Question 62 through 64
W-Am How was the meeting?
M-Au Good. We talked about ways to increase sales.
W-Am And? Seems like we’ve tried everything.
M-Au Well, radio advertising’s pretty effective, though I can’t
believe how much they charge! But one guy talked about easy
changes to store layout. They just moved some displays around, and
it really made a difference.
W-Am Hmm. I’ve often thought we should move the shoe
department from the back of the store to the front. So it’s across
from the store entrance.
M-Au And here’s an even better idea! Put the shoes next to the
fitting rooms! If people are trying on clothes in the fitting rooms,
they’ll probably want to get the shoes at the same time.
Questions 65 through 67 refer to the following conversation.
W-Am Thank you for coming in to interview today, Mr. Larson. Can
you tell me why you're interested in the engineering manager's
position here at Gold Star Manufacturing?
M-Au Well, your company is the largest appliance manufacturer in
the region, and I think my experience could be put to good use here.
W-Am I see that you're currently head engineer at Medibox Limited.
Can you talk a little bit about your responsibilities in that role?
M-Au Sure. I've headed the engineering Department for six years. I
oversee all of the department's operations, from research and
development to quality assurance. I have 15 engineers reporting
directly to me.
Questions 95 through 97
W-Am: Hello, this is Ellen calling from Pennington
Technology. I wanted to follow up with you about the catering
order form that I e-mailed you last week. (95) lt’s for the board
meeting our company’s holding tomorrow. (96) l’d like to
double the number of beverages, since it’ll be a long meeting
and people might get thirsty. Also, (97) l wanted to let you
know that when you arrive at our company’s office, you’ll have
to check in at the
security desk to
pick up a visitor’s badge. I’ve already let the security guard know, so there should be a badge
ready for you.
Questions 98 through 100 refer to the following excerpt from a meeting and sales graph.
I have one final issue to discuss at today's staff meeting. I just
handed out a graph summarizing our shoe store's annual sales
data. And, well... I think this information is particularly
interesting since we relocated to a different neighborhood this
year. As you might have expected, the relocation decreased
our sales significantly at first. During the quarter we moved,
we experienced the lowest shoe sales of the entire year. That
was largely because people in the new neighborhood didn't
know about us. However, thanks to the newspaper
advertisements and radio commercials we put out, business
picked up
quickly, and we
ended the year
by making a
record number
of sales.
