Public Participation:
x Superintendent Ron Cabrera reported: principals were trained on Senate Bill 191 compliance as
part of the work toward the goals of the Legacy Foundation Grant; he visited Bill Reed Middle,
Mountain View High, Berthoud Elementary, and Ivy Stockwell Elementary, and was impressed
with our students and staff from kindergarten through high school; last Thursday the district held
a public forum at Berthoud High to discuss the Red Rock Academy Charter Application; Loveland
City Council adopted a resolution in support of the districts Mill Levy.
x Sharon Olson reported: as a member of the District Accountability Committee reviewed school
improvement plans and how incredible the advancements in instruction are; participated in a
simulation on poverty put on by United Way and found it very eye opening.
x Lucille Steiner reported: attended Loveland City Council meeting and thanked the people for
speaking on behalf of the Mill Levy; Board will be meeting next Thursday with the Loveland City
Council to discuss a number of items.
x Two people spoke in favor of the work of the instructional coaches in the district.
x Nineteen parents, five students, one community member and four staff members spoke against
the Red Rock Academy charter school application.
The Board took the following action:
x Approved a consent agenda of items including:
o Gifts & donations
o Early graduation requests
o 2011-12 United Way fund drive
x Approved personnel and coaching recommendations
x Approved the contract for online assessment modules (acuity)
During the Discussion portion of the meeting, the board:
x Reviewed and discussed 2011 accreditation of Thompson School District and schools.
x Received a report and discussed the instructional coaching program.
x Reviewed and discussed the Red Rock Academy charter school application.
x Reviewed a written report on district aquatics for 2010-2011.
x Received and discussed a memorandum of understanding between the Colorado Legacy Foundation
and the Thompson School District.
x Received a written report and discussed an agreement with the Coalition for a Thorough and
Uniform Colorado Public Education System.
x Received the monthly financial report for September.
Coming up This meeting will not be aired this week since the meeting was at Berthoud High School.
The next Board of Education meeting is Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. in the board room at 800 S Taft Ave
Stepping Up, a program featuring partnerships between schools and the community, will feature the
partnership between Garfield Elementary and the Volunteers of America Colorado Foster Grandparent
Project. Guests on the program are Naomi Taggart, Volunteers of America Colorado Foster Grandparent
Project Manager, Mekyle Morrow a third grade student at Garfield and Cheryl Cook, principal of Garfield
Elementary. The show will air on Comcast Cable Chanel 14 Oct. 22-28 at noon and 8 p.m. and is
streamed from the district we site at www.thompsonschools.org.
