oral communication
(public speaking), which will be utilized to demonstrate the student's knowledge of these interpersonal
concepts. This course examines the interpersonal communication skills of the learners before proceeding
toward the actual process, principles, issues, and problems occurring within an interpersonal
communication setting. Interpersonal skills examine basic verbal and nonverbal elements affecting
communication between individuals in family, peer groups, work, and social contexts. This course requires
participation in activities designed to develop interpersonal communication skills.
SE3204 - SOCIOLOGY
This course is an introduction to sociology to understand the world. Sociology is a field of study that
explains social, political, and economic phenomena in social structures, social forces, and group relations.
THESIS/SPECIAL PROJECT
THESIS/SPECIAL PROJECT I
This course enables the student to conceptualize and write a project or research paper covering chapters 1
to 3. The topics covered are research classification, research purpose, research variables, conceptual
frameworks, introduction to the thesis, related literature and studies, and research methodology.
THESIS/SPECIAL PROJECT II
Enables students to apply research skills, from conceptualization of a research topic to data gathering,
report writing, and presenting findings or production of creative work.
IP4201 - PRACTICUM
As Stated in the CHED Memorandum No. 36, s. of 2017, the practicum shall provide the students a hands-
on experience in the use of communication in the industry. Therefore, the Bachelor of Arts in
communication curriculum requires an internship with a minimum of 200 hours of communication-related
work, preferably in a development-oriented organization. Moreover, to provide exposure to communication-
related work, students shall be deployed to agencies that cater, to public/corporate communication,
information officers, social sciences and communication researchers/analysts, communication/media
planners and managers, program/project development officers, media petitioners, learning system
designers, multimedia designers, and in allied/related profession.
