The issue of using drugs to enhance athlete’s performance is controversial. Those who agree to
the use of drugs in enhancing performance say that most top players in all sports take drugs to
train harder and feel no pain during play. The trainers, sports doctors, nutritionists,
physiotherapists, and managers of the big names make sure banned substances are taken at the
safest and most efficient levels. The main effect of banning such substances has turned
performers and their coaches into liars and cheaters.
On the other hand, some still believe that performance enhancing drugs in sport should be
banned. Performance enhancing drugs are not only prohibited because they violate the spirit of
sport but because they can damage the health of athletes.
I think the idea of allowing them in sports could lead to a situation whereby sportsmen and
women are used as human guinea pigs for a constant fl ow of new, unregulated substances.

drugs?
35. According to the proponents of performance enhancing drugs, the effect of banning them

D. Hooligans
E. Supporters
37. How does the writer feel about the performance enhancing drugs?

Will solar energy ever be a main source of energy for industrial societies? The solar energy is
cheaper than any fossil fuell because we can get the abundant source of energy from the sun.
In sunny deserts, the sun’s radiation that reaches the ground can be used to produce electricity
for industries and homes. In one of experiment, solar ponds can produce hot water to drive
generators.

exploited in bright light. Its great potential, therefore, is in countries that have clear skies for
most of the year. Most houses, however, are not in the sunniest part of the world. In addition to

On a chilly winter night, my best friend, Sarel Steinauer and I were driving on a freeway that
was covered in a thin plane of ice. To make matters worse I was drunk. Sarel had warned me not
to drink too much but as usual I ignored his warning if I ever heard it over the racket of the
nightclub that we had just been attending. As I was driving, the beer started to take effect;
somehow I resisted the dizziness effects until we were about halfway home.
As I was halfway in a sharp right turn just about to exit the freeway, I saw a flash of light
streak past my left eye. Seconds later, there was a deafening explosion. The darkness seemed to
recede as I slowly regained consciousness. Suddenly there was a roaring fire and I immediately
unbuckled my seat belt, wanting to get out as soon as possible. In fact it took me nearly ten
minutes to find him. He had been catapulted nearly fifteen feet from where the car was. As I
stood by his side, I realized that his injuries were far worse than my own.
"Nicholas, tell my parents that I love them and my sister too. And one last thing, if you
ever get the chance tell her everything that I told you on that day," Sarel said with his last breath.
"I will" I promised him, holding back tears. "Goodbye Nicholas" and with those last words, he
died.
His parents and not only them but a great deal of his classmates cried as his coffin was
lowered into the ground to be entombed forever beneath the earth. As the funeral came to a close
his, I left unable to take anymore. Although he is dead, Sarel's memory will forever live on in our
hearts.5 http://www.write4fun.net/view-entry/113719

In her need, therefore, she went to her sister and said, “My children and I are suffering the

The very rich sister was too stingy to give some food to her sister and said, “I myself
have nothing in the house,” and she drove away her sister with harsh words.
After some time, the husband of the rich sister came home and was just going to cut
himself a piece of bread. When he made the first cut into the loaf, out flowed red blood.
When the maid saw that, she was very terrified and told him what his wife had done to
the poor widow. After hearing the maid’s story, the husband hurried away to help the poor
widow and her children. But when he entered the widow’s room, he found her praying. She had
her two youngest children in her arms and the three eldest were lying dead. He offered her food,

everywhere. On the way, he met a boy. He asked the boy, “Have you seen my donkey?” The boy
asked, “Is the donkey’s left eye blind, his right foot lame and is he carrying a load of wheat?”
The man was happy and said, “Yes, exactly! Where have you seen it?” The boy answered, “I
haven’t seen it”. This made the man very angry and he took the boy to the village chief for
punishment.
The judge asked, “Dear boy, if you had not seen the donkey, how could you describe it?”
The boy answered, “I saw the tracks of a donkey and the right and left tracks were different. I
understood that the donkey that passed was limping. And the grass on the right side of the road
was eaten but the grass on the left was not. From that I understood that his left eye was blind.
