DANCESPORT COMPETITION

2024 CPAA MEET DANCESPORT COMPETITION GUIDELINES


I. The 2024 CPAA Meet Dancesport Competition adopts the rules specified in the World
Dancesport Federation (WDSF) as the international governing body in Dancesport and
some of the provisions specified in the Palarong Pambansa Dancesport Competition
GUIDELINES version 2015-2018.

III. Adjudicators (Ideal/Highly Suggested)


A. Adjudicators shall be:
1. DSCPI Licensed National Adjudicator
2. DSCPI Licensed School-Based Dancesport Teachers
3. Dancesport Athlete and Medalist in National or Regional Level
4. Teachers enrolled in Online Teaching Course for Dancesport

IV. Scrutineering (Ideal)/Highly Suggested)


A. Scrutineers should be:
1. DSCPI-PD Licensed Scrutineers
2. DepEd Level 1 and 2 Accredited Dancesport Officiating Officials
3. Regional DepEd Accredited Officiating Officials or Qualified Coaches undergo
Refreshers Course by the Division of Cagayan.

V. Competition, age group, discipline, categories and dances


A. Cut-Off Age:
1. Juvenile (Elementary Level) - 2011
2. Junior (Secondary Level) - 2006
B. SOLO EVENT
- a dancer, regardless of gender, will dance without a partner.

VI. Definition of a Couple


A couple is consist of a male and a female dancer.

VII. Partner
Attached to more than 1 partner in a given age group/division, category and dance
style at the same time is NOT PERMITTED.

VIII. Music
A. Time allowed and tempo
In all rounds of the competition, the music shall be a minimum of one and a half
minutes to a maximum of two minutes except for JIVE and QUICKSTEP which is
one minute to a maximum of one and a half minutes.

B. The tempi for each dance shall be:


SLOW WALTZ – 28 to 30 bars/min CHACHACHA - 30 to 32 bars/min
TANGO - 31 to 33 bars/min SAMBA - 50 to 52 bars/min
QUICKSTEP - 50 to 52 bars/min RUMBA - 25 to 27 bars/min
VIENNESE WALTZ - 50 to 60 bars/min JIVE - 42 to 44 bars/min
FOXTROT - 28 to 30 bars/min PASO DOBLE – 60 to 62 bars/min
C. Type of Music
In the 2024 CPAA Dancesport Competition, the music must have the character of
the dance performed. In Latin Dances for example, no disco music shall be played.

IX. Choreography and Syllabus


A. Subject to this rule, all choreographies in all dances per category in the 2024 CPAA
Dancesport Competition is open choreography;
B. A restricted/strict/closed syllabus routine for juvenile age groups is required;
STRICTLY no HIGHLIGHTS and CHOREPRAPHIES integrated; while an open
syllabus/competitive routine is required for junior age groups;

X. Lifts
A. Lifts are NOT permitted in any category level and dance;
B. A lift is any movement during which one member of a couple has both feet off the
floor at the same time with the assistance of the partner;
C. The Chairman of the Board of Adjudicators may DISQUALIFY couples who perform
lifts during competition

XI. Marking
A. Since technology does not allow open marking system, closed marking shall be
used in all rounds of the competition;
B. SKATING SYSTEM of marking shall be used
C. The use of technology-aided adjudication and automated scrutineering is highly
encouraged but is subject to its availability/feasibility

XII. Composition of Competing Delegations


A. Suggested number of dancers/couples to compete in the 2024 CPAA Dancesport
Competition per team:
Juvenile Latin Max. of 4 pairs (4 male/4 female athletes), 3 solos 1 coach
Juvenile Standard Max. of 4 pairs (4 male/4 female athletes), 3 solos 1 coach
Junior Latin Max. of 4 pairs (4 male/4 female athletes), 3 solos 1 coach
Junior Standard Max. of 4 pairs (4 male/4 female athletes), 3 solos 1 coach
The pair and coach who wins the GOLD MEDAL in the Grade A (5 Dance Category); regardless of the number
of medals garnered by the couples; shall represent the Division in the CAVRAA. In case of tie, the Division
Sports Officer and the Tournament Manager will be the one to select the official entries of the division. For
the selection of coaches, the one with Grade A GOLD MEDALIST shall be selected. In case of tie among
coaches, the one with the most number of gold medals in Grades E & C will be the basis. If tie still exists,

E. At least 50% of the participating couples shall be recalled to the next round
excluding the Final Round;
F. In the Final round, Adjudicators shall be ranked according to their performances
with 1 being the highest mark. In no case shall a mark be given to more than one
couple;
G. No more than 6 couples shall participate in the Final Round. In the event that there
more the 6 couples the Chairman of Adjudicators or Tournament Manager may split
the round into two and select the best 6 couples/pairs, then proceed to the final
round.

XIV. Health and Welfare of Athletes


A. Couples are not allowed to compete in 2 Event Categories;
B. All final prize presentations shall be concluded before 12:00 noon for JUVENILE Age
Groups and 16:00 (6:00 PM) for JUNIOR Age Groups
XV. Competition Dress
A. In the 2024 CPAA Dancesport Competition competitors shall dress according to the
WDSF Dress Regulations;
B. The Chairman of Adjudicators may DISQUALIFY any couple in the competition
when either partner is not dressed according the rules set;

XVIII. The Tournament Manager/Director holds the final decisions regarding all matters in
consultation with the National Tournament Management and DSCPI –PD/DepEd
Palarong Pambansa Dancesport Competition Consultant and Interpretation of rules and
all matters not provided for.

IMPORTANT:

1. Competition day will be on February 03, 2024 at Allacapan Vocational High School
Gymnasium. All dance-athletes shall be at venue of the competition on February 1, 2024
(1:00 p.m) for the following:
- Registration of dance-athletes per School;
- Screening of required competition attires in both categories and levels (costumes and
shoes);
- General Orientation for the competition;
- Program flow rehearsal
- Repercharge
2. The result of the competition is final and unappealable. Winners in both
juvenile/elementary and junior/secondary levels will be awarded before the cut-off time
indicated in the guidelines.
