Introduction
This book is roughly laid out in the order it should be focused on. Its
contents should take 3 to 5 years to proceed through. I tried as best as I
could to piece together a lifestyle suited to a westernized monk. I scoured
through old sutras from thousands of years ago, and meditated long hours a
day. The first 2 chapters are clarified versions of my notes, from 5 years
spent searching in such a way. They contain various meditations and
exercises. Some of these are magical workings in their own right if done
correctly. Others will likely stay with you for the rest of your life.
The rest of the book covers some basic spiritual concepts and strong,
effective, magic. The contents of these pages are far from absolute however.
The ultimate outcome depends on you. The proper mindset, devotion, and
intent will lead you down the path of Zen shamanism and witchcraft. These
things together form a strong foundation for the modern Hedgewitch.
A traditional Hedgewitch would experiment mostly in solitude and
serve the local village. The word originated in Europe, and it describes a
very specific sort of witch. Traditionally this is a wild natured witch that
works with spirits. A witch that is capable of crossing, or at least standing
upon, the veil or hedge between worlds. Herbalism and working closely
with local or free roaming spirits is common as well. Not everyone was put
to the flames and some ideas, and concepts, continue on beyond even time.
The sole purpose of this tome is strictly to instruct in magical
development and theory. You will find no obscurity, few warnings, and no
morality. It can serve as the spine of a budding spiritualist, or as an entire
self-contained path. Only however if you can find the balance required not
to fall. You must draw on yourself much more than what is written here,
because you will never find your soul in a book.
The deep things and places are always found first from within. A large
part of understanding this is to realize that sometimes all of the answers are
correct. To be locked into the mindset that there can be only yes and no is to
assure hindrances, if not outright failure. The path is obscured for most by a
simple paradox. Results cannot be practically achieved while lusting for
them. To attain you must let go.
How you come to view concepts will greatly shape your experience.
You will come to find that your frame of mind holds incredible power over
how you progress. It can become a cage just as real as one made of iron.
Should you become convinced that magic only works once on a blue moon,
then that is precisely what you will find to be the case.
Finding something on your own makes it uniquely yours in a way no
one else could possibly understand. This is the path of self-discovery,
followed by the ancients and their partner entities, of old that has been all
but lost to hubris.
This isn’t to say that you should close your mind to new ideas. It is
simply to say you should find simplicity when first starting out. Only accept
what you can make your own. Believe above all your own musings and
results.
There is much to be gained by beginning this journey with a conscious
shift in lifestyle. This serves not only as a symbolic nature but also greatly
improves wellbeing. Humans are living organisms, and abide by the same
general laws found all throughout nature. Many have forgotten this and
humanity suffers greatly for it.
Find pleasure in simple things, simple repetitive work, simple serene
relaxation, simple foods, and simple sensations. Break away from
materialism for at least a few months, in a gradual manner. Try to
incorporate coarse oats, raw vegetables, and fruits into your diet. Avoid
unnatural and artificial things. Strive to find a more basic healthy existence.
Only in the quiet can one truly begin to hear.
A productive life in the world brings about opportunities to strengthen
you, both physically and mentally. It can bring about inspiration as you go
about your daily task, and interact with those around you. Interaction is key
because without it your perception becomes stale, and opportunities for
insights are missed. Do not become a burden to society. Do not become lost
to it. To do so reflects poorly on yourself and leads only to ruin.
The tools and patchwork of knowledge contained within these pages
will see you through a lifetime of seeking. The first chapter alone should
take a year of quiet focus to proceed through. Do not get discouraged! Keep
a notebook and a persistent pattern of meditation. Eventually practice new
things with the same persistence and dedication. This is more important
than anything written, and will lead you down the path of reclaiming your
birthright, as a spiritual being. You should not be in a hurry because this
journey will encompass the rest of your life. A gentle but persistent tug in
the right direction will make proceeding that way a little less restrictive
each time.
The scholarly may find the topics covered here rather focused in scope
compared to what they could be. Some things are lightly touched over or
left out entirely. The simple reason for this is that there is nothing contained
within these pages that did not come from direct experience.
You will find no flighty falsities or half explored arts here. Every single
word is gleaned from a lifetime of experimentation and peril. If you have
come here seeking a path to real magic, and not some rehashed fluff from a
once removed librarian, then you have indeed found your book.
It should be noted that all outcomes, and responsibilities, resulting from
your endeavors are entirely yours. Should following along lead to your
displeasure neither myself, nor my fellows, are to be held accountable in
any way legally or otherwise. The experience you take away from this is up
to you. Reading the following pages indicates that you acknowledge this
and agree to these terms.

Chapter 1

Personal Meditations
Any meditation entered with a purpose will not serve you well starting
out. The reason is simply this. You would be focused on that purpose
instead of setting your mind free to expand. The meditative state is very
much like that of a waking dream. The harder you try to find it the more
elusive it will become.
Supernatural manifestations may occur during this period but it will
seem as though they do so of their own accord. Simply note these in a
journal, if you must, but do not dwell. To proceed beyond meditation before
finding your center is unwise.
It is true that any amount of meditation is beneficial but your first
serious attempt should be a session a few hours long. These will be hours
spent wrestling with your mind in an attempt to not wrestle with your mind.
Your ego, thoughts, and other such distractions, will battle the meditative
state. It will briefly no longer exist if you succeed. The more time you
spend in this state the easier coming to it will become.
Your memories, desires, and dreams, will battle for attention as well.
Each time you lose focus return your attention to the sensation, or mental
object, of the meditation and try again. Do not fight thoughts. Acknowledge
them and simply let them go.
It is recommended that you practice solely mediation for at least a year.
The importance of simple, goal free, meditation cannot be overstated. Once
you have progressed through this chapter, you will have found both sight
and a workplace. You will have also become both attuned, and sensitive, to
the four elements. You should be well on your way to learning yourself
inside and out. It must be noted again here, that if such things are your
intent you will likely fail. Focus on the breath and concern yourself with
nothing else but this observance.
It doesn’t matter where you do this but it is recommended that you
chose a consistent place. Anything you do that ties in settings, or sensations,
will only aid to trigger this state of mind. Start out with nothing at first. You
will likely find sitting in the dull quiet of your own bedroom a nearly
unbearable distraction. Go outside by a waterfall, or fiddle with candles,
once you are comfortable alone by yourself.
Humming, chanting, music, drumming, and dancing have all been long
used as focuses or aids for mediations. They remain for the most part
however beyond the scope of this book. Simply be aware that the avenues
for attaining magical effects through the mysteries are far grander, and more
varied, than anyone one person could think up.
Third Eye Meditation
The pathway of air where your two nostrils meet is the location of focus
for this mediation. The chakra accessed here goes up, and out, through the
layers of your consciousness, thoughts, and mind. This sounds simpler than
it is because you will see, and experience, many things as you develop.
Start by observing the breath where it flows in and out of your nose. After
you have become comfortable with this, aim to follow the sensation upward
to the bridge of your nose right below your eyebrows. It should be noted
that where you feel the sensation of air is slightly below where you will
come to see things at first. This seems to be causing people great confusion,
and why the location on chakra charts appears to be off. The area of actual
sensation from the breath itself is well below the third eye.
Each new sensation, or wisp of smoke, will break your concentration,
sending you back to the start. Over time this will happen less and less.
Eventually it will no longer happen at all. Many even gain the knack of
doing this while walking around and going about their day.
To clarify not everything you experience, or encounter, is a distraction.
It is simply that, with practice, you will be distracted less and less
regardless of circumstances. Eventually you will break through the backlog
of chaotic thoughts from the mind and the happenings of the day. This
begins the meditative state.

Deep Chakra Meditation

This meditation focuses on the breath interacting with the chakra near
your navel. This is also called the diaphragm. It is often used by musicians
that play wind instruments, such as flutes and tubas. It is also well known
by those that hold their breath for longer lengths of time.
While meditating on this chakra point, you will often not notice
anything happen at all. You will however feel deeply calm, and often
euphoric, afterwards. This meditation, if practiced properly, goes out by
focusing deep within. This leads to a waking dream like state of deep still
darkness and total quiet. Extremely powerful experiences are possible but
only when you chance upon them. Any attempt to actively participate
during this exercise will negate it by its very nature. Follow the breath from
your nose into your diaphragm. This is the chakra where the nothingness
lies. Feel the air in your belly. The same breath from before now pools here.
Be aware without giving it thought. You will mostly seem to see and
experience nothing, no thought, no will, no mind, no thing.
You cannot reach this state by trying. You reach this state by not caring
if you reach it. You will know when you are deep only after many years of
practice, and watching the smoky wisp in the stillness of the mind. This is
the meditation of Zen and the gateless gate. These two meditations should
be continued your entire life and not entirely neglected no matter where you
end up.

Elemental Meditations
Old friends and valuable allies cold, rain, and wind have long served as
an adept’s teacher. These exercises should be undertaken in earnest two to
six months into your practice.
The simple trick of bringing stillness to your shivers leads to sitting in
cold winds in deep meditative states. Embrace the warmth of the sun and
draw it into you. Come to enjoy the sharpness, and sensations, of the wind.
Find the tranquility and peace embodied by the soothing rain. All of these
will mix together as you prepare yourself, to be a proper and stable vessel,
for various energies. These things will bring you a new awareness, which is
beyond your physical existence, and impart incredible concentration. This
will in turn bring you closer in touch with the universe, through the smells
and stillness, which come with the awareness of the earth.

Cold Meditation
Learn to still your shiver; there is no further explanation, or guidance
for this. It is the simple act of willing your body still. This should be
practiced for a few months until you’ve gotten the knack for it. This will
prepare you subconsciously to accept the cold. The goal isn’t to be totally
successful permanently. The goal is to let this acceptance slip into your
mind. Doing this also greatly improves your concentration, and force of
will, as a bonus. This is an exercise in pure will. There is no specific point
of meditation for the breath

Sun meditation
Sit outside to meditate on a sunny day with a breeze, and a temperature
ranging from 45 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Pants and shoes are quite
acceptable, but you should be wearing a t-shirt. Still your shivers as best
you can, and focus on the warmth of the sun on your skin. Let the sensation
of warmth fill your body, while also mindfully accepting the wind. The
wind that now bites farther away than it once did. Maintain these things as
best you can and proceed to meditate.
Do not focus on the warmth. Leave the sensations behind and continue
to meditate on your breath. This meditation isn’t about ignoring the cold.
Acknowledge it and let it pass as you would a normal stream of thoughts.
This meditation isn’t entirely about embracing the warmth either. It’s about
what happens when you move beyond either. The point of focus for the
breath during this meditation should be your third eye chakra.

Water Mediation
A day should be picked with a steady drizzle, a temperature of at least
50 degrees Fahrenheit, and preferably a slight breeze. Let the cold wet
breeze fade into the background, like a distant muffled noise, and drift into
the serene quiet dark of meditation. The focus is inward and so deep that
outward is no longer a concept. This is a separate place all its own.
You may very well find yourself emerging warm and bone dry, with a
barrier to keep off the wind. The point of focus for the breath during this
meditation is the soul chakra. Temperatures below 50 degrees Fahrenheit
are not advised for rain. Just becoming at peace with being rained and
drizzled on in general, will also have some effect.

Wind Meditation
This simple mediation will greatly enhance your sensitivity if done
frequently. Feel the breeze move across the hair of your arm, and over time,
learn to focus the sensation on a single hair. Try and draw your point of
focus back out again from this singular point of sensation. Once you get the
knack for this your focus should naturally drift in and out at will. An open
car window, or being on a bike, will work as a substitute for a windy day.
Meditating on blades of grass as they ripple like waves in the wind will do
this as well, but it is much more difficult to accomplish due to it being an
external stimulation.

Visual Meditations
The goal of this is to be able to realize, and then steady, images in your
mind’s eye. Such images, and the ability to work with them, start you down
the path of opening your third eye. Simply get a long lasting candle that
won’t burn your house down. Stare at the naked flame with your eyes open,
and then continue to stare with your eyes closed. Your objective is to hold
the image of the candle flame in your mind for greater and greater lengths
of time. Next try to hold orbs of varying colors, and then geometric shapes,
in your mind instead of the flame.
How and when you aim to transition from a candle flame in front of you
to an orb of specified color without external aid is a matter of practice and
self-observance. The answer is as soon as you comfortably can.

Memory Meditation
Try to find your wallet or your keys visually. Do you see it there in your
memory? Did you place them in a drawer or on the table? Can you see them
there on the table or in the drawer? What is the lighting like in this
memory? What else is close by? Can you see other parts of the room?
This isn’t about keys or wallets but about interacting with your
memories. Any situation you can remember clearly will suffice for this. Try
remembering what your house looks like from outside or above. Try to
remember your neighborhood. Try to travel down the street. Should you
become frightened or lost just remember where you are.

Daydream Mediations
The goal is to drift off to sleep in a manner that just skims across the
surface. You should plan to take naps anywhere from forty five minutes to
two hours in length. You will know you are having desirable effects when
you start to vividly remember dreams. Eventually you will be like a
presence in the dreams themselves.
To add a breath meditation elements to this add the following. Find the
place in your chest where the air flows back and forth, between the upper
lungs and the lower diaphragm. Draw the breath back and forth between
these two areas, and focus on the sensation at the bridge. It is difficult to
meditate on this bridge and drift off to sleep. The result will be a stronger
intent and greater awareness for the dreamer. Should you not be adept at
working with your breath in such a way a simple nap will certainly suffice.

Dream Clarity
As you fall asleep every night you will notice a period of colors, shapes,
and images drifting across your mind’s eye. Some can become very clear
even if left on their own. Ideally you will perform this ritual in the middle
or very end of these visions.
Ask yourself “What can I see?” Stare in your mind, with all the focus
and intent you can muster, at these blurry images and colors. Repeat
multiple times if possible until you drift off to sleep.
Creating a simple dream sigil will further this along as well. With
practice this can offer a fine alternative on its own, or can be used in
tandem. Scrawl down whatever comes to you. It will be correct, because it
is simply a way of linking your intent to your subconscious, right before
drifting off to sleep. Combine these mediations with a dream journal and at
least seven hours of sleep every night. You will quickly start getting results.
Dreams that are prophetic in nature will rarely be literal but sometimes they
are quite so. You will come to recognize a certain style, or lighting, to the
ones that are significant.

The Campfire
Envision a stick or small log as it would rest in your dominant hand.
Give it your stress and negativity. It accepts these freely. Give it your cares
and troubles from your day in the world. The more you give to the stick the
more it gains detail. When your mind is empty, and no longer has anything
to give, toss the stick into a small fire pit. Watch it burn to ash.
Visually take the ash in your dominant hand and toss it over the
opposite shoulder. The stick and it burning are the most important concepts.
Do not worry about the details of anything else. The setting of a fire pit is
the next concept of importance to be gleaned by doing this. Lastly, if you do
this enough, you might start to form some sort of hand to go with the stick.
If you take nothing else from this exercise it should be that you do not need
any sort of manifested body to work magic. The presence of your
consciousness will entirely suffice.

Aura Charging
Relax and become aware of sensation at the top of your hair. Let this
awareness move its way down to your feet and then back up again. After it
has done this a few times bring down a pillar of white light into your crown.
Let it radiate through your aura. You will benefit from this even if you can’t
visualize it properly. The concepts and intent will have some effect just own
their own.

White and Black Orbs Exercise

Picture an orb of white light a few inches above your head, and let it
make its way as it pleases through your body until it comes to rest some
distance under where you are sitting. White light coming from above is
almost uniformly considered positive. You should notice it coming to rest at
various points along the way. Let it linger for as long as it pleases and do
not be in a hurry.
When it has made its way through you, and has finished resting under
where you sit, it will change from white to black and now be considered
grounding or negative. Allow it to travel down into the earth. Let it come
back along the same path it takes out, after passing roughly a foot under
grass and trees. It will come to rest under you again and will ascend in
reverse order, lingering at certain points as before. Be certain to thank the
energy as it is on its way in and out.

Pillars of light and dark

Drawn down a pillar of white onto the ground where you sit and then,
after a few moments, bring up a pillar of dark from the below to meet it
where the floor would be. Let it linger there briefly. Draw up these two
energies together as a ball of half black half white in your hands, and then
see them expand as white. Push this light out around yourself into a sphere,
or onto the walls of the room.

Personal Alchemy
To change something about you force yourself to respond in such a
manner as to pull yourself in the opposite direction, at every occasion that
presents itself. Rid yourself of sloth by placing yourself on a strict schedule.
It will have some effect each time you try and slowly draw you in a more
ordered direction. Respond at every chance with mercy to become less
severe. You will not always reign yourself in but over time the effects will
be obvious for all to see.
Magical transmutation is most difficult to learn. Begin by first working
with the rain. Walk around in a light rain or drizzle, when one happens upon
you, and proceed to become drenched. Every time you become annoyed, or
begin to despair, change these thoughts into serenity and wisdom. The
serenity is main component and focus of your lessons here, with wisdom
being more of a happy tag along bonus but equally invited. Alternately if
you are in a situation with inescapable hostility use this as a catalyst to
change your anger and hatred, for an individual or place, into creativity and
energy to escape the situation. Once you attain moderate success at doing
this it may be helpful to create some sort of sigil to further yourself along.
Write down a simple statement of intent and combine it into some sort of
sigil. An example is given on the following page.

“My new root will be in honor and strength of my patrons that I may be
reforged for a new season. Serenity and power of the moon and Goddess.
Wisdom from the God.”
“May Hatred, Anger and distress become Serenity, Power, and
Wisdom.”
Leaving any sort of circle half open will relay the intent that the
working spill straight out into your life. This is generally ill advised but in
this situation it is uniquely appropriate. Take due notice of what is and isn’t
included in the sigil. Always cast for what you want. Never cast for what
you do not.
It is recommended that you view everything you practiced related to the
matter as part of the spell, as you are forming this sigil. The energy will be
woven in as these moments drift through your mind and released when you
forget.
This sigil should not be burnt or tampered with after the fact. Leave it in
your journal forgotten and smile at the rain. Your personal transmutation
efforts should be continued but separated from thoughts of the sigil. It will
obviously cross your mind from time to time but you must learn here and
now to let such thoughts go.
This will slowly transform you into your stated goals as the magic spills
into your life. Once you learn to transform your own energies in such a way
you can apply them to the energies of others. It doesn’t matter if the
situation is mundane or magical in nature. Energy is energy and now it is
yours to bend and transform.

Chapter 2

Energy work and Chakras

Chakras are focal points of energy located around your body. It is true
that these overlay certain areas of the body, where biological energy
concentrates, but that is not the only connection to be found at these centers.
The awareness of these points, and access to their energies, will greatly
accelerate your growth in all aspects. You can balance yourself, or focus to
empower a specific chakra. This will grant or strengthen the abilities
associated with it. Time spent working with these energies brought to
fruition will allow you to interact with them intuitively and on command.
There are no colors and yet our senses still perceive them. Certain
energies are thus still very much in play or we’d all be walking around
blind. It is therefore obviously not the color itself that is influencing cause
and effect. The color blue is said to naturally bring calm, but since it doesn’t
actually exist this cannot be the case. The sun isn’t really red or orange but
we still feel its warmth and associate these colors with that sensation.
Colors are only overlaid here for the sake of coherency and because of their
practicality. Your throat chakra isn’t really blue and your heart chakra isn’t
really red. You are however interacting with the underlying energies of
those concepts.
Many have lost sight of this to their detriment. Should you choose to
mediate on a chakra the breath is still the key. Drawing on colors, or trying
to invoke purple, has its place but will do nothing but muddy meditation, in
its purest forms and pursuits thereof.
It doesn’t matter in the end if you can learn to harness healing energies
or not. Practicing through this chapter as nothing more than a series of
experiments to expand your senses, and channel your energies, will serve
you well regardless of the practical outcome.
Taking a day long break on occasion will greatly improve results upon
your return. It should be noted here that after roughly 3 days abilities seem
to atrophy. They often come back after this point even stronger, but the
mind behaves very much like a muscle in this regard. It would seem that the
white and black orb meditation, or aura exercise, from chapter one will
maintain most of your abilities own its own if done daily.

The Crown Chakra

Its color is white but silver is also related to this chakra. Its energy is
positive and usually lunar. Focus on this chakra to energize yourself and
bring positive energy into your aura.

The Third Eye Chakra

Brings about clairvoyance and mental clarity. Its colors are deep
purples. Focus on this chakra to enhance or develop the second sight and
psychic awareness.

The Throat Chakra

This chakra is the center of tranquility. Focus on this chakra to bring
about awareness of sensation and vibrations. It’s known as a protective
chakra and its colors are blues.

The Heart Chakra

Strengthens passions and love. Its colors range from dark red to soft
pink.

The Soul Chakra

The deep places and things reside here. This chakra leads to a vast
emptiness through which all things can be found. It is represented as black
only because there is no color in nothing. It is contained within a
contrasting ring because, without this as a reference, it would otherwise be
impossible to be aware of nothing. This is the gateless gate of Zen. To seek
the door is to be denied entry.

The Root Chakra

Aids in putting your life into action on the physical plane, and the
nourishment of your being. This chakra is linked to the life force of the
verdant earth its color is green like life. Its alternate color is brown like the
soil. It is literally your spiritual root just like any tree.

The Base Chakra

Is black and negative. Black is not bad and its energies tend to balance
out and ground. The base leads to ground and serves as the negative end of
our auric fields. The energy brought down through the crown simply flows
out the base. It should be seen as the negative end to a battery and not as
something evil or dark.

Hands and feet

Both hands and both feet have their own chakra points. The hands allow
for the manipulation and intentional manifestation of energy. The feet allow
energy to naturally flow to and from the earth. The feet are already open.
Opening the hands is explained in depth later.
Psychic empathy
When this ability begins to manifest in earnest you will get a fuzzy
picture of someone or thing in your mind’s eye. It may be blurry but the
sensation that comes with the image is the most important part. A person
viewed in this way will allow you to gain insight about them.
The better you become at observing images the more vivid, or close,
they become.
Letting go of the desire for this goal is the only way to open up enough
to obtain it in its most productive form. At first if you try to focus it will
hamper your mediation to the point that you’ll be unlikely to find the image
at all.
This sort of nonchalant attitude seems to be a common theme in getting
good results from many things that would otherwise be lost on the
practitioner entirely. You will slowly develop better focus and clarity with
use it. These sensations, and accompanying sights, will eventually grow
into a new form of perceiving, and interacting with, the world. Pushing
harder will not restore the image. You must learn to relax while focusing.

Chi energy
Energy work is born into fruition when a point of concentration
becomes a point of sensation somewhere on your body. This can be
developed into a powerful focused energy.
The meditations from chapter one should have greatly enhanced your
sensitivity. Rubbing your hands together, and using the sensation as the
focus of meditation, will start your development of this ability in earnest.
Think of this like the candle mediation from before but this time you are
trying to bring about awareness of how energy feels instead of looks.
Try moving your hands closely past each other after rubbing them
together vigorously. They should become warm and begin to tingle.
Practice this for a few weeks daily.
Once you can sustain the sensation fairly well while holding your hands
barely apart point with two fingers at your palm. Move up and down over
the center about a half inch above the surface. Eventually you will start to
feel a point of energy on your palm and be able to move it around. You will
be able to hold whatever form this sensation takes at will when you are
done.
Once you have learned to move your inward gaze around your body you
can use this area of concentration to block out moderate to extreme pain in
yourself and others. At the final stages of this practice your hands should
tingle, or seem to change temperature, when your attention is focused on
them.
Place your hands right above an affected area with your energy flowing
and try to gently pressure, or radiate, it into the injured area. Release this
into someone else through your palm with the aforementioned push of
energy.
The concept is to radiate a localized aura of loving energy, and then to
push your will through, and with, it into the recipient’s body, or spirit. This
will greatly increase the rate of recovery and sometimes heal people of mild
illness outright. You can learn to visualize this energy and can tie it off.
Repeated application can block out moderate to severe pain permanently, at
least when used personally.
You are learning to do what has often been called laying on hands. This
wording was however severely lacking or the concept wouldn’t have
become nearly lost to time. The intent that the energy be of wellbeing is
already there. All healing is done in the spirit of love by default.
Entire paths of magic are built entirely around this concept but it is
merely a starting point for you here.
It seems to be totally ineffective at curing cancer or fusing bones back
together. You should however be able to chase off colds and sooth pain at
the very least. Growing into a living pain killer has its uses to be sure. It’s
also wonderful practice for developing and learning your own personal
energy.
The best patient you can have is yourself, but if you never succeed at
using this on others you will end up lacking confidence. Start on yourself
and then try your hand at helping pets. Healing yourself seems rather simple
once you get the knack for it, but projecting this into another has generally
proven far more difficult. Truth be told they are exactly the same in the end
but convincing yourself of this will take time. The more concrete the
ailment the more nuanced the effect seems to be.
Animals that aren’t innately resistant will never resist your energies.
Unaware people will rarely resist your energies. People that are aware may
either help or hinder your results. You should find that people are more
open to your meddling than you’d think. Most people are inherently curious
to see what happens if nothing else. That’s all it takes to get through.

Long distance interaction

Gaze at the representative image of someone in your mind and channel
energy, through your hand, into the image. You can influence the energy
fields of others from anywhere. This image is contained in a scene and can
be worked with from an external perspective as well. The darkness around
them is part of this place of interaction. You can learn to move closer and
farther away from the image as you practice over time. Your hand is the
least important part. The image, intent, and energy are the most important
factors.

Drawing out darkness

How this is represented varies from person to person since the symbolic
representation of reality is uniquely perceived by each individual. The basic
concept is to find some representation of the spiritual energy of the being
you wish to interact with. When you are trying to find this representation do
not fret over what form it takes. You might see an image of someone clearly
in your mind, or you might see an aura alone in the darkness.
Once this is done try and find the ailment. It doesn’t matter if you find
anything to interact with directly or not. It does however matter that you
carry the intent of the task at hand. That task being to siphon off negative
energy, stress, or sickness. You can cast or siphon off indiscriminate
negative energy, but this seems to be more suited to spiritual energies than
specific ailments. Should you see something that looks sickly or dark, in
their aura or image, you have found your specific target.
Once you are satisfied with your link to the offending energy direct the
flow, or fling it, out and away. It is ill advised but in a panic the floor will
do. Whatever you do make sure not to draw it into yourself. Lines and orbs
are common motifs to represent this flow of energy.
To pull this all together into something with a tad more grace. Attempt
to draw dark energy out into a ball of black, or draw upon white energy for
positive support. The concept of black and white, as positive and negative
energies in your mind, can be applied to siphon out the negative and pull
the positive through.
Work towards the most beneficial actions in every regard when it comes
to healing or mending things. It should never matter to a healer which
course of action results in the wellbeing of a creature placed under their
care. Encourage seeking medical help if applicable but never shy away
from trying to help those in need. What matters is that they get well.

The breath of life

Another concept of working with energy is to breathe it. This example
is called the breath of life. It can be used to breathe life into constructs or
transfer energy to mend. It is a cloud that travels as a breath at your
direction for as long as you maintain concentration. Blowing while you are
doing this doesn’t hurt but it is not required.
See yourself breathing out a cloud of smoke of the proper color.
Channel it to the proper place for the desired effects. Breathe into another’s
chakras to lend them a temporary boost.
It can be used to breathe life into your constructs or fuel your spells.
You can “breath in” energy as well. Call it towards your desired chakra
from the air instead of outwards.

Chapter 3

Correspondences
Over the millennia certain objects and symbols have come to mean
similar things to many unconnected people across the globe. Examples of
this range from certain gods showing up repeatedly throughout human
civilization, to various independent interpretations of the color green. Even
in total isolation certain colors of the spectrum generally come to mean the
same thing to an uncanny number of people. These commonalities are not
unrelated but rather single threads in the grand tapestry that makes up the
interconnected universe.
Your experience may not be the same as another because it is partially
painted by your subconscious mind however. The flow of concepts and
imagery can be unreliable at best because of your own psyche interfering. A
quiet and observant mind will take you far in improving this.
Repeated correspondences offer the entrenched power, and certainty, of
thousands of years of human interaction. Using charted paths exclusively
however may block out your own powers of observation, forever retarding
your magical growth. Some sorts of magic also seem to require a more
spontaneous nature to entice their working. Both of these things can
however be true, and put to productive use, congruently. Just because
depending on natural magic can be a limiting factor doesn’t exclude its use
from being a boon.
Many objects have strong energies of their own on various levels.
Take the white sage plant as an example. The underlying purifying
attributes of this plant exist as a concept of their own. The purifying energy
within this concept has its own sentient divinity. The white energies of that
plant are uniquely expressed, while still being part of the grander web of
creation that makes up its etheric composure.
Working with external forces still uses your personal energies as a point
of interaction but the source of the current shifts. Burning a plant for smoke,
simply holding herbs or gems, blends the combined energies of the objects
together with your own.
While the essence of objects alone will serve you well, using what you
learned from earlier in tandem often creates spectacular results. Drawing
upon a plant, or other external source, is no different from the use of your
personal energies from before. Do exactly as you normally would and
consider your new tools as props. You are the conduit for these energies, as
you always were. The same rules therefore apply. For best results be at ease
and do not try. The energy is there all that is required is your relaxed intent,
and the ability to let it flow through your attentive subconscious.
It comes highly recommended that you develop a working respect and
relationship with the energies, or entities thereof, that you plan to interact
with in such a way. The old wisdom is that whatever you summon, or
connect with, better be pleased to see you. Try passively meditating with
various stones and plants. Become accustomed to their energies and bind
with them. Sit in the sun with an appropriate stone or next to a lump of
plants. Always retain and provide proper respect, and respects, for anything
you share with.
Raw or simple tumbled stones, and objects, serve as the best sorts to
draw upon. Should you cut a stone down, polish it, and put it inside an
earring, you’ll lose much of what was there. Wire wrapping a rough or
simple stone seems to have no negative effects. Mixing various gem, herbs,
and oils together does not reduce their effectiveness as a whole.
The following list is certainly not meant to be all inclusive, and only has
its place here for the sake of sane continuity. The information is too
practical to be ignored entirely, but it should not become your focus, or you
will cease to smoothly progress.
You should be reasonably certain of what health dangers, and potential
benefits, exist before experimenting with herbalism. Take precautions, and
do proper research, before attempting anything. Harvesting wild plants for
personal use should be done with caution. Use common sense but don’t be
afraid to dabble.
Putting Aloe Vera on sunburn, or small cuts, isn’t a bad place to start.
Everything expressed in this chapter is from personal experience working
with these minerals and plants. This book is meant to train new psychics,
witches, and shaman and is not meant to be a vast bible of incorrect tripe.

Amethyst
The psychic stone Amethyst enhances your third eye and its energies. It
has the inert ability to bring clarity of mind. It can also be used to control,
or aid, your second sight should you ever find yourself naturally unable.

Black Kyanite
Goes to the void. There is nothing there forever and this is not a bad
thing. Perhaps not everyone’s cup of tea but if you ever needed somewhere
to deflect, disperse, or draw off energy to, you would be hard pressed to
find a better aid than this. It should be noted that the earthen ground is not
the same place.

Rainbow Moonstone
Enhances the working awareness of auras. I must confess that I have
never devoted much time to looking for auras that are naturally there,
however on the odd occasion it has come up I’ve found this stone reliably
useful.

Rose Quartz
The energy inside this stone is pure light pink without fail, unless it has
been corrupted. This is the stone of pure innocent love.

Fire Agate
This is the stone of fire. The energy is purely that of the element of fire.
Should you be looking for transformation or passion in your life, you will
be well served by the energies of this stone.

Moss Agate
This is the stone of the earth and moss. The energy is absolutely of the
earth and contains the attributes of grounding and verdant life.

Tigers Eye
This is the stone of true sight, agility, fortune, and luck. Should you ever
need to be nimble and clearly see the situation at hand this stone will serve
you well.

Citrine
This stone seem to contain something very much akin to the positive
and cleansing attributes of sunlight. A slightly citreous nature is hinted at as
well. I have personally used this stone to chase out something that was
using me as a spiritual vase against my will.

Fluorite
This stone helps develop vibrational sensation and awareness of spirits.
It is also strongly protective and will give a boost to your psychic aura.

Chrysoprase
This stone provides magical insight and is strongly linked to certain
earthen deities. Should you need magical inspiration meditating with the
energies of this stone will serve you well.

Clear Quartz
Clear of attributes other than containing a strong energy of its own.
Cleanse and use this stone to fill with your own energies, or intent, to take
advantage of its malleable nature. It will aid and amplify any working you
attempt.
Lapis Lazuli
The stone of tranquility and water. Some stones seem to resonate more
with the seas while others seem to take on a more general watery tone. I
have no idea why this seems to vary but they all contain the attributes of
water. This is one of my favorite stones.

Merlinite
Deep insight, personal power, and spiritual guidance. Should you wish
for insight and to become aware of your deepest thoughts, doubts,
aspirations, and concerns, this stone will bring them to your attention with
profound vigor. Should you wish to seek magical guidance from a certain
bearded blue robed wizard; you could do far worse than carrying around
this stone with such intentions. I certainly make no promises but it’s aptly
named.
Be aware that “mystical merlinite” is mostly purple and not at all related
to true merlinite. The true stone usually seems an odd hue of blue with
white spots or speckles. I have never worked with the mimic stone so it is
not referenced here further.

Obsidian
The inner minded counterpart of quartz it brings clarity and truth to
visions. A scrying orb of roughly four inches in diameter will greatly aid
you in any endeavors of clairvoyance and communing with spirits. A black
mirror made of obsidian will do as well. Keep any scrying objects cleansed
and covered by a protective cloth when not in use. It would be best to
cleanse the room before working with one as well until you become gifted.
It is a solid grounding stone as well and can be greatly protective if
intended to be so. It however seems unwise to try and use a single sphere
for both absorbing hostile energies and communication. Scrying through
things being used to draw off dark energy is generally ill advised.

Tibetan Tektite
The proper variety is black with a cratered surface. You will be able to
tell immediately if you have received a proper one of these stones. The
energies are immense and seem to carry an essence of both the soul chakra,
or Om, and storms. Anyone seeking the deep should carry and meditate
with one of these stones often. Once you have become attuned properly you
could easily find eternity with nothing else. They are also incredibly good
for mental health and spiritual wellbeing.

Moldavite
Moldavite goes straight and far out. It will rapidly transform those who
work with it, and foster all manner of psychic and mental expansion. The
stone attracts some rather odd energies and entities however because of its
cosmic nature.

White sage
Purifying white smoke, strong antiseptic qualities, and can safely be
made into a tea. This is the plant of the white natured shaman. Salvia apiana
is being ripped from its native deserts at an alarming rate. It comes highly
suggested that you grow your own. They can be brought inside for the
winter with enough preparation harvested as an annual. Best results are
found when a mother plant is kept year round with clones taken as needed.
Whatever you do please do not rip this plant up if you happen to find it.
This will not only help one of the most sacred herbs survive, and thrive, but
will also open up a new world of green magic. There is no way to grow this
plant and not get to know it in the process.

Lavender
Brings calm, relaxation and peace. Use the flowers as incense or tea.

Peppermint
Settles the stomach and brings mild alertness. I can’t explain why but a
strong peppermint tea will certainly wake you right up. This plant is adored
by fairies.

Mugwort
When burned as incense or drank as tea it can produce a waking
daydream like state. It will keep you awake, but if you do manage to drift
off to sleep for the night after drinking this, it will greatly enhance the
vividness of your dreams. This plant is also connected to the goddess of the
moon. Use the flesh and roots of the plants, but not the flowers, regardless
of how you use it.

Rose
The colors of the petals seem to correlate directly with the energies of
the corresponding chakras. Use red petals for passionate love or lust, pink
petals for tinder kindness, and white petals for innocence, purity, or white
energy. I personally use only the flower petals, or buds, and do not bother
the rest of the plant.

Ragwort
Use caution having this this plant around children and horses. Mankind
has come to loathe this plant over the centuries but the moths and butterflies
still find it quite pleasant. It has a distinctive musky odor and is linked to
Satyrs and the horned god. To use it in ceremony dry the whole plant then
separate and collect the leaves and flowers from the stems. The stems can
be made into wreaths.

Mimosa flowers and leaves

You will know this tree by its airy pink flowers and feathered leaves. It
aids in dream work and all related pursuits. It can also be placed under your
pillow for protection should you ever come under attack while you sleep.
Dream walking goes both ways.

Marigold flowers
Linked to prophecy, dreams, and protection. I don’t use them often but I
use them for that.

Holy leaves
Strongly tied to woodland energies and spirits. A favorite during Yule
for the merry spirits it attracts. It amplifies prophetic powers and offers
protection during dreams.

Rosemary
Once you are sure you are not allergic pick this herb fresh. Wrap a
handful of leaves and stems in a cloth of some sort. Breathing through the
cloth will remedy coughs and colds outright. It also sharpens the mind and
has a strong white energy of its own. It is slightly linked to the moon.

St John’s Wort
I do not use this ritually but it certainly has helped with pain when the
oil is applied to the hands, or other aching area. It must be stored out of the
sun. Applied oil must be kept out of sunlight entirely at all cost. Sore knees,
joints, and carpal tunnel have been successfully treated.

Valerian
This herb will send you off to sleep. It should only be used after
consulting your doctor if you are on medications. Do research before
starting use. It is said to be slightly addictive but there are worse remedies
and problems to have.

Clovers
Use the leaves of white clovers for luck, and prosperity, and their
flowers for positive force. Use both the leaves and flowers of yellow
clovers for money and fortune. They can be eaten, both grown and as
sprouts, and are the favorite food source of honey bees.

Aloe Vera
This plant is listed solely for its medicinal properties. Sooths and cools
burns. It also has antiseptic properties, and can be placed on cuts to keep
them from getting infected. Regularly change your bandages regardless of
what you have chosen to use as one.

Bay
Enhances psychic abilities and offers protection and clarity while you
dream. The leaves are the most common part of the plant that is used,
adding them to pouches, or pillows, offers far greater effects than ingestion.

Cinnamon
This herb is intensely powerful when used in spellcraft. Its attribute is
solar and it can add good fortune and luck to anything you use it in.

Dragon’s blood
Greatly increases spell power. Burning this every time you are starting a
work of great importance to you will, at the very least, trigger your mind
into acting under that pretext.

Witches blood
Rose, carrier oil, spit, holy water, and some left over ashes from
incense, or anything else held sacred and burned. Leave this sitting for a
few nights until it turns red. It will symbolically represent your blood. Your
own blood will obviously do as well.

Dream tea
Mix 1 part red rose petal, 1 part lavender, and 2 parts Mugwort via a
manner of your choice. Steep until lukewarm. This tea has varying effects.
The first function of this tea is a burst of energy that will prevent one from
sleeping for a few hours. During and after this you should feel slightly
dreamy or oddly relaxed. The real purpose of this tea however manifest
after one drifts to sleep for the night. It will greatly increase the vividness of
your dreams. You should try to relax and nap right after drinking it. A
daydream is still a dream.

Beeswax candle making

For a votive candle that will last for 3 or 4 days do the following. Firstly
find something fireproof, and stable, to keep the candle in. Innumerable
people catch fire every year due to candle accidents. A reasonable idea is to
go and purchase a larger candle, in a sturdy glass container. You can
purchase these candle containers without wax online if you prefer. Ideally
you’ll leave an inch or two of wax at the bottom of this base candle. This
will give your votive something to anchor to and keep you from burning
down your abode. Thick clay containers will work as well. Make sure
whatever you find is big enough to catch some of the wax, should things go
awry.
Anchor a #4 candlewick to the bottom of your tall votive candle
container. This should be done with something that is heavy enough, and
will also hold the wick in place. Glue does not work. Make sure, whatever
you use, that it won’t come loose. Once you are certain it is secured center
the wick from above with a pen or chopstick.
A common ratio for these candles is half beeswax to half coconut oil.
This is placed in a double boiler on medium heat or below. Oil will catch
fire if the heat is too high, and well before then high temperatures will cause
your wax to smell of smoke. You can add in any additives such as herbs, or
coloring, once the wax and oil have melted together. Darkly colored spices
and strongly scented herbs can be placed inside small cheesecloths to color
and scent the wax. Feel free to leave several pinches of raw herbs in the
wax itself.
Pour your wax into the votive container. Ignore any water that may fall
and use great care not to spill the wax. Stop pouring 4 inches from the top
of the container. Your wick should have enough length to extend outside the
resulting candle.
Let the candle cool until solid and then add another inch or so of wax.
Many wicks termed “natural” must be submerged in the wax, and placed
back in suspension, before the final pour has time to harden to ensure they
properly burn.
Cut off the wick 3 inches from the top of the wax after allowing the
candle to settle for at least 24 hours. 48 hours later you’re candle will be
ready to use.

Chapter 4

Simple magic
Grounding is placed here at the start because without doing it properly
chaos and insanity often consume the unwise. This isn’t to say that you’ll
blow to bits out in the yard but you certainly won’t come to a good end. Use
the earth to ground out excess stress, and energy, through your feet and
hand chakras. Digging around in the dirt with your hands, or walking
barefoot across mossy forest, will leave you just as thoroughly grounded as
anything else. The campfire and orb exercises can be used to ground out
stress, and balance out your energy, if you are the mental type.

To imbue an object with earth

Walk barefoot in a mossy forested area on a cool afternoon. Try to hang
out under trees to meditate during a light drizzle. Hold in your hand a Moss
Agate and gently intend to link both yourself, and the stone, to the forest
while mediating.

To make a simple fortune fetish

The concept is to imbue a pouch with energies that will leach into your
life, or that can be drawn upon directly. Place a tiger’s eye in a pouch with
dried green and yellow clover leaves, and yellow clover flowers. Leave this
somewhere during the day that is touched by the sun, or preferably lying to
charge where you found the clovers. You can just charge it with energy
yourself if you’ve picked up the knack.

Black kyanite and Chrysoprase

A combination of powerful magical insight. If you need to figure out
how to cast a sort of spell draw on these two stones together for inspiration.
The energies of these two stones together is extremely solid, and in
combination seldom do anything else. Go about your day with them in your
pocket, and occasionally muse about the topics at hand as they naturally
drift up. You’ll find your answer soon enough.

Amethyst and Fluorite

Strong psychic protection and a great boon to opening your mental sight
and sensitivities. To charge leave out under as full of a moon as you can
manage, and try to bring them in before the sun gets very high in the sky.
Leaving them on the windowsill at dusk and bring them in at dawn.
Combining Merlinite in a pouch with these two stones that is kept in your
pocket daily will bring prompt and powerful spiritual growth.

Moonstones
Make very sure you have properly introduced yourself to, and have
become accepted and known by, the energies of the moon before using this
stone. Once all proper respects have been paid place a cloudy, or otherwise
rough, moonstone into an herb pouch with mugwort. Leave this to properly
charge under the full moon, making sure to bring it in at or before dawn.
You will have a powerful object of pure white energy.

Citrine and fluorite

These are two strongly protective stones. To create a simple crystal grid
for protection place three citrine and one fluorite spaced equally along a
circle made of white chalk, salt, or salt water. This will only offer protection
within the circle but the strength is immense.

Dream pouches
Gather holly leaves, mimosa flowers, mugwort, lavender, and yellow
marigold. Leave these in the pages of a book to dry out. Then place them all
in a pouch no smaller than your hand. Add an amethyst and moonstone
inside to power and anchor. Leave this outside under the full moon to
charge, bringing it in at or before dawn. Leave it under your pillow for
protection during your dreams. Fall asleep clasping it to induce dream
walking.

Herb baths
Water is a very fluid element and serves as the vessel for the forces at
work. Mixing in Nettle adds a siphon to drain off negative energy, while the
white herbs energize and protect. To chase off problems in general take an
herb bath of with the following herbs St. John’s wort, Rosemary, Mugwort,
Lavender, Black Nettle, Rose, and a dash of salt. The combinations are all
interchangeable, but a little salt and at least two other herbs should be used
just to make sure. Some effects linger long after the bath.

Protective aura
The simplest of all protective magic is aura work and meditation. With
no other areas of focus your chakras you will just radiate out a stout
cleansing aura. You can further harden this aura through the intent that your
auric energy reflect, or jut aside, all negative energies. If a good life is lived
the possibility of backfire is high to any attacker due to belief, and devotion
to karmic consequences, of the practitioner. This concept holding
universally true however would lead to a vastly different world than the one
we have.
This seems to be effective only for those few who manage to put it to
magical effect and even then it appears to have limits. Obviously many
people attempt this. Few seem to know what it is they are doing or why. A
stout aura will only get you so far however and is certainly not the only
means of dealing with protection.

Holy water
Add a pinch of salt into a small glass of water and stir it clockwise.
Charge this with white energy, or draw down the moon to bless your water.
You can simply leave it outside under the moonlight, and bring it in before
dawn, if you are just starting to dabble. Salt or water by themselves will
have some effect. The effectiveness and longevity of anything made by
cutting corners will vary based on the abilities of the witch. Just pouring
salt water around an area, and splashing some on each surface, will create at
least some sort of barrier.

Anointing oil
Find carrier oil such as grapeseed or olive. Add fragrances, fine herb
dust, and small shards of gems. You can use anything as long as you are
certain of its safety. The magical concepts previously discussed before carry
over here as well. Refer to the herbs and stones from chapter 2.

Circles of protection and pentacles

Intentionally deforming a symbol meant for you own protection is
extremely unwise. Feel free to experiment at your own peril. Realize
however that there may be dire consequences for performing magic that is
profane. It is again the intent that is the key but there is no sense in being
overtly sloppy. Do the best you can every time and you’ll find your way.
Plain circles and salt will work just as well as complex geometric
shapes, and other garnishes, to form a protective shell to work from. The
more layers of symbolism you weave into your circle however the more
effective it’s nature will become. Five through eight sided stars are used
commonly as are circles and triangles.
Over Complication of ritual is a sure fire way to fizzle your magic.
People have come to only focus on words, symbols, and ritual, losing the
meaning and concepts behind them. This is the great tragedy of our time.
The Pentagram has been commonly used as a symbol of protection for
thousands of years. Should you find yourself under powerful and direct
attack. Trace out a pentagram on the floor with chalk, or pour one using
holy water or salt. Place reinforcing gems at each point of the pentagram. 4
citrine and a fluorite have proven incredibly effective. This won’t help you
outside the circle. Under great stress such a barrier may flatten out a bit in
profile. Lying down inside of it assures your absolute protection.
The order given for the points on the following page is just how I have
always drawn, or traced, pentagrams. A barrier is far better than no barrier.
A pentagram is far better than no pentagram. There is no north or “proper
starting point” when tracing things sideways on a wall or in the air.

To create a permanent fortification or sanctuary

Burn white sage in the room or make an offering. Anything in the room
when these barriers are placed will be trapped inside. Make all effort to
clear the space or otherwise convey this to nearby spirits.
Trace or place a pentagram on the walls of the room. Blow white sage
smoke into them to strengthen and energize. You can draw and energize
these shapes entirely in your mind to great effect, once you get the hang of
it. It should be your goal to make such visualizations a part of all magic you
do. Simplicity and the will of the witch are critically important. Chalk, for
example, isn’t exceedingly magical on it’s own. Placed in the hands of a
confident witch however it might as well be made of god him or herself!
Physical objects can give your magic an anchor for longevity, and a solid
foundation to make sure you aren’t overcome. Temporary or mental barriers
may fade or waver. Spending your entire life depending on crutches and
props however will leave one the literal definition of unwieldy.
The barrier simply is once created. You can set its conditions to allow
only certain sorts of things through. Burning incense, and cleansing smoke,
often in a warded room will allow the smoke to seep into the walls. This
will reinforce your barriers.
You won’t be protected from everything every time, but with a little
practice you’ll certainly be aware if they are taken down or fade. These
wards are incredibly resilient and will keep most spirits from just walking
into your sanctum.

Witch bottles
Take a bottle of some sort. Spit in the bottom of it and put in a little of
your hair. You can add some combination of black kyanite, bits of broken
mirror or dirt on top. Envision a decoy of yourself in the bottle looking
content and relaxed, if you can, and leave it lying around the house in some
obscure corner. Take great care that no one ever steals this bottle from you.
Use this only if you must.

A basic tranquility spell

Simply envision yourself, or someone else, surrounded and encased by
a solid blue bubble. Adding a gesture or unspoken word will help ingrain
this pattern in your psyche over time. This will serve as a subconscious
trigger. Adding your own sensations of calm, and placidity, to this visual
representation will make it more effective if placed on someone else.
Natural empaths will find this sort of magic easier than others.

A basic prosperity spell

Intent plays a very key role in any sort of magical working. This Intent
mixed with energy is then either entwined with an object, released into
infinity, or both. Like colors mixed together on a painters brush intent
mixes with energy and vision to form a scene. This is then “cast” or
released in various fashions.
Envision yourself making money or getting an ideal job. It doesn’t
matter how you make money or what you do for a living. Adjust this vision
to fit your environment and situation.
Summon an orb of yellow gold energy between your hands, and drawn
down this vision into it. After making all effort to charge the orb you have
summoned, release it over your head in whatever fashion comes naturally.
Beams and lightning bolts are two classics. Putting your hands over your
actual head is not necessary and looks silly.
You can try chanting mantras, or words of power, while charging the
orb as well. The form and shape of this energy upon release is not nearly as
important as doing so without hindrance. Letting all of this flow naturally is
paramount.

To enchant yourself
Place your favorite combination of stones in a small pouch, and keep it
in your pocket while you go about your day. When at home keep the pouch
on your altar or near your head while you sleep. Keeping these with you
while going to the gym, or otherwise exert yourself, will make the attuning
process quicker and more effective. You can draw on each stone
individually for specific functions and attributes. The entire pouch can also
be drawn on as a whole. Over time the pouch will leak out into your life
own its own.

Enchanting an object
Draw an image down into a ball of energy like before, but this time
instead of releasing it see the orb go down into the stone or object. Envision
this object, now containing your energized intent, and draw it down into a
ball of corresponding energy. Charge and release this energy as you
normally would, while holding the stone in hand. The stone is now an
anchor for your spell and will persist for a longer duration.

Poppets and voodoo

Make a doll of whatever sort suits you. Any sort of pliable clay can be
used but traditionally cloth and thread has been used to create a proper
poppet. Once you have your doll constructed to taste create and charge a
geometric sigil, over time, to place your poppet upon. Print out the
symbolic geometric shape of your preference, if you want something nice.
Trim the excess paper down a bit and you have your sigil. The visual
mediation upon a sigil, or object, from chapter one will work superbly for
this task. This will serve as the representation for your astral workspace.
Take your poppet and place an object, with a link to the recipient,
inside. Hair or tears work wonderfully for this. A clipping of someone’s
face from a photo, or an object they often carried will do.
Place this object upon your working space and call them by a nickname.
It matters that this, to you, is your name for them. Try and envision their
spirit being drawn down and bound to the poppet, while chanting their
given name. You can make due with no linking object at all if you have the
skill but the results will be temporary. Proceed from here and do to the doll
what you want of the target with pins or gemshards. Visualizations will
suffice just as well, if not better, than actual objects, if you have a trinket
with a strong link to the intended target.
This can be used to heal as well as harm. Various herbs and gems can be
used to influence the doll. You have created a magical scene that can be
used to enchant as well as anything else. That is to say while voodoo can
certainly be used to bring misfortune it can equally be used to bring the
reverse. Surrounding the doll with molded guardian figures, lavender, and
tiger’s eye, will for example bring protection, calm, and luck.
A temporary doll can be fashioned with no binding object out of
moldable clay or putty. Form the shape of the intended target out of the clay
while chanting their name, or a nickname you have given them. Be as
detailed as you can in this modeling and always include at least one strong
feature that stands out to you about them. Do they have a favorite hat or
defining feature? Use this as your link. Try your best to do this work in an
area over the sigil. Picture them in your mind and draw them down into the
doll. Bind them here either through chakra points or by inscription.
Regardless of styling the intent is to draw them down, and bind them, to the
object with their own energy, or by their own energy centers. Unpleasant
acts of this nature are commonly known as hexes. The results are immediate
and real.
Chapter 5

Working with spirits

Encounters with external beings are common, but people often lack
ability to perceive them. This should not lead you to blind fear and
superstition however. There are many well-meaning spirits, and passers-by,
that can be quite pleasant. Many witches develop working relationships
with these spirits over time.
A great many things of foreign nature are at least partially painted by
your perception of them. That is to say that you are likely influencing the
appearance of anything you see with your mind’s eye. This ability is hardly
unique to humans, and some spirits are quite capable of a permanent form,
continuing on through eternity. Your skin and organs must certainly seem
strange to them!
Entities may very well communicate ideas, images, or feelings directly
to you in the way described in chapter 2. However, instead of other people
you are now interacting with external entities that are phasing through into
your persona and aura. This area where your perception meets the
observance of others, or the universe at large is known as the veil. It can be
experienced in many other ways of course, but this is certainly one such
expression. In this form it is akin to where the skins of realities meet.
It is prudent at this point to establish some sort of sanctified, or warded,
area to make contact with spirits that are sympathetic to your endeavors, or
that are generally good natured. Daily practice will both illuminate and
reinforce this area. A sacred place in the woods can also be suitable, if you
are more comfortable in such a setting. Stating rules and laws for this
sacred space during its creation will only allow spirits through, if they are
willing to do so under the barriers criteria. Something to the effect of only
allowing spirits that are “polite and respectful” comes highly recommended.
Moon phases, states of mind, and surroundings are just a few examples of
circumstances and settings that may influence what finds you easily.

Building altars and places of power

Build an altar and try to create a point of persistent contact with your
favored guide, god, or spirit. Altars can be located literally anywhere, but
are usually placed in the area of spiritual practice. The settings can vary
from a bedroom, or simple garden, to ornate shrines of natural magic. Alters
and magical objects are strongest when collected, and put together, over
time, of your own intuition and toil. Seasonal items collected from nature
itself are considered very fashionable among the witchy community.
Finding twigs and sticks, or the occasional leaf, will serve you far better
than mail ordering seasonal cranberries. Copper is a very conductive and
popular metal, but you could literally make an altar out of twigs, and leaves,
and it would be just as proper. You can tie in themes, seasons, elements, and
correspondences to taste.
The final form these alters manifest contain innate intent and garner
immense power. They serve as weak points in the veil that separates our
variance, and hue, of reality from all others. This creates an anchor for the
links of all parties, and energies, involved. It is also representative of the
hearthstones from the lore of the ancestors.
Many magical implements are often left in the alter area to charge,
replenish, and bind. They are also commonly left out under the sun, or full
moon, to be restored otherwise.
Seeking a magical source, or concept, will draw the needed knowledge
promptly into your lap, or mind. Experiencing these things coming to you
naturally is a unique magical coming of age. Leaning on books for guidance
is well and good, as long as it’s not to the detriment of actual experience.
Apply the knowledge directly to your life in the various ways during this
period. Do not leave it on a shelf, or fall sway to artificialism. Creation and
bindings are sewn into the now and present moments that make up the
threads of forever. To miss out on your own innate natural progression,
because you are otherwise engaged, is a great and irrevocable loss.

Offerings
Refer to earlier chapters for the mix and make up of your offerings.
Never put something you know to be dangerous to humans in your blend. A
nice base of lavender, or other herb, that has a rather fluffy texture comes
highly recommended. Crumpling things up with your hands will do, but a
mortar and pestle comes highly recommended. What is important is that
you do you best to purify the offering. Simply envision the substances
turned briefly white in your mind’s eye.

Guides
It is prudent here to mention the benefits of rest and occasional
downtimes. You will spend the rest of your life learning not to flee from
things of extraordinary nature. Building trust can take years. Knowledge
needs time to adapt. It is common to walk away for days at a time during
this bonding period, even when things are going well. This book is tilted
towards letting what is appropriate find you, but the correspondences and
wardings from earlier can certainly be a boon. Seek them and they will find
you. Do your own research should you encounter, or desire, a certain entity.
Nothing is lost to time in this day and age.

Vessels
Idols serve the purpose of causing even the unknowing to gaze upon a
god form bringing it close. The layman may only serve in communion with
such things, being blind by choice. Those that have developed senses,
however, have an object to focus on and a point of ready access.
The image will eventually animate if meditated upon in the mind’s eye,
taking on its own form and persona. Suitable stones, or figures, intended for
the energies of guides, or spirits, will serve just as well as any ornate gem
pillar. Engagement and simplicity will get you farther than anything else.
Again find the style that suits where you have ended up, and not the other
way around. Touching, or being near, the object will aid in interaction and
clarity. The true adept however will gaze at, and with, their minds eyes and
not the physical figure itself.
Figures and figurines are entirely unnecessary. Your attentiveness, and
mutual working respect, is far more amiable than any trinket. Gods do not
get lost and their adepts are never far apart. You may easily find a guide
before having an altar. The old ones of the forest existed long before
metallurgy.

Senses
Your low senses will begin to see orbs, and often experience
accompanying smells or sensations. As you move closer to your guides they
will move closer to you. You must not be afraid, and be strong enough not
to turn back. The idea is to meet them on the mountain, veil, or barrier
between realities and then to cross. You will bleed over into various aspects
of reality and they will bleed into yours.
Spirits most often communicate through dreams, and a sense of
emotion, at first. You will likely, at times, experience an overwhelming
happiness or even glee. The limiting factor is your ability to experience
expanded facets of reality. A developed dream mystic would likely be
visited through his or her dreams at first. A sensitive empath would feel or
smell. A psychic would likely see. These senses can all be expanded upon
in tandem.

Manifestation and working with your guides

Most guides have literally been demonized. The terrible things people
have come to believe about these spirits makes them weep, not only for
themselves, but also for you.
Spirits are often lingering, before, during, and after their apparent
manifestations. They may at times wander off. One can go years after an
encounter totally unaware of their presence. Guides will often do nothing
visibly for you. They want you to work things out yourself so they can
better communicate with you. Learning by clawing your way through
experience is a sure recipe for growth. Living through, and like, this will
groom you into a sorcerer or witch. It should be noted here that misery and
suffering are quite optional in the end. Organic life, and striving for your
dreams, will see you just as well off.
The wishes of your new sir or sirs vary depending on who or what
you’ve found. It may take a very long time to identify some of the older
deities and to grasp their concepts.
The realms of light, life, nature, shade, darkness, and magic seem to be
highly amiable. The quest for wisdom and knowledge come in high regards
as well. Many of the old guides from these places are beyond delighted
when people try and use magic themselves, instead of “praying” or losing
all meaning to ritual.
Life and light guides usually want you to continue living happily, while
darker natures may have more specific request. The realm of death energy
is highly dangerous and may very well require physical suffering.
Regardless of what suits you, any guides specifically devoted to magic,
wisdom, life, nature, or the moon will generally be glad to see you.
Should the dualism of light and dark interest you in this area, the white
goddess of the moon stands alongside the dark god of the forest known as
Pan. The goddess can seem a tad standoffish at first, and the void magic of
Pan can be a tad intense. Do not be afraid should you encounter either of
these entities. They both mean you well.
Deities with both male and female characteristics are often not meant to
represent hermaphrodites. This symbolism expresses an existence of unity,
between both male and female energies, and thus all things. Wings and eyes
are just as likely to attribute flight and sight as actual features.
Understanding the cultural and symbolic nuances of whatever you have
encountered, is a great boon and will save much confusion.

When things go wrong

Sometimes during your adventures things can go horribly wrong. Living
in a neighborhood prone to violence, or calling swarms of shades, requires a
certain knack to return from intact. Most versed and practiced in the occult
have few problems, others however are often far less fortunate. If you’ve
drawn nothing so far from this chapter I sincerely hope it is this. Trying to
be kind and polite to guest will get you farther along than blindly swinging
a sword. Negotiation sometimes gets you far more in return than
aggression.
That said not everything you run into exist externally, not everything
you run into will be respectful, not everything you run into wants to be
friends. Even more concerning perhaps are things that do for their own
nefarious purposes. This isn’t to say that even the more notorious sorts of
spirits are beyond reason. It is simply to warn the adept not to sell him or
herself short. Why bothering mucking around with things that demand
payment, or try to barter away your soul, when there are so many more
amiable entities in the ether?
The greatest danger of all is falling prey to your own paranoia and fear.
Make good and well sure an entity means you harm, before causing further
fuss. Maybe it thinks you are pretty, is simply bored, or wants something.
Things being knocked and thrown around are not signs of hostility.
Knocking and loud pops are not signs of hostility. The room going cold or
lights dimming are not signs of hostility. Transformers exploding are not
signs of hostility. Sometimes these things are just part of the experience.
Your little endeavors must certainly seem flashy and loud to them. A simple
test of character is to bid them to give you space and see what they do in
return. Use your mind not your words.

Testing a spirit
The mind creates things of various sorts own its own therefore not
everything you see is an external entity. A most basic sort of test is to
transform the visage into something harmless. Things without substance, or
that are not very well put together, will not return easily. Activities such as
this are rarely smiled upon by the receiving party. It is highly unwise to try
this on everything you encounter; doing so would also be considered rather
cruel. It does however seem to work most of the time. It may be wise to
welcome spirits you have summoned in quite another fashion however.

Astral combat
See the spirit in your mind and tether white orbs or suns to it at various
places. Tie these off to pentagrams, or chakra points, on the creature. It is
the concept, and focused intent of the work, mixed with the flow of energy
that garners results. Obsessing over details is counterproductive. If things
have gone far enough off kilter, this is hardly the time to be picky. The
energy is there. Let it flow into the scene you are experiencing and focus on
your part.
Another way to deal with things is to will light to be, and apply your
force of will directly to the edge of this energy as a “push”. You will see the
spirit start to unravel. Do not stop for any reason, and continue on well past
there being any remaining trace. Do not pay any attention at all to its form.
Attempt this only if you are sure the spirit is genuinely foul or dangerous,
only one of you walks away.

Cursed objects
Objects can come to contain spirits or personified emotions. A young
artist spilling passion and paint onto a canvas, has just as much chance of
imbuing an object as anyone else. The same passions and emotions of the
young artist can be channeled, in similar fashion, by the expressions,
traumas, emotions of death. Some people simply do not go away after they
die. Normally this is ok but if the family member was cruel it can lead to
serious problems. Should you encounter a hostile object, and want to
contain the lingering spirit, try the following.
Find the vessel. It could be a painting, pictures, an urn, anything really.
Burn some white sage in the room and prepare a circle of protection. Bring
the cursed object inside the barrier, and trace a pentagram with anointed oil,
on a few of its surfaces. You should do your best to charge, energize, or
otherwise empower, the newly inscribed sigils. Some sort of accompanying
incantation is certainly a plus. To disperse the energy from objects entirely,
bury them in the dirt after containing the spirit within. Alternatively
incinerate the objects, and then bury the ashes afterwards.

Possession
There are times when living this sort of life that mistakes are made,
willingly or otherwise, that may leave the magus unfavorably possessed. In
the event of unfavorable possession immediately seek out one, or both, of
these things.

White tea, for our purpose, isn’t named thus because of its literal
ingredients. Instead however it is named so because of the energies it
contains. Mix a small amount of white sage, mugwort, and rosemary
together into a tea. You wouldn’t want to use more of this than would fit in
a traditional tea bag. Rose petals, and lavender, can be added to this as well.
The tea should turn the water slightly white in hue. Citrine is a powerful sun
stone. To cleanse yourself meditate on your third eye, while holding one of
these stones unnoticed in your hand. The sun warms these stones and will
only help you in doing this. The spirit should flee this light if it’s invasive.
Neither of these things is certain to ward off an unwelcome spirit, but
they will chase them out and free you to act. There are a great many people
that serve as mediums for spirits, and offer themselves as vessels and seers.
Do not assume everything you shoo off means you harm. Again a good
general test is to see if the spirit will hold its peace, once you have
communicated that you are uncomfortable. Generally any spirit that isn’t
polite, or respectful, enough to honor your request for reprieve, isn’t
something you should have wearing you around like a sock.
Containment hex
If you encounter a dark entity that you simply cannot vanquish, find a
small white and black candle set. Light the white candle. See the entity split
clean in half by pillar of white light, like it’s burning from a fountain,
arching up into a white orb. This links the white energy flowing from the
candle to its originating source.
Light the black candle. Envision an orb of the black below, pulling
down on the sides of the abomination that was previously split in half by
the white fire. Draw this energy down, out, and beneath into the black
candle.
The white fire should maintain itself, holding the monster at bay, while
splitting the shadowy form in half. The black candle will pull down on both
sides, drawing the darkness of its spiritual form apart at both sides, and
down into the now anchored black candle and orb, like peeling the skin off
a very horrible severed banana. Even this will not permanently disperse
certain things but, as long as your candles burn, it will be contained.

Black and white candles

In the event that you simply cannot disperse, or otherwise chase away, a
dark spirit through displeasure, one can attempt to aim to permanently
contain it instead. This can be used for basically any dark, or unpleasant,
energy that plagues you. The same concepts from other objects apply here
as well. Again this isn’t specifically geared towards dealing with hostile
spirits but it can, and has, been adapted to great effect. This magic is very
old, simple, and powerful. Take a black candle. Envision, or otherwise give
it, all of your pain, suffering, darkness and trauma. Let these energies flow
into the candle then light it once the link is established. The flame, and now
opened conduit, will work as a siphon. Let this candle burn until you are
satisfied. Do not let it burn down more than half way. Blow the candle out
and proceed to the white candle.
Take the white candle. Envision, or otherwise lend it, your happy
thoughts and energies. Think back through the happy moments of your life,
and let the positivity begin to flow. Light the white candle once this link, or
conduit, has been established. Your positive energies will siphon through,
and into, the candle, and radiate into the room.
Let it burn down until you are satisfied. Do not let it burn down more
than half way. Take the black candle and break it in half. Either bury as you
would other cursed objects or, in case of desperation, place it in the freezer
in container of salt. Place the white candle under your pillow and leave it
there. Do not break the white candle for any reason. If it breaks own its own
do not panic. Just leave it under your pillow. The flow of positive energy
will still outbalance the negative. Everything from before in the book
certainly applies here as well.
While both of the examples in candle work draw on the same basic
concepts there is one very important difference. One aims to overcome, the
other aims for nothing. That is to say that one engages hostility directly,
while the other does so in an entirely passive fashion. Many horrible things,
and people, have figured out how to use resistance for empowerment. The
harder you try to fight the more you have engaged them. This is the trap
that seems to give them so much power, when in the end it is a simple
parlor trick. Just as fear feeds certain unpleasantries so too does the
engagement of egos.

Chapter 6

Divination and final chakra work

Never treat the Tarot with disrespect, and always thank them before the
final shuffle. Leaving a Tarot reading open, or lying out, will leave the
reader connected. It is unwise to do this for very long. There are many
forms and sorts of magic that can be greatly improvised, however, there are
certain aspects of the Tarot that must be done as described. The following is
a set of instructions that were given to me. Act on them for results.

Preparing and working with the Tarot

This will be a mojo bag used to house both your tarot cards and any
associated spirits. These are very mature sorts of spirits and not to be trifled
with. The contents can be themed to taste but vary from this at your own
peril. 4 Leaf Clovers (gleaned), Purple clover (optional), Mugwort,
Amethyst, 1 or more of your hairs, and Fluorite. Take the bag and its
content with you everywhere you can. Sleep with it near your head. Take
them with you while foraging for clovers. Leave the 4 leaf clovers found
elsewhere until later.
Shuffle your cards thoroughly, and then divide them into sets of 7. Tear
out a page from your journal, and use it to make paper strips. Use these as
the placeholders and dividers. It’s fine to have one partition that isn’t
exactly 7 cards.
Do not try to use the cards otherwise during this time. Go through a
section of cards each day, immediately after returning home for the day.
You want to make certain that you are done with everything for the day, and
have no intention of further venturing out.
Jot down your first impressions in a journal. Do not think very hard on
the meanings. Write down the first things that come to mind. Do this at
roughly the same time every day if you can. Try to introduce them to dice
rolls, or games of chance, during the first week. Roll some yourself for no
other purpose, if games of chance aren’t available. A 20 sided dice is highly
recommended.
The day you run out of cards shuffle them again thoroughly. Sort them
out again into sets of 7 and give the bag 4 leaf clovers if you haven’t. Go
through a section every day as before but make these changes. Set aside
time to briefly meditate or otherwise leave the day behind, before working
with the cards. Spend some time looking at the various symbols, and
features, on the cards this time. Write down what you think each card
means, after giving it some thought.
One night you will run out of cards for the final time. Leave the cards
once again by the side of your bed, and go about your day as you normally
would. The following night do one of these things. Use purple smoke from
earlier lessons to breathe life into your cards, or leave them out under the
moon and collect at dawn. You may now begin working with the Tarot after
a final and thorough shuffle.
To do a simple reading use the following sequence. Try to find the card
that best represents the individual in question. Shuffle the cards once to
clear them, of anything left over from before, after placing the individual’s
card randomly back in the deck. Later on when you are comfortable skip
directly to the clearing shuffle. You’ll come to recognize the proper card to
draw, for the individual or situation in question, as you thumb through the
deck.
Envision the situation, or person, in your mind. Ask the Tarot to show
you and then proceed. Shuffle and cut the cards 3 times. Use your dominant
hand while cutting them into 3 piles from right to left after each shuffle. It is
unwise to try for a certain number of cards while cutting, or dwell on
anything besides the requested information. Anything you have done that
causes the cards to cling together like static is not good. It seems to wear off
but there is nothing handier than a working set of these cards. Do not fry
them.
There are many spreads you can use but the Celtic Cross is a good place
to start. These instructions are for the Rider Waite decks. Lay the cards out
in this order. The card you chose to represent the individual goes down first
(1), the next card covers this one (2), the next card crosses (3), the next card
is beneath (4), the next card is behind (5), the next card is above (6) and
next card is before (7). In a column out to the right lay down cards, from
bottom to top, in this order. These are his or her fears (8), hopes (9), these
are the opinions of others (10), and this is final outcome (11).
A detailed companion book will give you a reference to check against
and serve as part of the anchoring item set. The Complete Guide to the Tarot
by Eden Gray has proven irreplaceable.
Check your thoughts on the card meanings from earlier against this
book. A gifted psychic will of gotten the gist of all of them without aid. It
shouldn’t matter what you use to decipher them in theory, and you shouldn’t
need a book for them to work at all. Most opt for some sort of companion
material however.
Do not discard or neglect your journal work. Books cannot replace
diligence, field testing, and observation. The proof is in the pudding after all
and only by working with the Tarot will you weave it into your life.
Training yourself horribly during this period cannot be reversed. Once you
start to attribute certain meanings, and form certain links, with your Tarot
cards they are very hard to alter. Sometimes nothing is a better companion
than the alternative. Ignoring the traditional explanations, and underlying
symbolism, will however leave you awkward later on. That said your own
psyche, and subconscious pathways, will still serve you far better than an
internet search for card meanings.
There is no magical number of days that should pass between readings.
During times of intensity the cards are often read multiple times in a sitting.
Continue to write your findings in a journal for at least a few weeks.

Opening Chakras
Damaged chakras can happen but this is so strange, and varied in
representation, that describing how to remedy it would leave nothing of use.
Meditation, energy work, and the experience of your guides, are often a
boon. Following along in this book up to this point should have remedied,
or at least made apparent such ailments. If what you are doing causes
physical pain at a chakra point cease working with it immediately. Be kind
to yourself and rest, gentleness is the only cure.
You should be able to feel a sensation as you move your fingers above
the surface of your hand. Practice working with energy until you can feel
this as a focused point that you can move around your hand. Hold your
hand flat, and move this point of energy in a loop in the shape of the infinity
symbol a few times. Do this for each hand. You have now properly opened
your hand chakras for certain. The ability to manifest a form of this
sensation was the subject of an earlier chapter. Working with this point of
focus, or field at various points around the body, prepares both you and it
for the following work.

Create a focus object

Acquire a rough amethyst about the size of a lighter. Simply meditate
with it for a time. You will start to feel its energy. Hold it in your dominant
hand and “point” the other at it. This will create a focus object.
Alternatively you can leave it out under the moonlight to charge instead.
Leaving this newly created tool on top of your tarot bag is recommended.
They form as a set.

Opening the gates

Lay on your back. Take your focus object, and place it at your root
chakra, after calling energy to your hand. Envision each chakra as you cross
over it, while the energy point moves slowly up your spine. While this is
happening your back should arch, and you should lose control. When this is
done your chakras will be opened. Your base and crown open on their own
as the breeze of the spirit blows in and out.
This is an incredibly powerful experience and should not be taken
lightly. I am not well versed in the more traditional ways of doing this,
having run across it quite by accident. It does however very much appear;
that what is experienced by doing this, is very much akin to a Kundalini
awakening.

To empower your third eye

Hold both of your hands out flat, with a focus object in one of them,
until the energy fits you like dish gloves. Meditate while doing this and then
move the energy, while meditating on the breath, to the desired chakra. Let
the sensation settle on your third eye and relax. Do not fear or fight. What
you see is your birthright. Welcome home.

Deja Vu
Deja vu has three forms. The first is the result of psychic static, where
the infinite number of eventualities, just happen to unfold before you in a
familiar order. The second occurs when you witness events unfolding you
had previously witnessed in a dream or vision. The third occurs when you
come out of sync with the reality you currently inhabit. Your body, during
your time on earth, serves as your anchor and base. The usual goal is to
shift your life down a preferred path, or series of outcomes, not to be
fractured, and lost adrift between parallel seas.
To try and correct this do something totally random right after déjà vu,
try snapping, doing a little dance, or, bringing your hands together over
your head with a clap. Practice grounding, and lay off of spell work for a
few days, should this become problematic. Should you get caught in a loop
of this, cease all spell work immediately, relax, and ground through the
natural earth. Do not push yourself until you are well past healed. In the
case that the cause is another witch seek help if you can. Covens and clicks
are all fine and good but not all have your best interest in mind. That said
not being paranoid comes into play here again.

Sleep
Sleep is a regenerative time for the human body and mind. It is the
single most important aspect of your living vessel. It sequences your
biological clock, and cleanses the mind of toxins that have built up during
the day. Getting less than 6 straight hours of sleep a night immediately
begins to degrade and damage your brain. Short term these effects can be
shrugged off. Extending this for more than a short time will however have
serious and dire effects on all facets of your wellbeing. Those in good
health, and not affected by sickness or injury, are recommended to get
between 7 and 9 hours of sleep a night. During times of injury or stress
more is beneficial. You can also sleep in a series of 3 hour long naps. This
however tends to be highly disruptive to other facets of life and is not
recommended.

Final retreats
Enter into the weekend of retreat with the intent of setting out onto a
new path or branch of your life. The night before should be spent so that
you stay awake until at least 4 a.m. Spend this time doing whatever it is
you’ve found in your life that you can stay awake doing. Video games and
tech junkie activities work well. Ideally you’ll stay awake all night and well
into the next day. The following afternoon go and find a green space. Parks
will work but the more natural the better. A clover field with trees is ideal.
It is ok for people to be around while you are doing this. The less you have
to explain yourself the better however. The sunlight is important, and you
would do well to leave before dark. Take heart and do not fear no matter
what you see. Searching for 4 leaf clovers, or other magical objects, during
this outing is certainly a plus.
The next time you have available repeat the disruption in sleep schedule
like before. Walk this time a decent distance, to a place you feel
comfortable with. Drink coffee if you need to so you don’t pass out. Sit in
the shade or inside, where the sunlight can reach you. Meditate on the
breath, and the nothing, at your soul chakra. The old Zen masters would see
spirits, and white smoke, while off in a waking dream, after years of
meditating. This can’t be promised as a result of this experience but it
certainly isn’t ruled out.

Entheogens and herbs

As with the dream sigils from before the intent entering into a trip is
key. The same premise applies here directly, if you are searching for
something specific. If you wish to meet a god simply ingrain this intent into
your trip before, and during, the come up. Over time one learns to aim for
the desired result or location. Such aids are certainly not required, but they
can greatly help the young shaman along. Most hold other psychological
benefits as well.
Besides set and setting, certain aids seem to pipe through to different
tints of perspective. The long and varied list of substances will not be listed
and reviewed here. Just know that if you are going to go out to make sure
you choose the right ship.
Ego death is something that has been the topic of countless scholars.
This can easily be done substance free through meditation. Doing so in this
fashion is akin to taking a canoe, and gliding out into a lake. Psychedelics,
and other substances, are like being blown out of your skin face first into
said lake. In the end you still end up in the lake at some point.

Crystal ball or scrying orb ritual

Black obsidian, quartz, various crystals, and bowls of water are
common tools. The following details, and ritual, should be applicable to all.
The more transparent the material, the more common gazing with the low
eyes seems to be.
Burn white sage and hold the object in the smoke. Try your best to
blow, or waft, some of the smoke into the orb, or object, and intend it to be
made clear.
Adlib or write down some sort of dedication related to the object’s
purpose. Something to the effect of “To bring clarity and enhancement to
psychic sight, may we work together gazing into the night. Bring purity in
communion with those invited near, that we may grow and commune
without undue fear.” should suffice. Amethyst gem oils should be rubbed
around the object, and then lightly spat upon. Rub this in entirely with some
sort of cloth, and leave it in your bedroom. Having this object a place at
your altar space is highly recommended.
Lay on the ground, with the object resting comfortably in your hands,
and gaze into it. You need to keep your focus, or you will drift off, but too
much attention will interfere. Alternate doing this with just relaxing with
the object near your forehead. Eyes closed and relaxed. Let the images drift
through the stillness of your mind.
Best results come if you are well practiced with the mind’s eye
beforehand, and use the scrying object simply to give a boost to focus. Once
adjusted the steadiness and clarity are second to none.

Chapter 7

Casting a circle and complex magic

Magic of a certain sort very much reflects the principle of the butterfly
effect. Some people are better at flapping their wings, to this effect, than
others. Some started to use the wind itself instead of their tiny wings.

Avoiding failure and unfortunate results

If you lust for the results they will not manifest until you stop. If you
continue to lust you will weaken the magic, and it will continue to fail. This
failure will cause you to doubt its effectiveness, thus causing further failure.
This negative feedback loop has been, at least for me, the most common
detriment. The more important or dire the situation, the more you will wish
to see your spell manifest. Don’t fall into this pit. Don’t tell others until the
spell has run its course, if at all. Silence is golden.
Using negatives in spell work seems to cause them to fail reliably.
Adding can’t, shall not, or won’t, will fizzle your spells without fail. The
other trick seems to be finding the trough, between being overly specific
and dangerously vague. Blue and calm are very easy concepts to work with,
and disastrous result difficult to obtain. This is why they showed up earlier
in this book. This chapter, after again touching on such magic in greater
detail, will dive into wanting a specific event, or object, to take place.
The odds of winning the lottery are astronomical. The odds of
increasing tips at work, getting a new job, or aiding someone’s health, are
however literally up in the air. Just because something is said to be
impossible, has hardly stopped any of us before. I’ve never tried to win the
lottery. I have however grown fingertips back, and done countless other
things that are clearly impossible. If it was easy it would hardly be worth
using magic for. Do not sell yourself short, because you are all that is
holding you back in the end.
I have never been able to get dates and times to work. Trying to
summon a salmon sandwich on a specific Tuesday, at a specific time, will
likely only get you hit by a bus. All of this isn’t to say results can’t be
managed in various ways, to manifest in an eerily timely manner. Just don’t
make the universe cranky in your pursuits. The other side of this coin is just
hoping you get your wish, or spell, at some point in all of your lives. I have
literally heard people say these words and, as you might imagine, they get
very little they want. Should it take you 500 years to get a discounted bus
ticket, you might as of well just walked and saved yourself the time. The
other unfortunate side effect of this attitude is it makes for truly awful
occult science. If you can’t use the results to further your science, you
might as well go play golf. Don’t fence yourself in but if three or so months
have gone by, and you’ve gotten nothing back, you might want to
reconsider whatever it is you’ve done. The longest a spell ever took to get
back to me was 3 years; this was when I was rather new to things of course.
It has however since become a much tidier affair. These were during my
discordian years you see and I didn’t have the advantage of such a fine
book.
A nonchalant attitude towards timing may very well leave you, and your
spell work, randomly attuned to the rhythms of the entire cosmos. Do not
consider yourself bound entirely by such forces however. This attitude also
leaves one just as well off outside playing golf. Why bother dabbling with
fate, and fortunes, if you just consider yourself a slave to the whims of the
universe? Take care not to clutter the mind. What is just as well isn’t, given
the proper state of mind and circumstances.

Casting a spell on the go

Some of this has been covered in parts throughout the book. This will
draw it all together for a final example that can be quick casted, without the
aid of anything external, while being quite formidable.
Trace a pentagram, or briefly meditate on the 4 elements. Combine the
two if it pleases you. This is the point where your work turns into art.
Envision, and encapsulate, someone that needs a little tranquility in a
blue orb. This is the aura spell from earlier. The intent here is conveyed by
the color, combined with your force of will. It is obviously your will for this
to be happening, or you wouldn’t be doing it, so stop worrying about that
part of it. Just let everything flow.
Form a ball of blue energy between your hands left over right. Draw the
vision of your aura spell down into this blue sphere, and then, hold it there
while you charging this energy. Use whatever method you’ve come to
prefer.
Release the energy up and out above your head, with your hands
slightly separated by a two or three inch margin. Let your elbows rest
naturally on the sides of your ribs. To many it will look as if you are almost
praying. This represents the walls of the pillar, through which the energy
travels up and out. Your hands have now become the candle.
This simple sort of spell will manifest almost instantly. It will already be
starting to take effect before you are even done. Decent results without fully
casting it occur. however, the deeper you go, and the more care you take,
the more profound and certain the results. This allows the adept to deal with
situations in a powerful manner, while needing only to step around the
corner.

Spell timing
A spell going off at a certain time, or event, has proven a tricky knack to
master. Numbers, dates, and days, seem to yield only failure, these being
placed firmly under “overly specific”. How then does the adept yield timely
results? The answer is simply working around this limitation. The methods
I have found for this are twofold. Manifesting at a certain event, that will
take place in the future, via foresight, or using objects to aid.
Again before proceeding with this make very sure of your wishes since
interrupting this sort of magic ranges from impossible to disastrous. If you
have any sort of foresight you can set your spell to trigger upon an
upcoming event. It will however also have residual effects, up until that
event takes place. Should there be delays you will be able to feel the spell
stretching thin.
The reverse of this is to aim for the end result, of a far reaching event,
that will play out over a long period of time. Only one of these helps with
your timing, but the risk of being spread thin, like jam on bread, may hold
true for both.
Candles work wonders when a certain time frame is of concern. Bring a
spell down into a quick burning candle, for it to last over the course of a
few days. Small quick burning candles will give you a simple pop, with a
short duration. Longer burning candles, and candles made with care, will
bring you more reliable results, over a longer period of time. Cheap 7 day
candles from any random shop will do as long as they are blank. Using the
method from earlier to craft your own candles will give you one that burns
for roughly 3 days. Either of these will spill out into your week. The same
rules apply here as elsewhere.
Many witches have burned down their shops and abodes doing this sort
of thing. I cannot stress enough how important safety is when working with
open flames. Most of us are routinely singed and covered with wax. Do not
lose your favorite hairs, furnishings, or abodes, to the flames. The irony
alone is bad enough, never mind the resulting losses.

Ritual space and The Circle

Any sort of magic or spell works in the place of the circle. This is to say
that anything you bring with you, or release while in this place, has a
chance to be cast as well. It is of grave importance that you enter into
serious and more grandiose magic, with a relaxed and focused mind.
If you go far enough out, out past the black, and then out again, the
black becomes like an eardrum and you the only sound in existence.
Find a ritual space and keep it clear and clean, always uncluttered and
treated with the utmost respect. This space should be either outside, in a
natural space, or inside near your altar. If you are the indoor sort, a circular
rug with around a 6 foot radius seems to do quite nicely. It can be quite
discreet if you are so inclined as well. Obviously this should be modified
significantly if done in an outdoor space. As with all things in this book, it
must be made your own for the best results.

Preparation
Meditate on the nothing of your choice, and then purify an offering of
herbs to bring with you. Purify and prepare also a stick of incense to be
burnt as air. Purify only the incense and offering to be burnt.
Prepare also in advance a small glass of holy water. You will also need a
good solid rock from nature for earth, a stick of incense, and a burner, for
air, a jar, bowl, or chalice, for water and a well contained red candle for fire.
I put some water in a mason jar for water, and keep all of these objects on
my altar as part of it. This has worked out extremely well, but you should
use whatever suits you.
The basics of your ritual, and spell work, should be well thought and
planned out beforehand. The old adage of taking great care in what you
wish for certainly applies. All the magical workings described earlier will
be given much clarity, and power, by using this ancient right. Errant
thoughts, and energies, brought with you to this place may manifest along
with your spell. It is highly advisable that you perform the campfire, and
white energy exercises, from chapter two before proceeding. If you ever get
into serious spiritual trouble, flee into the circle and follow your intuition.
The true teachers of our kind will see you clearly there and likely offer aid.

Opening the Circle

Pour holy water clockwise around the edge of the circle, taking care to
tread on it with bare feet. Start at the north point. You don’t have to walk a
balance beam, but it should dampen the bottom of your feet. Do your best
to visualize a glowing blue ward forming, as you pour and walk.
Gather all of your objects up and place them in the center. Some sort of
timer, your spell book, and perhaps journal, should be brought with you as
well. You’ll also need a lighter and a salt shaker. If you forget something
nearby you can grab it, but you should do your best to visualize passing in
and out of the barrier when doing so.
Sit near the center and place Earth to the North, Air to the East, Fire to
the South and Water to the West. These directions vary depending on the
region. I have mostly mountain ranges for entire continents to the North of
me, and nothing but warm continents and islands to the South.
Envision whatever has come to represent earth during your meditations,
coming to your rock as you put it down. Do the same as you place the other
elements.
Take the rock once around the circle clockwise saying something like “I
call upon the element of Earth, rock, and tree to stabilize and strengthen this
circle and working”.
Light the incense of Air on fire, while on the ground, and then pick it
up. Blow it out properly to set it to smoldering, while beginning to walk
clockwise around the circle. Say something to the effect of “I call upon the
element of Air, wind, and breath to breathe life into this circle and
working”.
Light the candle of Fire. Pick it up and walk clockwise around the circle
saying something like “I call upon the element of Fire and flux to bring
energy, and renewal, into this circle and working”.
Pick up The vessel of Water. Take it around the circle clockwise saying
something like “I call upon the element of Water, and cleansing, to bring
serenity, and purity into this circle and working”.
Return to the center and pick up the salt. Take it around the circle
clockwise, shaking salt behind you as you go. Recite something to the effect
of “I invite all forces friendly to me to cleanse this circle of disruptive
things”. If you have any entities or deities that you are familiar with, ask
that they journey with and aid your here as well.
Return to the center and then, starting at Earth, walk around the circle
three times saying something like “I cast this circle thrice about to keep
unwelcome forces out!” Return once again to the center facing east, and
then kneel with your hands on the ground saying “I conjure thee O circle of
power. That thou be a meeting place of all that is and isn’t. A nexus of light
and dark, between where all worlds part. A shield against mal intent, and
forces on my harm bent. A rampart and protection that shall persevere, to
contain and amplify the powers that rise here.”
Your circle is now complete. Invite anyone, or thing, you wish to work
with into your circle. It is then prudent to burn your offering in thanks to the
forces, and powers, that have responded to your call. I personally place
white pentagrams forming a little cube with the top open at this point, and
offer my working as a sort of offering to the horned god. Do what thou will.

Closing the Circle

Bid the element of Earth to depart in peace, see it go. Do this for the
remaining elements. Feel free to extinguish the candle afterwards, but
otherwise continue on. You should be able to do this without standing up.
Bid the beings and powers of the visible and invisible to depart in peace.
Finish by bidding something along the lines “that you forever be as friends
and helpers, so mote it be”.
Stand now and recite something to the effect of “I close this circle the
working complete”. Start at the North and begin to walk counter clockwise,
while recalling the blue the glowing blue ward from earlier into your hand,
or fingers. While walking chant something to the effect of “The circle is
closed yet still remains, I recall it’s powers back to whence they came!”. As
you round back to Earth, or North, you should just be finishing the words,
and recalling the blue ward. I point with my index and ring finger, recalling
the warding to the tips. When the last word is spoken and the ward is drawn
up, place your fingers to your third eye. Immediately return to the center
and bring your palm, or palms, down at the center of the circle. The energy
should be dispersed down, and out, in whatever fashion presents itself.
Desiring this to happen will block the energy discharge. The energy must be
discharged!

Words of power
Create a rough draft. Dwell on it and revise it, over the course of a few
days, leading up to when you intend to perform your ritual. You are
applying both energy in various forms and intent. These are the two key
ingredients to magical workings. Doing this will lay down the pathwork,
and further empower your working. This is akin to walking through tall
grass, until a path emerges. Writing such things down will sometimes
manifest results, even if you never finish the rest of this process.
It is highly recommended that you use your journal for the rough draft.
Write down the finalized spell, detailed description, and instructions. Do
this, and the rest of the following, in all capital letters. Use at least a fresh
page, and separate note book entirely if you can. This will separate your
daily notes, concepts, and musings from finalized spells.
Define and refine it further from here. You will probably find something
you missed. When you are satisfied it’s time to create a word of power.
Scratch through any letters that are repeated. Take these letters and write
them down, again in all caps. Form these letters into finalized phrases on
the bottom corner. This is so you can easily tear it off later. If you need an
extra vowel or two add them without concern. Sometimes this is needed to
make the words pronounceable.
Words, or phrases, that are too easily recognizable should be rearranged
until illegible. Try switching the first and last letters of the words around to
see if that is enough. You want all of this to pass through your
subconscious, to deliver the spell to the universe at large. Your conscious
attention, and recognition, directly interferes with this. This all goes back to
the original paradox of entry into the occult.
I personally spit on the page at this point, and let it dry out as I’m
casting my circle. I have found both blood and hair to serve as excellent
markers for links, should you have a recipient in mind. Objects with
sentimental value will work in a pinch. All of this is done through intention
in the end. That is to say you don’t need any objects to form links at all, but
that is sometimes not the boon you would assume. What matters in the end
is that you are satisfied. Cast your circle having made all suitable
preparations.
Read the entire thing out loud. Attempt to draw down the energy, vision,
or what have you, into the word at the bottom corner.
Tear the words off from the corner of the page, and proceed to chant
them. Try to charge this piece of paper for at least 45 minutes, in whatever
ways you find effective. Chanting this word as a mantra, with a blank mind,
yields remarkable effects. Do not fight the visions that come to your mind.
Simply chant the mantra and be.
Close the circle and then, after all is said and done, set the strip on fire.
Let it burn as entirely as can be managed.
A boon of this sort of subconscious magic is that the intent is drawn on
during the entire process. The energy required is unavoidable, and inherent
in the process, as well. The finer details of how, and what, exactly it is you
hope to come to pass can be left open. This means, in short, that the magus
needs only to stay out of his own way for what is essentially a wish to
manifest.
Adding that no harm comes is senseless. Is your intent to manifest
harm? It’s your spell after all. The previous statement about having an open
avenue for manifestation still applies but, if you’ve done well, clutter is
clutter. That said wishing for an early inheritance is likely to only come
through so many channels. Most such channels involve someone’s
misfortune. Many seek wisdom before any other wish for such reasons as
this. Proceed gently and with care.

Constructs
All of the work is to be literally written down, and read aloud later, at
the time of casting. Due to the complexity of this magic a brief overview
will be given of the process, with a more detailed casting aid to follow.
Some explanations may be repeated, better a little redundancy in
explanation than failure.
The name is simple and has no further explanation. It should be related
to the form and function. This is what is to be written down, after being
garbled up, at the bottom corner. Come up with the name first, and garble it
up last. This is the same as the word of power. The word is the capsule that
will deliver the entity into forever.
The energy cords, and accompanying text, should be written down in
their entirety.
For example, you would write down on the page “gold” followed by
why and what, the purpose and meaning, of the gold was and is. Down well
below all of this instructional text you would have the outline drawn of the
cords themselves. Chiefly in this example a line, or lines, with the symbolic
annotation for the color gold, this golden cord being one cord of many.
These cords thus make up its general shape, or frame.
Having written any such notation outside of the structural lines, you
would then read aloud what you wrote down, as explanation at the time of
its birth. This is so that the newly formed entity understands its makeup.
This is so that it knows what you do in regards to its purpose, and in regards
to its function. Do the same for any herbs used. Do the same for any stones.
The following are the detailed instructions for creating a talisman, or
servitor, or spirit. Be sure to phrase what you read to your creation, as if you
were reading it out loud to someone. “Your vessel is”, “you draw power
from and inspiration from”, “your purpose is”, “your lifespan is” “your
source of energy is”. Literally read these things aloud to your newly created
spirit, at the appropriate time. This is only an example.
Name: Should be the sum of what it does combined with its form. This
should be written in all capital letters. For this example it would be
GOLDEN PROSPERITY GOPHER
Energy cords: Gold for prosperity, purple and silver for the ability to
influence others smoothly, black and white for the source of energy. It helps
greatly to form these into a rough outline, of something that makes sense to
you as representation. What type of thing, or energies, would be suited for
the task at hand? Where would its core, or center, be? With all of this in
mind draw a frame made of crude, simple lines.
Vessel: A stone and mojo bag full of herbs. This should be viewed as
it’s heart and body respectively. That is to say the stone is its heart, or core,
and the bag and assorted contents it’s body. Instruct it to draw upon them
both for instructions and power.
If you followed the directions, and created a fetish properly, you’ve
already done this to an extent. Adding what you have learned here will
make your work permanent, incredibly powerful, crystal clear, and sentient.
Source of energy: This should already be reflected in its energy cords. It
could be shadows or the sun. It could be heat, life, or love. It’s written here
again because its source of energy needs to be entirely clear and precisely
stated. Just because you created it out of infinity doesn’t mean it won’t use
shadows, or the sun, to replenish itself. Moonstones would use moonlight,
citrines and cinnamon the sun. Make sure it never grows hungry or thirsty
for energy.
Purpose: This is to be read aloud and explicitly states its purpose.
Leaving a new entity to work out on its own, exactly what it is you want
from it, is generally ill advised. In this instance it would be something along
the lines of “to bring prosperity and fortune”. That the fortune is good is, in
this case, already ingrained, implied, and clearly intended. Again write this
down in all caps. I am generally bound by the English language as an
author. Magic certainly is not.
Lifespan: I make all of mine eternal. Care should be taken however that
you are not swarmed by your own creations turned feral. It should be noted
that I personally have no idea how to get rid of these.

Cast your circle having made all suitable preparations

Envision the energy strands in your mind’s eye. See these strands then
take whatever final form you have chosen for it. Think of this as going from
a wire frame of a moth into an actual moth. I would not use more than a
handful of cords at most, to avoid over complication.
Breathe purple smoke into it, or otherwise try to bring the new entity to
life. See life energy flow into the construct. Immediately after it animates
read its name, and then the entire page you have written, out loud to it.
Include where it is to draw its power and inspiration from. Its purpose, its
vessel, It’s lifespan all of the instructions you have written down. Envision
its purpose and how it will go about achieving it as you finish.
Draw down this vision into the construct, and then draw this entire
concept down into your word of power. Tear this word of power off from
the corner of the page. Proceed to chant and try to charge this piece of paper
for at least 45 minutes. Hold both the pouch and the paper in the same hand
and point at it as you learned to do with objects before. Chanting this word
as a mantra, with a blank mind, yields remarkable effects. Do not fight the
visions that come to your mind. Simply chant the mantra and be. Once the
visions seems to of died down shift your focus from the written word, and
the pouch, to meditate entirely on the mantra. Let them fall from your mind.
When you are done, close the circle as you normally would. Take the
torn paper, with its word of power turned name, and burn it. To interface, or
reactivate, simply interact with it like you would any stone or focus object.
Try quietly chanting its name, while rotating your fingers above it in a
clockwise motion. If it is sun oriented do this first thing in the morning, or
under sunlight. Do the same around midnight, or under moonlight, if its
nature reflects the moon.
It should also be noted here that while the rest of the magic will simply
fizzle, or go wrong, if you dwell on it this magic will shred your mind and
then fail. There seems to be a rough gestation period of three days, before
the newly formed construct can be interacted with safely. You are giving
spiritual birth to the construct over this period. You should relax, and divert
your mind, as much as possible, after casting this sort of spell. Do not fight
the reverberations. Simply let them pass. You should rest until you are sure
this time period has passed.

Magic words as spell triggers

This is towards the end of the book because I feel this is the most
dangerous sort of magic. The risks of falling prey to compulsion, or simply
shattering the mind, is both very real and great indeed. There are no barriers
and there is now way back. If you have become adept at influencing auras,
working with mantras, and words of power, it is time to put them all
together.
Over time I started many of my mantras the same way with “May all”.
This commonly broke down into “mal” because I always needed the y
elsewhere. I used that as the trigger for the sequence, having often started
off many mantras in such a way. Each word set used that as the starting
trigger. Variations of the second desired word were adlibbed, and garbled a
bit, until the appropriate sequence was derived. The sequence was deemed
appropriate because of the ensuing results. This is akin to using your hands
as the candle from earlier, but now you are skipping both the spell and the
candle. Change up using “may all” at some point for the rest of your work
or you’ll grow stale. This is a means to a state of mind, and truly instant and
flowing magic. As with all things this is merely a stepping stone.
This is an example in tranquility. When I said the words “mal
tranquilus” while intending a target their aura turned blue, and they were
affected by the spell as per normal. You will have to find what will work for
you, and these words must be your own. This can be mixed with whatever
gestures, or hand positions, come most naturally to you.
It should be noted that if you precede further your moods, and words,
may start to affect you, and those in your surroundings, in extremely
abnormal ways. A bad day at the office, or a fight with a loved one, can
bring about extreme hardships. Eventually people may even be able to feel
your glare through walls. Over time you will grow into a localized force of
nature, a living thing.

Chapter 8

Defensive magic and concepts

No matter how gentle, or kind spirited, you are there will always be
those people on this earth that simply are not. The most common
manifestation of this you will encounter will be simple energy vampires, or
horrible mundanes that cling to your life and energy. The concepts already
expressed will easily fend off the hollow or needy. Sometimes however
you’ll run into a hostile, vicious, and persistent dark witch.
The worst of these are powerful psychics and entirely vampiric in
nature. They care only about power, and the world bowing to their egos. It
will likely come down to you to put such a creature in its place, at some
point on your journey. Doing so will force you to combine everything in
this book. It won’t save you from everyone but combinations thrown
together, with a cunning scramble, will send all but the foulest spirits on
their way. I am bound by no morals, and neither should you be, if you are in
a fight for your life. Show no pity for a true enemy, or you will be
devoured. That said do not go looking for trouble, or meddle needlessly in
the affairs of others. Life on earth will lend you plenty of trouble own its
own, and most of the witchy sort tend to give each other clear space.
First of all there are certain things you should never do. These will
leave you open to anyone that happens by in a very powerful way.
Do not give out your true name or that of your spirits. These names
have nearly total power over those they are called by. Obviously gods aren’t
going to be bound to do someone’s bidding, but you are responsible for
these links, if you give them out. Should you betray the trust of a god they
will come find you. Common names are ok to use for most spirits, but even
some of those prefer to only be found on purpose.
Do not allow anyone that you don’t trust with your soul to hold your
objects of power, talismans, or gems. Do not let anyone see or handle your
scrying objects if you have them.
Do not tell anyone if you are casting a spell involving them, their
knowledge will cause interference. This is ok to do if you feel you morally
must, or think they would be more of a help than a hindrance, but magic is
very touchy. A novice witch lusting for results, or obsessing over things,
will likely disrupt your spellwork.
Energy work is another matter entirely. It works best with the
acceptance, and aid, of the recipient. Group rituals are obviously another
matter as well, but that is beyond the scope of this book. To my knowledge
these are the only exceptions to the golden rule of silence.
Do not leave people your hair, blood, or spit. I don’t know why you
would do this but don’t. Do not accept gifts from enemies. They are using
them to gain entry into your defenses. This will allow them to easily leech
your fortunes, and energies, away through them.
If you ever encounter someone that insist on leaving random things all
over your house, or that tries to sneak things into your life or home,
consider them a lethal threat. Take all necessary measures to rid yourself of
them. Use discretion here of course, but generally anyone that would
disrespect or defile your house, will bring you nothing but harm. Use your
head but again don’t fall prey to fear or paranoia. Very few people will ever
go through the trouble of bothering you in such a way. Very few people are
able. It’s just a likely to be a token of affection as anything else but if you
exist so do others, if you generally mean well some others will therefore
not. Would you let a dark spirit force its way into your life? Would you let a
dark spirit weave anchors and gateways into your bedroom? Waste no pity
on those that would, or those that would do the same to you.
Experienced witches can use anything from a penny to a mere whim. I
literally had someone once repay me with cursed deer meat. They then
proceeded to try and summon a dark goddess to defile my entire dwelling.
Don’t fall prey to paranoia but at the same time never underestimate the
potential depravity of human beings. Anyone, or thing, that would repay
your kindness with misery should be cast out of your life, witch or not.

Reflection
Anything with silver, or mirrors, will work to reflect hostile spells and
energies. That said this will focus on dealing with things in the mind’s eye.
See in your mind a reflective barrier. Generally flat and round will do
the trick, you could however opt for a wall as well. The details, or
reflections, that could be seen in this reflective surface serve only to distract
from the original concept. Over complication hampers your ability to
devote clear intent, and absolute energy. Like the barriers from before this
reflective surface simply is or isn’t, there is no in between.
This can be used on literally anything, ranging from someone’s foul
mood, to various forms of energy and spellwork. This again is mainly
useful for a direct, or positional, source or flow. It won’t do much should
someone decide to cast deep, and subtly alter your fate for example. Unless
you are under threat of physical violence this little trick is immensely
handy.
Caution should be used should you transfer this technique defensively
to your aura. You can use it on yourself, and it will with certainty bend any
energy sent your way around. This also however cuts off your access to all
external direct energies. That is to say your energies no longer go in and out
either.
I have had to use this defensively around myself a few times, and
suffered no ill effects. It can be set to let energy either just in, or just out.
All of this works on others just as well. To lower it simply start with a hole
at the top and draw it downwards, like you would take off a pair of pants, if
pants were a sphere of metallic energy with a hole at the top. Forming the
hole and taking down the sides, should be one fluid movement. It’s your
barrier after all.
If you mean well you should probably just use white for your barriers
and adjustments.
This concept should be used responsibly, but it could certainly save
your life at some point. It should also be noted that other people might be
doing this as well. The end result of two witches bouncing energy back and
forth in such a way, is akin to playing pong with oblivion. Use responsibly
and with due consideration.

Deflection
If a curse is causing you physical pain, transfer it onto someone else you
consider an enemy. Find the curse, that is to say find the point of pain, the
spot that feels most drained, or the weariest. Let this point roll off of your
body, like water off a duck. The moment you feel it start to slide off point
at, and thus send it to, the image of someone or thing else.
Decoys
If you are being haunted by a spirit that you cannot dispel, envision
yourself as a translucent outline, then overlay yourself on top of someone
else you consider an enemy. The more people you do this to at once, the
more effective it will be. Once you have done this for a moment or two
snap, or pop, back to your normal position and self. The decoys follow the
same rules as normal spells, and should be forgotten about immediately
afterwards for best results.

Transmutation
If you are fighting someone that just channels direct energy simply
change it into tranquility. The concept is the exact same, as what you
learned working with the rain in chapter 2. To make a more permanent
solution, create a word of power. Add the intent that your counterspell goes
unnoticed by the aggressor.
A more direct method, if you can see the energy, is as follows. It should
be noted that doing this wrong is not an option. See the pillar, line, or link
that represents this energy to you, as it comes into contact with your aura. A
strongly enforced aura, or intentional shield, will buy you precious time.
Will, or otherwise gesture, directly into the energies path. Push the energy
back, slightly above the point of contact, while transforming the opposing
energy into golden light.
Envision a golden rain of prosperity falling around you, splashing out
from the contact point. This is the newly repurposed energy raining down
prosperity into your life. Hold this contact point until the energy has passed.

Cord cutting
Envision the one causing you trouble and see the strands, strings, or
cords that tie them to your life. Envision wind, fire, or just a sword, as a
solid cutting force. Simply sheer, sear, or otherwise sever, the cords.
Envision the strands coming unfurled. See the flames burning up the cords
all the way back to their source, blown off by a tunnel of wind, or shriveling
up and rolling back.

To avoid someone daily

When you are getting close to where you usually encounter the
individual trace a pentagram in the air and then picture them in your mind’s
eye. Charge up a strong ball of energy, and with all your might, form this
into a narrow tunnel, or tunnels, of gusty wind.
Your target will possibly push back, or simply stand firm. Picture
flinging him, or her, around into whatever surrounding are nearby, where
you usually encounter them. Walls of rooms, cars, and other small areas,
work exceptionally well for this, if however the setting doesn’t provide such
props the ground, or pavement, will do. Fling and bash the target with great
force and speed, so that the motion becomes a fluid blur. Pin the target up
against the object of your choice, with a sustained gale, of strong forceful
winds. See the target clearly blowing with force against the object. See their
clothes rippling in the wind. Casually take a moment to observe the look on
their face. See their hair rippling.
Maintain this gale after softening them up. Proceed as before but this
time keep throwing wind funnels at them and do not stop. They will be
blown off even before all of them land. Continue your assault. Keep hitting
them with wind blast as they sail off. See them jet off into the distance,
getting smaller and smaller. Even if they are out of sight keep launching
gust.
As you launch a final bout scream, howl, grunt, or do whatever you
have to do, to imbue this with your primal force, and everything else you’ve
got. Clear your mind afterwards, forget about them, and go about your day.
To dwell is to undo your fine work. Once you have this worked out you can
drop any noises, or even gestures, and it will still work perfectly well.
Never do this in sight of anyone, for hopefully apparent reasons.
Should you be out in public drop all external indications that you are up
to anything. Once you get the knack for it, the only observable indications
will be you briefly breaking stride. Eventually even this will no longer be
necessary.

Beguiling mist
This example, if followed, will allow you to leave a single person lost in
the mist, should they try to find or affect you astrally. Doing this in such a
way that it only affects a single person, instead of anyone that tries to visit,
takes a delicate knack. Hiding from everyone, and thing, forever is
generally ill advised. This is used when you wish neither harm nor notice.
Such precise and delicate magic is extremely complicated.
Somewhere there is an entry point, gate, or edge, to your sphere of
residual existence. It would seem to be the edge of your natural aura but is
entirely different. The technicalities and representations are moot. What
matters is the concept that you have a gate, or door, and so do others.
See them there and hold them in place with force of will, so they do not
try to escape or interfere. Should you be overly concerned that whoever you
are doing this to will cause substantial problems, you should be using
something less forgiving.
While they are held see the cord, or line, that connects their gate to
yours. Just outside the edge of your personal space envision a cloud of mist,
or grey smoke, at your end of the connection, You want their cord to no
longer connect to your field, or gate, and Instead for their line to end in your
fog. You want it to get close enough for them to think they have succeeded,
but far enough out to avoid clouding yourself. The link was established so
that the fog affects only them and their energies.
The complex nature of this interaction makes it an excellent time to use
a mudra if you have one. This will help take some of the need to focus out
of the complexity. You can, for example, hold them at bay with a hand
gesture, leaving you free to focus on other aspects.

Banishing
Refer to someone by a nickname, mentally or verbally, take care not to
be noticed. This is entirely for your benefit, and should be well established.
All that matters is that this becomes your name for them. Think of it like
naming a chair or a loudly barking dog. You have now given yourself
power over the concept. In this case the concept being an individual.
Create a word of power containing this name, and something to the
effect of “may (name) be bound from harming or harassing me, may they be
cut off and cast out to sea.” Obviously this should be done in the fashion
described for such things, and not copied verbatim. The importance of what
is reiterated here is that you gave this name power, use with care.
Again telling people you are up to such things, or anything at all
generally, can only serve as a disruption. Your magic, and spells, work or
they don’t. If you tell, taunt, or flaunt, things you only complicate the
working. This will leave you open to undue failure, or other outside
interferences. Silence is golden, as are results.

Ice magic
Take your representative object of choice, and bind it to the intended
recipient. Alternatively find the individual, or situation, in your mind. With
this object, or image, in hand find the cold wind with your other hand. Let it
flow across you into the object, mental or otherwise. Should you come by
an actual object, or otherwise create one through binding, you can place this
in an actual freezer, or encase it with ice.

Final thoughts
It should be noted here that I have found certain amounts of misfortune,
and various unpleasant energies, ready allies. Dealing with hostile
situations, and individuals, can be art.
Magic and spells expressly for the purpose of moving someone away, or
out of one’s life, however tend to be far tidier affairs. I doesn’t matter what
someone causing problems does with their life, once they’ve randomly
move to Nebraska for instance.
To heal and to harm is not very far separated. What can bring fortune
and light; can bring hardship and misery if reversed. That isn’t to say
profaned, or defiled, energies and magic will get you very far. It’s simply to
say most coins have two sides. Which coins are chosen, and which sides
preferred, separates the wise men and miracle workers, from the defilers
and fools.
There is much in this last chapter that isn’t specifically said. Once you
start working with all of this, in a real and consistent manner, you will start
putting things together. An organic ebb and flow will emerge all its own.
The true power in this book lies in what comes when this happens. When
you become the candle and the canvas becomes your life.
This emergent expression, and creative blending of concepts and
techniques, is what gives rise to the unique personal expression referenced
throughout this book. The true path to power is found only from within.
Magic and the magus thus both spring to life together coherent and bound
forevermore.
Chapter 9

Theories and warnings

Old souls
Everyone is immortal, some are just better at it than others. Some come
to realize this in various ways throughout their lives, and apply it directly to
themselves. The more lives one spends attentive to their energies, the more
stays with you from life to life.
You could certainly project yourself into a bad corner of reality,
becoming lodged there for a great many lives. The knowledge, and
experience, such a journey would however require, would entail many lives.
These lives would need to be lived mostly polarized, with many other
options presented along the way. To end up truly foul is a conscious choice
that spans lifetimes. Each life, while tinted by the ones before, is a chance
to alter the course of one’s overarching fates.

The fabric of reality and beyond

Various planes, like light coming through a prism, are overlaid across
our perceivable reality.
Below is everything that ever has been, or will be. It is outside of the
influence of time. However, nothing there truly exists on its own. For
reality to remain comprehensible everything can simply not exist at once.
Think of this place as the membrane through which the dreams that make
up what is are given birth. This forms the skin that surrounds fully realized,
or birthed, life.
Above is everything that is. The energy that supports the skin formed
from below. Without this everything would simply remain a concept, and
nothing would be able to exist at all. All would simply remain an insolvent
dream, an echo of shadow lost without the ability to manifest, having no
contours of comparison to be perceived against.
These two concepts represent the positive and negative poles of infinity,
which lie beneath the surface of the eternal cosmic dance that is the
universe. Neither is good, neither is evil, they simply are.
Beyond this polarity is the complexity of the elements, the colors and
hues that tint and flavor the experiences of the aforementioned realized
existences. The warmth and colors of the stars, the greens of the leaves and
grass, the sensations of the breeze, the solarwinds, life and death, love and
nature, all exist as imbued overlapping patterns. Patterns overlaid thus
across the very skin of reality itself that forms the boundaries of our
perceived existences.

Spell difficulty
It should be noted that as you advance ease and reliability will as well.
This book, as I said at the onset, is laid out as it is for a reason. The more at
ease you become, and the more your confidence builds, the fewer
restrictions will seemingly hold true.
Modifying yourself is the easiest. Examples would be casting a spell to
gain confidence for a job interview, or using a sigil to help you remember
your dreams that night.
Modifying your situation is usually a tad more finicky. Examples would
be manifesting a new job, or an unknown lover. Modifying the luck, or state
of a specific person, had proven more difficult still. The difficulty generally
isn’t due to a question of power, but rather, that magic seems to manifest
most reliably within a certain channel of parameters. Turning a rock into
gold is certainly beyond me, however finding a gold rock is certainly not.
Skipping the rock entirely, and just aiming for the desired result, has proven
most satisfactory. Piles of rocks are quite heavy after all.
The more finessed, and refined, a spell becomes the more talent is
required on the part of the practitioner. This is further complicated because
even the slightest doubt will weaken the working, and thus the reliability of
results.
If you are too specific you will surely send your spell astray. If you are
too vague the spell will often ruin your life. However living in fear and
safety will not get you far. Finding the center between light and dark,
Wisdom and foolishness, a disconnected existence and a gaping heart, are
solved by being centered. This is the advantage of the Taoist, Buddhist, and
others, that have found the nothing before finding the start. Only in the
silence can one begin to truly hear.
I reiterate this here again only because so many I have known, lived
lives that were spirals of misery and chaos. There are many paths and styles
of magic. However, without a stoic nature, and quiet mind, displeasure is
often the result.

A list of warnings
Developing a framework limits you, by the very nature of its existence.
Even if you try to move past it, the time you spent working within it, has
become part of your experience. It will affect your views from that point
forward. If you ever become certain of something you have limited yourself
by this certainty. That said finding a groove, or lane, isn’t always a bad
thing but take great care. The only limits are your own.
Trying to levitate objects, or start fires, is a trap and will get you
nowhere. Should you succeed what have you gained? What use is walking
on water? What use is an applauding crowd? Should you proceed without
being clouded by such things you’ll find what you seek.

Beware of obsession and take breaks

Sometimes I have gone as long as three days without purposefully
interacting astrally, and every time I have come back stronger. You will risk
your sanity many times practicing what is contained in this book.
The only way to have any hope of maintaining mundane functionality is
to occasionally become entirely grounded. These days should be spent
watching marathons of movies and shows, or being engrossed in digital
sports. You may very well choose to go fishing instead but the point
remains. Downtime is essential.
Negative magic will often cancel out positive spells that you have acting
on the day. The only real drawback of properly done black magic is that you
have sacrificed what you could have gained instead. However, should you
obsess over negative energy of any sort; there can be only one eventual
outcome. Stones rarely float.
Do not shy from either pole, but strive not to permanently swing out of
balance, lest you drown in your own tar, or end up lost to the existence of it.
Beware of casting love spells. The good news is that with enough trial
and error such spells work remarkably well. There are two approaches to
this. One is akin to summoning and works about the same as anything else.
One ends up a curse every single time.
Forcing someone to love you never ends well if it works at all. I don’t
know why but that’s just the way it is. You can try and solicit this aid from
spirits. You can try your hand at it directly yourself. You’ll wish you hadn’t
at best and wish you had died instead at worst.
Drawing someone to love works flawlessly, and is limited only by the
thoughtfulness of the witch. Can you think of everything you’d ever look
for in someone? Can you think of every heart crushing flaw? I certainly
can’t and I very much doubt you can either. Conjure the perfect girl in every
aspect, but forget to include she not be a pill addict. Find the most beautiful
woman in the world, but with a vapid soul. The list is literally never ending.
This is compounded even further by cases where you get exactly what
you were looking for only to find it’s not something you really wanted at
all! The matter is best avoided entirely outside of giving yourself, and
others, a little nudge. Never cast a love spell for someone you like, yourself
included.
Beware of egocentrism. Everyone is like this to certain extent, or
modern society wouldn’t exist as it does. Your ego, and its pull, will be a
lifelong adversary and occasional tool.
Do not drift off into your own cloud of pride, and clutter or you will
learn little more. Thoughts like “my power” are a sure sign you are drifting
deep into trouble, doubly so because they may not be yours.
