ABSTRACT

Title : INTEGRATION OF GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION IN

TEACHING SCIENCE
Author : CARL MARTIN R. ENGCOY

Degree : MASTER SCIENCE IN TEACHING SCIENCE EDUCATION

Adviser : ENGR. LUZMINDA S. BACQUIAL

The study determined the effectiveness of the integration of Global

Citizenship Education in teaching Science, particularly in Ecology. It developed

lesson exemplars with the integration of Global Citizenship Education. Moreover,

it also included the validity of the lesson exemplars, as evaluated by the experts

and the test questionnaires. It utilized the quasi-experimental pretest-posttest

design method of research. Its primary concern was to compare the students’

performance exposed to GCED integrated instruction and those students

exposed to conventional teaching. The subjects of the study were the third-year

Environmental Science students of the College of Arts and Sciences with

Ecology subject in the second semester of the academic year 2020-2021 at

North Eastern Mindanao State University – Tandag Campus. The findings of the

study revealed that the students taught with GCED integration have shown high

performance in their post-test with a mean score of 27.95 2 and has a significant

increase of approximately 33% from their pretest result compared to the 11%

increase of the post-test score of the control group from the pretest score.

Moreover, there is a significant difference in integrating GCED in teaching

Science rather than the conventional teaching since it empowers learners of all

ages to assume active roles, both locally and globally, in building more peaceful,

tolerant, inclusive, and secure societies.
