Task 1
Marie Kein, a sole trader, owns MK business, which includes a chain of six laundry and dyeing shops in Ho Chi Minh
city. The business was established few years ago to offer a large range of services, from normal washing of clothes
and bedding, dry washing of clothes, clothes dyeing, carpet washing, and trading of washing machines. Marie knew
little about accounting, so she approached you to help her with advice on MK business’s accounting system.
1. Examine the purpose of the accounting function of MK business.
Task 2
Marie recruited Adams as an accountant for her MK business. MK business has to comply with health and
environmental standards, which are guided by Vietnamese authorities. As the matter of fact,
MK shops produce toxic wastes that need to be properly treated. The environmental and health-care regulations have
caused MK shops a considerable cost of treating such sewages. MK business’s financial year runs from 1 January to
31 December. Adams was preparing MK business’s financial statements for the year ended December 31, 2023.
When seeking the materials needed for preparing a note on environmental contingencies, Adams discovered that MK
shops did not use chemicals to treat the sewages all time of the year, and the untreated sewage was discharged directly
to a nearby river as the treated sewage. Adams contemplated ignoring the finding and completed financial statements
and management accounting reports submitted to Marie. The key results of service growth, time of services, customer
satisfaction were extracted from these accounting reports to include in MK brochure to announce to MK staff and
customers.
2. Assess the accounting function of MK business in the context of regulatory and ethical constraints.

Marie wanted to expand and develop her business. She was taking steps to be certified by Hilton Hotel. She visited a
local bank, MMB, to ask for loans and she also asked her close friend, Paul to join her as a business partner in order to
finance the business growth and development. Marie thus sent MK financial statements of 2023 to MMB and Paul.
4. Critically evaluate the role of accounting in informing decision-making to meet organizational, stakeholder
and societal needs within complex operating environments.
