General Instructions:
(a) All questions are compulsory.
(b) Section A: Q. No. 1 to 20 are very short answer questions (objective type) and carry 1 mark each.
(c) Section B:Q. No. 21 to 27 are short answer questions and carry 2 marks each.

SECTION A
Read the given passage and answer the questions 1 to 5 that follows:
Hydrocarbons are carbon and hydrogen containing compounds that burn to produce oxides of carbon.
Hydrocarbons are carcinogenic and their products are also major pollutants. Carbon monoxide (CO) is poisonous
in nature as it reacts with the haemoglobin of blood, which can even result in death. Though carbon dioxide
(CO2) is not toxic in nature, yet it contributes towards global warming by trapping the reflected IR rays. This
results in the heating up of the Earth's atmosphere, thereby leading to the melting of icebergs and glaciers.
1. Define environmental chemistry. 1
2. Carbon monoxide gas is more dangerous than carbon dioxide gas. Why? 1
3. How IR rays are harmful for atmosphere? 1
4. Write the name of the complex formed by the reaction of CO with haemoglobin. 1
5. What is the range of pH value for Acid rain? 1
Questions 6 to 10 are one word answers/one sentence:
6. Arrange the following set of compounds in order of their decreasing relative reactivity toward 1
selectorphilic (E+ ) attack
Chlorobenzene, 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene, p-nitrochlorobenzene
7. For an isolated system, ΔU = 0, what will be ΔS? 1
8. Name a species that will be isoelectronic with Rb+ ion. 1
9. Calculate the amount of carbon dioxide (in mole) that could be produced when 1 mole of carbon is 1
burnt in air.
10. Name the method, which can be used to separate two compounds with difference of boiling 1
point(less than 200C) in a solvent.
