How to Troubleshoot a CIMPLICITY® Project


Naming and configuration errors can cause the CIMPLICITY application to not run correctly when starting a project.
These problems are associated with the CIMPLICITY or ToolboxST application.

CIMPLICITY Errors
Note The Site and cimproj folders are located on the E: drive by convention. The actual file names and drives may vary by
site.
To review the CIMPLICITY status log
From the Site folder, select cimproj, and double-click the project file (.gef). The CIMPLICITY Workbench dialog
box displays.

From the toolbar, click the Status Log


button. The Status Log displays. Review
the Status Log for errors.

To review all CIMPLICITY log files


1 From the Site folder, select cimproj, log, and double-click the CIMPLICITY Log folder to display the CIMPLICITY
logs. Review the CIMPLICITY logs for errors.

2 Double-click the cor_recstat.clg file to display the core status log. Review the core status log for errors.

Note Each CIMPLICITY process creates an error file (.err) and an output file (.out) when the project is started. Two copies
(_1.out, _2.out, _1.err, _2.err) are maintained in the log folder each time the project is stopped.

To verify that the global script location is defined correctly
From the Site folder, select cimproj, and double-click the project file (.gef). The CIMPLICITY Workbench
dialog box displays.

From the Tree View,


Select Advanced, Global
Parameters, and
Project. The Project
Parameter list displays.

Verify the GSM_GLOBAL_SCRIPT


directory path and name are correct.

To verify that the Project Properties are defined correctly


From the CIMPLICITY Workbench screen, select the Project menu, then Properties. The Project Properties
dialog box displays.

From the Options tab,


verify the Enable
project broadcast
check box is not
selected. Click OK.

Note The Enable project broadcast check box must be selected if viewers are configured in the system to connect to this
project.

From the General tab, in the


Options section, verify Basic
Control and External Alarm
Manager ST are selected.

In the Protocols section, verify


that OPC Client and SNMP
Devcom are selected.

Note SNMP Devcom is only required for legacy network monitor configuration.

To force re-import of CIMPLICITY project data
1 From the Site folder, select cimproj, and double-click the project file (.gef). The CIMPLICITY Workbench dialog
box displays.

From the Tree View,


highlight the Points
item.

2 From the View menu, select Search To Activate Point. The Search dialog box displays.

3 Enter *Config* in the Point ID field.

4 Clear all other fields and click OK. Each device in the project will have two points:

• Device.config_version

• Device.config_version_alarms

5 Delete the two points associated with the device you want to re-import.

6 From the task bar, open the WorkstationST Status Monitor.

7 Right-click the HMI and select Start Subfeature. The Select Subfeatures To Start dialog box displays.

8 From the Select Subfeatures To Start dialog box, select Importer and click OK. The HMI Importer will run.

9 Check the WorkstationST Status Monitor, HMI feature for errors.

ToolboxST Errors
To verify that the CIMPLICITY Project File Path is defined correctly
From the project’s ToolboxST* System Editor Tree View, double-click to open a WorkstationST item. The
Component Editor displays.

Select the HMI Config tab.

From the Property


Editor, verify that the
Project File Path is
correctly defined.

Verify HMI
Graphics without
a Project is set to
False.

To verify that EGD Config Server Equality is equalized

1 From the project’s ToolboxST System Editor Tree View, select the System item .

From the Status bar, verify


that EGD Config Server
Equality displays as
Equal.

2 If the EGD Config Server Equality displays as Not Equal, right-click Not Equal to display a short-cut menu.

From the short-cut menu select


View Differences. The
following dialog box displays.

Select EGD Nodes are not equal.

3 Review each item displayed as unequal, return to the Component Editor, and select the build command.

4 When all items are complete, repeat steps one and two of this procedure. If you continue to have problems, refer to
GEH-6700, ToolboxST* User Guide for Mark* VIe Control for further information.
