Q.1. Read the given unseen passage and answer the questions 12
Though Grandfather provided the household with as large a variety of pets as one could wish
for, my favourite was the little black goat who followed me from the mustard fields one day.

Each year before the monsoon rains came, the little Song River was a narrow stream. I liked
watching the fields and tea gardens. I had been sitting on the bank of a small irrigation canal,
gazing a couple of fishermen fishing in the muddy water, when I felt something bump my elbow.
Looking around I found at my side a little goat, jet black and soft as velvet with lovely grey eyes.
She continued to look at me. I looked in my pockets for nourishment and finding a ginger
biscuit, held it out to her. A little later when I got up to leave the little goat behind. But her legs
were stronger than I had supposed. There was nothing I could do but carry her home and
present her to Grandfather.

“Not another pet!” said Grandmother when she saw the goat in the veranda. It was easy to
understand Grandmother’s objections. The recent destructiveness of Toto, our monkey, who
had torn curtains and broken dishes, had set Grandmother dead against having any more pets.
Grandfather by my side had to pretend that he had purchased the goat as an investment.
“Goat’s milk is very good for our health,” he told grandmother. The prospect of milk made
grandmother more tolerant of the new pet, even though she knew it would be some time before
the goat could give any. My goat was soon named Tinker Bell, after the fairy in Peter Pan. I tied
a little bell to her neck so I’d always know by its tinkling where she was,

Q.2. Read the given seen passage and answer the questions 12
The next morning Viola went to Dukes court as Cesario. She pleased him with her fine speech
and graces. Duke Orsino was delighted and he immediately made her one of his pages. She
served him for many days with such devotion that she soon became his favourite attendant. The
Duke confined in her the whole story of his love for Lady Olivia he told her about lady Olivia's
refusal to listen to him or even see him. He spoke with such softness that Viola felt great
concern for him. In fact soon enough Viola was moved by his plight and found herself falling in
love with him. She spoke to Duke Orsino about his many qualities she said that it was a pity
Lady Olivia was blind to them for any women would be lucky to be with him "My lord if a lady
were to love you as you loved Lady Olivia would love her back?" She asked.

But Duke Orsino denied that it was possible for any woman to love as he did. He said "No
woman's heart is big enough to hold so much love!" Although Viola greatly respected the
Duke's opinions. She disagreed. She knew her love to be deep and true. She said "Ah but my
lord women are as true of heart as men are. My father had a daughter who loved a man she
loved that way I would have loved you if I were a woman. While Viola was hinting about her
feelings the Duke's messenger appeared. "My Lord I went to Lady Olivia as you instructed. I
was not allowed into the lady's presence but she sent the message through her maid. She said
that for another seven years, no man could even look up on her face. She has decided to
remain veiled in sad remembers of her dead brother".

On hearing this Duke exclaimed "What love if she loves her poor dead brother so much, how
deeply will she love the man who owns her heart!"
Then he turned to Viola and said, "Cesario, I have told you all the secrets of my heart. Go good
youth to lady Olivia's house. Stand at her doors until she grants you an audience when you see
her tell her about my deep love for her" Viola went off on her mission but most unwillingly. She
was to conceive a lady to become the wife of the man she herself secretly wished to marry!
However Viola was determined to be true to her word she stood at Lady Olivia's door and
insisted on being admitted. The servants gave all kinds of excuses the lady was ill , she was
asleep, she was away but we all are not leave.
