Reference 2
Purpose: We combine Science and Mathematics to convince people to buy electric cars.
Task 1 Considering Reference 2, analyse the synthesis of Science and Mathematics to meet the purpose.
Percentage is the essential element of math whereas electricity are the essential element of science. Percentages helps convince people understand why the product is important or not
towards the society. This is because percentages provides a generic value so that target audience understand better on the situation. Electricity on the other hand are used as a fuel source
of the new future vehicles, electric vehicles. This allows the target audience to know of how electric cars work, how are they superior towards petrol cars and why the development is still
taking time.
The synthesis is able to provide the benefits of electric vehicles by mentioning that electric cars has cheaper maintenance, less carbon emissions and less noise disturbance. As shown in
the infographic, “electric cars can lower carbon emissions by more than 40% compared to petrol cars.” It is also mentioned that, “there are fewer routine checks leading to cheaper
maintenance cost.”, transitioning to electric cars will reduce noise disturbance and electric cars can lower CO2 emissions by more than 40% compared to petrol cars”. These shows the
target audience on how superior electric cars are compared to petrol cars in terms of being environmentally friendly. The synthesis even provide the limitations of electric cars by
mentioning that the electric car is costly and takes longer time to refuel. This affects the target audience’s choice in choosing electric vehicles as petrol cars don’t take so much time to be
fueled compared to electric cars.
However, the limitations of the synthesis is that, the infographic did not include how much energy does the electric car consume compared to a petrol car. This is important for the
consumers as electric cars takes longer time to refuel. If electric cars take more energy, then less people will buy the car as many people highly depend on the car to travel to further
distances without consuming so much energy. Besides that, not every country around the world has a major into nationwide electric charging infrastructure as some countries do not use
electricity for more than an hour in a day. Examples can be pakistan, democratic republic of congo, algeria and even east timor, these countries will have major problems in they create an
investment for electrical infrastructure as people that are working or people that cannot a car will not be able to use the electrical cars. Therefore, the target audience will have difficulties
in deciding whether electric cars are suitable replacements for petrol cars as both price and usage are the current issues.
In conclusion, the reference was able to provide general benefits and limitations of electric cars towards the target audience. However, the information is still generic as the audience are
unsure whether electric cars will be a good replacement for petrol cars. Even though it is a green technology, we don’t know how much energy this technology consume in a daily basis.
Besides that, not every country around the world has a major into nationwide electric charging infrastructure as some countries do not use electricity for more than an hour in a day.
Therefore, reference did not meet its purpose.

Task 2 Question 2: Synthesising and Reflecting
Create an advertisement that synthesises science and mathematics to educate your school
community about electric vehicles
Cost efficiency and environmentally friendly are my interdisciplinary knowledge for my advertisement of the bionic car. Cost
efficiency convinces the target audience in which is cheaper or affordable for them to purchase. However, environmentally friendly
shows the target audience on how green the vehicle is compared to fossil fueled vehicles. For cost efficiency, I mentioned that
biofuel is cheaper compared petrol which is more affordable for people to purchase. I even mentioned that the bionic car is the
cheapest compared to the other renewable vehicle. The solar car with a price of $178,500, the hydrogen car with a price of $68,500
and the electric car with a price of $38,000. The bionic car has a price of $18,500. For environmentally friendly, I mentioned that the
bionic car releases less carbon emissions by 10% compared to a petrol car. This will reduce greenhouse gases from affecting the
atmosphere which reduces global warming and climate change as there are lesser gas pollutants that are being released into the
air.
I believed that my chosen vehicle is the best compared to petrol cars because biofuel is more affordable compared to petrol as well
as releases lesser carbon dioxide towards the atmosphere. Even though, the car is still relying of fossil fuels, it is cheaper compared
to other alternative fueled vehicles such as the solar, hydrogen and electric car. Evidence from my advertisement shows in terms of
cost efficiency “biofuel is 50% the price of petrol”, This allows people to spend less money on biofuels and also allowing to spend
more money on other expenses such as vehicle maintenance. Evidence from environmentally friendly shows that “ This will save up
to 10% of your CO2 emissions which will lead to half a tonne of CO2, a year. “ This will reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the
atmosphere which will reduce heat being trapped in the atmosphere which prevent global warming from rising.
Task 3 Discuss how your new interdisciplinary understanding of Mathematics and Science can enable future
action to improve the individual’s transportation in your school community. Your discussion must:
Percentages and fuels are the two examples that were used for my new interdisciplinary understanding of electric cars
in reference 2. Percentages are used to give better understanding towards the target audience on how good or how bad
are electric cars. Fuels on the other hand are used as a comparison which allows the target audience to decide which is
best or worst in terms of the environmental and social perspective. Based on Reference 2, there are two fuels being
shown which are electricity and petrol. Electricity is the new future fuel that is going to be used for cars whereas petrol
is the current fuel we use today.
According to reference 2, replacing petrol cars with electric cars will reduce noise disturbance towards the school. This
is good for the students as they can concentrate better towards their learning without any distractions from electric
cars. Besides that, electric cars can reduce 40% of carbon emissions to the atmosphere compared to a petrol car. This is
good for the students especially children as they will not suffer from having respiratory problems such as asthma or
tuberculosis from the carbon emissions being produced by the vehicle. Lastly, electric cars has cheaper maintenance
which is good for the parents as they don’t have to spend so much of money for the electric car’s services. This will
allow parents to afford other school expenses for their child’s education.
