LECTURE METHOD: Is regarded as the most comprehensively used method within educational
institutions. This is the method in which the instructors are imparting information to students in terms of
lessons plans and academic concepts within classroom settings.

Lecture method is the one-way flow of information from the teacher to the student. This is basically the
teacher presenting the learning concepts to the students and the students listening sometimes passively.

In addition, lecture method is also known as transmissive method which is based on vertical learning,
where by the teacher has all the knowledge. The know-how which they transmit to the students. It is a
method of teaching to student in which the teacher focuses more on theory. Today, lecturing is a
teaching method that involves, primarily, an oral presentation given by an instructor to a body of
students. Many lectures are accompanied by some sort of visual aid, such as slide show, a word
document, an image or a film.

Lecture method of teaching is one of the oldest methods of teaching in which the teacher focuses on
theory of syllabus. The lecture method of teaching has been used for a long time and it's still used during
preparation of various competitive exams and practical exam because in the end , the lecture methods
help in memorizing things much faster and in an efficient way.

Benefits derived from lecture method;

This teaching methodology has been in use for ages and is one of the best ways to disseminate
knowledge in large classroom. Some are the following advantages:

1 time efficient: since multiple references do not need to be presented simultaneously, classes flow
smoothly and without reasons for lag, which saves valuable classroom time.

2. Organized lesson structure: students can emulate the pattern and speed set by professors, thus, doing
away with the hassle of creating a separate study plan.

3. Easily scalable for larger groups: the classroom lecture method of teaching can be modified for larger
students’ population with ease.

The lecture method, where a teacher presents information to a large group of students in a one-way
communication format, can be effective in certain situations. Here are some scenarios where the use of
the lecture method may be apt:
1. *Introduction to new topics*: Lectures can be useful when introducing new and complex topics to
students. The teacher can provide an overview, key concepts, and foundational knowledge that students
can build upon in further discussions or activities.

2. *Large class sizes*: In classes with a large number of students, the lecture method can efficiently
deliver information to a large group at once. It can be challenging to engage all students in discussions or
activities in a large class, so a lecture can ensure that everyone receives the same information.

3. *Providing context or background information*: Lectures can be beneficial for providing context,
background information, or historical perspectives on a topic. This can help students understand the
significance of the material and how it fits into a broader context.

4. *Summarizing complex material*: When complex or detailed information needs to be summarized

and presented in a clear and structured manner, a lecture can be effective in organizing and delivering
the content in a coherent way.

5. *Review sessions*: Before exams or assessments, lectures can be a useful way to review key concepts,
clarify any misunderstandings, and provide additional explanations to help students prepare for the
assessments.

While the lecture method can be effective in these situations, it is important to complement lectures
with interactive and engaging activities to promote student engagement, understanding, and retention
of the material. A mix of teaching methods tailored to the specific learning objectives and needs of
students is often the most effective approach in education.

SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION

This method is useful in large classes, but it also has some limitations. This method makes the students
passive listeners. There is very little scope for pupil activity. It is against the principle of learning by doing.
It does not take into consideration individual differences. It does not develop power of rezoning of the
students. It becomes monotonous to the students.

Though this method has much limitation but still it is the most used method. The lecture method can be
made effective by using following points;

a matter should be arranged properly.

b Teacher should have process in between the lesson.

c These should be abundant repetition of the topic.

d The teacher should encourage the students to ask questions

e teaching aids should also be used to make the lecture effective.

f The content of the lecture should be logical and according to the standard of the students.

Thus, we conclude that the lecture method can be very effective, if it is made more interactive and
interesting for students.

CONCLUSION

Now we know the importance of lecture method of teaching. The lecture method is a classic way to
teach. It is a great way for teachers to share information with many students at once. To make it even
better, teachers can use different tools like videos and ask questions during the lecture and make the
learning process more fun and engaging for them.

In short, lectures can be very useful when done right, helping students learn in a clear and organized
way.
