CL605 Safety Summary

INTRODUCTION
This operator’s guide describes the components and operation of the
Rockwell Collins Cabin Electronics System (CES) Cockpit Touch
Screen Equipment. The general operational information in this guide
must be supplemented with information contained in the CES Cabin
Electronic System Operator’s Guide for the bombardier Challenger 605.
An overview of the CES follows this introduction. The Menus and
Displays section covers the Cockpit Touch Screen Equipment Displays
and Controls. The Messages and Annunciators section contains
detailed information regarding messages, annunciations, alerts, and
flags that require action from the pilot or that indicate a malfunction
or failure of an airplane system.

To submit comments regarding this manual, please contact:

SAFETY SUMMARY
CAUTION
C
Some aircraft operators can have special procedures that are
different from those given in this operator’s guide. Refer to the
applicable aircraft flight manual for instructions specified for your
aircraft.
CAUTION
C
Be careful if you wear sunglasses with lenses that cause you not
to see some colors. These types of lenses can have an unwanted
effect on how some colors show on the Cockpit Touch Screen
Equipment displays. You cannot see some items on the display
when you wear these types of sunglasses. Also, the color of some
items can change. For example, some blue lenses can cause
a magenta display item to show as red. If the displays are read
incorrectly, possible damage to the equipment could occur.

CL605 Introduction

OVERVIEW — CES

INTRODUCTION
The Cockpit Touch Screen Equipment (TSE), provided for the
Challenger 605 (CL605) airplanes, supplies the electronic charts,
airplane documentation and manuals, weather information, and access
to the Cabin Electronics System (CES) controls.

SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
The Cockpit TSE functions are accessed through the cockpit-mounted
touch screen display. The interactions with the Cockpit TSE are through
the touch screen buttons, icons, and tabs. The Cockpit TSE does not
have any external mechanical switches. The screen can be physically
turned 90 degrees between the portrait and landscape positions to
show the selected function in an upright position. The screen can be
brightened or dimmed by the Bright (BRT) and DIM buttons. The
electronic charts and cabin shortcuts functions show in the portrait
mode. The Cabin Electronics System pages, manuals, and weather
information show in the landscape mode. The Cockpit TSE has an
on-screen keyboard for alphanumeric data entry. The software for the
Cockpit TSE is hosted on the CES Modular Cabinet Equipment (MCE).
The Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) functions are optional. The EFB
functions include the navigation charts, manuals, and graphical weather.

KEY OPERATING FEATURES

• The CHARTS function provides the selection, viewing, and printing
of the navigation charts for any airport that is loaded into the system
database.
• The Airshow WEATHER function provides the graphical and textual
weather information for viewing.
• The CABIN function allows the pilot to access the same functions as
the Galley TSE with exception of the entertainment video. Camera
video is available.
• The SHORTCUTS function provides a quick-link to important cabin
functions from one page. This reduces the need to navigate through
the entire cabin interface.
• The STATUS function provides details about the effectivity dates
of the chart information.

OVERVIEW — CES CES Cockpit TSE
System Description CL605

• The MANUALS function provides an electronic method for viewing

the manuals which are related to the equipment that is onboard the
airplane. The manuals include the aircraft flight manuals and other
documentation needed for airplane operation. Any file in the Portable
Document Format (PDF) format can be loaded into the MANUALS
folder for viewing by the MANUALS viewer.

COMPONENTS
Cockpit Touch The Cockpit TSE provides the pilot
Screen Equip- interface to the Cabin Electronics
ment (TSE) System. The Cockpit TSE has
an 8.4-inch touch screen. The
touch screen control inputs are
supplied to the Digital Tapping
Equipment (DTE) on the Universal
Serial Bus (USB). The Cockpit
TSE shows the Video Graphics
Array (VGA) video from the
DTE. The Cockpit TSE integrates
the cabin controls and optional
Electronic Flight Bag (EFB)
functions. The cabin controls
include the Galley TSE back-up
feature. The external camera
video is an optional cabin control
feature. Separate subscriptions
are required for the Airshow
Weather feature. The optional
EFB functions include charts,
manuals, and Airshow graphical
weather. The navigation charts
display shows the Jeppesen
navigation charts which include
AIRPORT, DEPARTURE,
ARRIVAL, APPROACH, and
Notices to Airmen (NOTAM). The
Cockpit TSE can show manuals.
These manuals can include, but
are not limited to Aircraft Flight
Manuals (AFM) and Flight Crew
Operator’s Manuals (FCOM).

Digital Tap- The Digital Tapping Equipment

ping Equipment (DTE) provides the digital interface
(DTE) between the Cockpit TSE and
the Modular Cabinet Equipment.
The DTE outputs the VGA video
to the Cockpit TSE. The DTE
receives the Cockpit TSE control
inputs on the Universal Serial
Bus (USB). The DTE encodes the
Cockpit TSE control inputs onto
the Ethernet bus to the MCE.
Modular Cabi- The Modular Cabinet
net Equipment Equipment (MCE) contains
(MCE) the Processor/Mass Storage
Equipment (PME) and Moving
Map Equipment (MME) modules.
The PME and MME contain the
software and microprocessor
systems that operate the Cabin

module hosts cabin controls, and
charts. The MME module hosts
the optional manual and weather
applications.

charts associated with a selected airport through the touch screen

interface. This interface is similar to the Integrated Flight Information
System (IFIS) system, but unlike the IFIS, the airport information does
not automatically transfer from the Flight Management System (FMS).
There are a number of different menus in the CHARTS category. When
the CHARTS category is initially accessed and a chart was previously
displayed, that chart shows again. If no charts have been previously
displayed, then the CHART MAIN INDEX page shows. The charts that
are selected can be viewed on the CHART DISPLAY page. Use the
CHART MAIN INDEX page to change the types of charts that can be
viewed. A number of different charts can be selected for display from
the CHART MAIN INDEX page.
NOTE
N
The button configuration which appears on the bottom toolbar can
change with each airport selection. These buttons correspond to
the selections provided in each sub-category on the CHART MAIN
INDEX page. These sub-categories are identified as ORIGIN,
DESTINATION, ALTERNATE, and OTHER AIRPORT on the
CHART MAIN INDEX page.

NOTE
N
The availability of navigation charts depends on which regions are
purchased from the vendor. To view the available regions, refer
to the STATUS section.

The NAVIGATION bar shows at the top of the CHARTS DISPLAY page.
The NAVIGATION bar provides shortcuts to the CHART MAIN INDEX
page, the previously selected application (e.g. CABIN, SHORTCUTS,
WEATHER, and MANUALS), and the MAIN MENU page. The buttons
are added or removed from the top navigation bar in the CHARTS
category depending on the functionality required for the page being
viewed.
The functions and use of the CHARTS functions are supplied in the
selections that follow.
