Kapoposang

Kapoposang is one of the largest of the Spermonde Islands, around 70 km northwest of

Makassar, South Sulawesi. Kapoposang covers an area of around 50,000 hectares and is inhabited by
around 100 families. Several other islands, both inhabited and uninhabited, lie near Kapoposang. The
larger ones include Papandangan, Kondongbali, Suranti and Tambakulu.
Kapoposang and the nearby islands were declared a Nature Tourism Park by the
Department of Forestry in 1999. Diving has been an important activity at Kapoposang since the mid
1990s. There were so few local divers at the time, and because of the distance from other well-known
diving areas in Indonesia, Kapoposang has basically remained a secret.
The best time to visit Kapoposang is between April and November, when the seas are calm, the
weather favorable, and the wind less fierce than in the other months. The trip takes two hours by
speedboat; the ocean breezes help to cool your skin in the hot morning sun. As you approach Pulau
Kapoposang, you see the deep blue water, which suddenly meets an expanse of coral reefs between
extensive shallows with white sands in the seabed. Sea grass also grows lushly near the shore. The
sea bed at Kapoposang has a unique composition; near the island are some quite shallow contours,
and then suddenly steep underwater cliffs leading to seemingly endless depths. The water is very clear;
you can expect underwater visibility of over 15 meters – ideal conditions for divers.

10. The text is about ....

A. Kapoposang and the surrounding islands
B. Kapoposang as a diving spot.
C. Kapoposang as a very popular tourist spot
D. Kapoposang as a secret area

The Sherlock Holmes Museum

My friend and I didn’t even know that this quaint little museum existed but after dodging the
dreaded Madame Tussauds’ queue, we looked up where else we could go in the area. In comparison,
the queue to Sherlock Holmes Museum was long but moved very quickly and we were soon inside the
warm, Georgian house, for only £8.
Sherlock Holmes and Doctor John H. Watson lived at 221b Baker Street in 1881-1904, according
to the stories. The house is protected by the government due to its “special architectural and historical
interest”, while the 1st floor study overlooking Baker Street is still faithfully maintained for posterity as it
was kept in Victorian Times.
The museum is fun for old and young alike. It is decorated as it is described in the books and
you can really imagine the old detective puzzling mysteries over his pipe. Within each room they have
props you can pose with and wax models representing victims and villains from the books including the
notorious Moriarty.
The part of the museum that my friend and I particularly enjoyed was a book of all the letters
posted to the address throughout the years: from children requesting the great detective to solve their
mysteries to adults expressing their love for the novels. The book is full of some great treats including
adults who genuinely believe the character to be real and have shown their appreciation for his
services to the community.
After your journey around the Georgian town house, you can visit the gift shop next door and
indulge yourself with a magnifying glass or a flat cap. It is an enjoyable experience. Make the most of
our city and its literary culture.

21. Where is the museum located?

A. It is inside the Madame Tussauds.
B. It is next to Madame Tussauds.
C. 212b Baker Street.
D. 221b Baker Strees.
E. In Geogia.

interest”, while the 1st floor study overlooking Baker Street is still faithfully maintained for posterity as it
was kept in Victorian Times.

22. What is the writer enjoyed the most at the museum?

A. Wax models representing victims and villains from the books.
B. Magnifying glass and flat cap at the gift shop.
C. Collection of letters posted to the address throughout the years.
D. The interior of the museum that is decorated as it is decribed in the books.
E. The Georgian town houses nearby.

Phubbing was first coined as a term im May 2012. An Australian advertising agency created this
word to describe the growing of phenomenon of people ignoring their friends and family who were right
in front of them and instead of scrolling through their phones.
One study found that more than 17 percent of people phub others at least four hour times a day.
Almost 32 percent of people report being phubbed two to three times a day. While the behaviour might
not seem like a big deal, research suggests phubbing may be hurting your relationships and your
mental health. Read on to learn more.
Phubbing interupts your ability to be present and engage with people around you. Today,
almost all people own a smartphone, so the phubbing problem may be getting worse.
Besides that, the effect of phubbing may be worse on people who found themselves at the
receiving end of the phubbing. When someone phubs you, you may feel rejected, excluded, and not
important. That can have a significant impact on mental health.
Research also shows that people who are phubbed are more likely to reach for their phones
and try to engage with their social media network to fill that void. This is the start of a vicious cycle.
Above all, phubbing is a learned behaviour. It only reecently becomes a problem and you can
unlearn it. It will take time and some work, but your mental health and your relationship will thank you
for it.

Dear Irene
It is good to know that you’re doing well. Thanks for sharing the story your last time in Norway. I
found it really impressive. I’m glad you had a good time. Your story made me want to add that country
to my bucket list.
As we’re on the topic of vacations, I also wanted to share about how I ended up going to Italy. I
told you earlier this year that I was going to visit my grandparents in Scotland just like any other year.
However, it turned out that my grangparents were going on trip with their friends from the senior
community. Therefore I cancelled my trip at the last minute. Before the trip, I already freed up my
schedule, as I did not just want to stay in London alone. I thought it would be fun to visit Italy as I had
never been there before. I arranged everything in a hurry and made it to Italy at last.
The first place on my list was none other than The Learning Tower of Pisa. I know it is common
tourist place, but I’ve always wanted to see it for myself. It was indeed fascinating how the tower was
actually learning. I walked around the complex and took a lot of pictures before I headed to another
place. I spent two days in Rome and Milan. Then I travelled quite far from the city, to the Northeastern
part of the country. Venice was so much beautiful than I expected. All the canals and the bridges
looked like something from a painting. The views were marvellous and breath-taking. I also took a
gondola ride which would actually have been so much better If I were not alone. I cannot wait to come
back and bring you with me.

Well, that’s all for now. I hope you’re having a wonderful day!

Love,
Sonia

47. Why did the writer fail to meet his grandparents?

A. Because they cancelled their trip.
B. Because they were not in London.
C. Because they went to Italy together.
D. Because they were visiting Norway.
E. Because they were on trip with friends.

Solar Eclipse

Have you ever seen a solar eclipse? It is a natural phenomenon that happens when the moon
passes in front of the Sun and blocks it completely. When you look up into the sky at the Sun and the
Moon , you will notice a strange coincidence that can make you feel curious because they both look
like the same size in the sky and you will see really beatiful sight.
An eclipse occurs at the times when the Moon moves into a position of direct alignment with the
Sun and the Eart. There are three types of solar eclipses; a total solar eclipse, a partial solar eclipse,
and an annular solar eclipse.

A total solar eclipse occurs when the new moon passes direcly between the Sun and the Eart.
The moon’s complete shadow ( the umbra ) sweeps across the narrow path of totality on the Earth.
Daytime briefly turns into total darkness, and during these few precious minutes the halo of the Sun-
the corona – comes into view as the dark disk of the Moon totally obscures the bright Sun. Outside the
path of totally, in the Moon’s partial shadow ( the penumbra ), some portion of the Sun’s bright disk
remain visible.
A partial solar eclipse also occurs when the Moon passes directly between the Sun and the Earth.
However , only the penumbra touches our planet. The umbra passes either just above the North Pole
or just below the South Pole, completely missing the Earth. N total eclipse is visible—only partial
phases can be seen.
An annular solareclipse occurs when the Moon’s umbra passesacross the Earth, but it doesn’t
take a long time to reach the surface; the shadow come diminishes to point before reaching the Earth.
This effect happens when the Moon is farther out in its orbit around the Earth. The moon appears
slightly smaller and is not completely large enough to cover the Sun. When the Moon, is centered over
the Sun , a ring of sunlight remains visible around the edge. Because the Sun is not completely
covered by the Moon, the rare and dramatic effects of a total solar eclipse are not present at either
annular or partial eclipses of the Sun.
It is quite remarkable that a solar eclipse can occur because the Sun and the Moon appear from
Earth to be about the same size in the sky. The Sun, whose diameter is 400 times larger than the
Moon, is about 400 times as far away from the Earth. This condition permits the Moon to cover up the
Sun. In fact, if the Moon’s diameter ( 2,160 miles ) was just 140 milesless. It would not be large enough
to completely cover the Sun.

55. What does the text mainly talk about ?

A. The conditions when solar eclipses happen.
B. Several ways to see solar eclipse.
C. A research on solar eclipses.
D. How solar eclipses happen.
E. The time when solar eclipses happen.

Disasters in Java Caused by Poor Spatial Planning

TEMPO.CO, Semarang - The Indonesian Forum for the Environment (Walhi) assessed that

Java contributed to the highest number of catastrophies in the archipelago.
Many areas on the island that should be water catchment areas have changed functions.
“There is a function shift of protected areas to commercial use, whether for industry, offices,
educational centers, or others. We call it spatial planning mismanagement,” said Walhi’s
campaigner Abdul Ghofar in Semarang, Monday, January 23, 2023.
He noted that in the last four years, Java has become the epicenter of disasters in the
country. In 2019, 2,351 disasters occurred, or 61 percent of the total national disasters. In 2020,

If You Believe
By Strive to be & Patch Crowe

If you believe
You can move the highest mountains
Cross the greatest oceans and
Walk across the water, the water

You feel defeated, falling on your knees, and

Looking up for some hope tonight
You try to stand up
But you throw your hands up

Like you no longer have the strength to fight

'Cause you've seen too many sunsets
Too many days ending in the darkest night
But, on your own, you'll never know
You'll never know

They say that all you need is faith

But it's almost like you lost your way
Took a few wrong turns, took a few breaks
Falling behind now, looking for grace

'Cause you need someone to lift you up

Yeah, make right all the things you done
'Cause on your own, you'll never know
You'll never know
