• I once visited a big aquarium in my hometown. I could see an extensive
range of fish. There was a description of each species, and a guide
gave us lots of interesting pieces of information about them.

• Is fishing popular in your country?

•Iran is located in an arid area. There are not many lakes in my country.
Just those living in the northern and southern parts of Iran rely on
fishing as a source of income. Besides, some people might consider
travelling there to go fishing as a hobby.

• I didn't use to be keen on eating fish. I couldn't stand its smell. But, I've
realized that it's nutritious and full of protein. So from time to time, I

•If my memory serves me correctly, there is a documentary called our
planet. In one of its episodes, we can see great shots of different types
of marine animals including fish. I was impressed by the
cinematography of that documentary.

much faster and more accurate. On the negative side, overusing them
can lead to laziness.

• Sure. I saw the advertisement of some self-cleaning robots. I guess it
would save me a lot of time if I relied on them. I wouldn't have to deal
with the hassle of doing household chores.

• Well, as long as the safety of the trip is guaranteed, I will be happy to
experience driverless cars. I've heard they can also reduce the chance
of accident.

• To tell you the truth, I haven't been interested in this subject since childhood. I
remember I was always bored by that topic at school. I'm not going to say it's a
useless lesson. I'm just not very keen on knowing and learning about the
geographical facts although I agree they are important.

• Do you ever want to travel to a country because of its geographical location?

• Well, I've been living in an arid area and sometimes I prefer to experience more
mild weather conditions. I might consider living in areas with more rainy and
snowy days. Besides, since I'm interested in doing some nature activities, living in
a city with some pristine nature would be great for me.

• In Iran, giving gift cards holds so much appeal. They give people a
degree of flexibility to buy what they want. But some people expect
others to spend time and find out the gift they like the most.

• What's the best gift you have ever received?

• When I gained admission to a good university, my parents were
over the moon. So they decided to give me a smartphone as a gift. I
still have it, and it has a sentimental value for me.

• Since I'm an avid reader, I prefer to give books to others. It can give
them some food for thought and hopefully broaden their horizons. I
usually write an autograph on the first page as well.

• Do you like to give expensive gifts?

•For those whom I love, I try to do my best to show them how I
appreciate them. Giving them an expensive gift can be a good way
to tell them how much we love them. For example, if I had enough
money, I would buy a house for my parents.

• I buy gifts for my family and close friends' birthdays. On some
special occasions, I also give them gifts. For example, a few months
ago, I gave a gift card to my friend at his wedding ceremony.

• It's a good way to appreciate our friendship and strength and
relationship. We show them we care about them and love them.
Even a small gift can make many people happy.

• Yes. A couple of years ago, my aunt gave me a T-shirt on my
birthday. It didn't look good on me and I didn't like the color and
style. But I thanked her and didn't tell anybody that I didn't like the

• Do you like running?
• Sure. Running is one of the easiest and healthiest ways to escape
from a sedentary lifestyle. It doesn't need expensive equipment and
a gym membership and you do it almost everywhere outside.

• Where do you run?

• There is a park near my house. It's a five-minute walk. I usually go
there for a walk and sometimes running. Not only can it help me be
in better shape, but it can also put me in a better mood.

• Almost every day. I go to a park near my house for running one in
the morning and once in the afternoon. Besides, at weekends, I go
mountain climbing every now and then.

• I wish I could, but as I've been working around the clock, I don't

• Do you like to watch films?
• Sure. I'm a movie freak. I've watched movies in different genres
from action to social dramas. If I have some time to spare, watching
films will be my favourite hobby.

• What kinds of movies do you like best?

•I'm a big fan of documentaries although many people find them
boring. In particular, recently, I watched a documentary called Our
Planet about nature and animals. It had me on the edge of my seat
because of its fascinating cinematography.

• I used to go to the cinema more when I was younger. But nowadays
I can't see many good films in Iranian cinemas. They are usually
poor comedies, and to be completely honest, I can't stand them.

• I don't remember, to tell you the truth, but it must have been some
cartoons when I was a child. I just remember I did like daddy's long
legs as a kid.

• Well, my friends are usually keen on some poor comedy films and
as I said I can't stand them. So if I had to choose, I'd prefer to watch
my favourite film alone.

• As I said, I neither like the films in Iranian cinemas nor my friends'
favourite films. So, I'm not a big fan of catching up with my friends
in cinemas.

• Without a doubt, I'd go for foreign films. Not only do they have
better storytelling, but they also have better image quality and
special effects. For instance, I'm a big fan of American and Korean
cinema.

• Yes both of them hold so much appeal in Iran. Iranian people
usually offer their guests tea or coffee. Most of them also have a
cup of tea or coffee in the morning, afternoon or even at night.

• Do people like tea or coffee nowadays?

• As far as know, more and more people have tea or coffee during
the day. As they need to work harder and for longer hours, tea and
coffee can keep them awake.

• If I had to choose, I'd go for coffee. In particular, I'm a big fan of
espresso and Americano. I usually have a cup of coffee one in the
morning and one in the afternoon.

• Of course. In a noisy environment, my concentration wavers and my
attention wanders. In particular, when I'm studying, I can't stand any
type of noise, so I prefer to stay in a calm and relaxing place.

• Do any noises bother you?

•The traffic noise is my pet peeve. Unfortunately, in our country, we
have to deal with the hassle of getting stuck in traffic congestion a
lot. Many drivers keep honking their horns which is frustrating. I
wish the authorities could impose some rules to restrict this type of
noise.

• Do you think there's too much noise in today's world?
• Without a doubt. Overpopulation, increasing construction of
buildings and high volume of traffic have made cities nosier.
Because of this, some city dwellers decide to relocate to the
countryside to enjoy a healthier and more relaxing.

•Unfortunately, I've been living in a noisy city. Each day I have to put
up with the traffic noise, and construction noise. Besides, in my
workplace, some colleagues listen to their own favourite music that I
might not like. This can be sometimes distracting.

• I've always wanted to learn how to play piano, but unfortunately,
I've never had the chance. But I hope I can do it. I might consider
joining a music course.

• Sadly, music is completely ignored in my country although it can
help students release their stress and improve their creativity. If
someone wants to learn music, they should join private courses.

• Do you usually help people around you?
• I usually do my best to be a helping hand. Helping others gives us a sensation
that can't be expressed in words. For example, once I bought a meal for a
homeless child. He got so happy, and I felt rewarded.

• How do you help people around you, such as neighbours, family and friends?
• Doing household chores and lending them some money can be helpful. I would
add that sometimes just talking to them and showing them that we care about
them is the best help.

• Yes. Helping others is a value that has been always encouraged in
our family. My mother always tells me that when you help someone,
you get more than you give.

•On the one hand, they did their best to provide me with a
comfortable life. On the other hand, they didn't want to spoil me, so
sometimes they gave me some responsibilities to help me be more
independent.

• When was the first time when you used a map?
• I don't remember but it must have been in our primary school. Our
teacher brought the map of our city to the class and explained how
to read it. I just remember that lesson seemed tedious to me.

• How often do you use a map?

• I use digital maps almost every day. While driving, I use some
applications such as Waze or Google Maps. Not only are they user-
friendly, but they can also suggest some shortcuts.

• As I mentioned earlier, we had some lessons at school. But to be
completely honest, I didn't find them enjoyable and even practical.
Nowadays, we can simply use our smartphone to read a map.

I know next to nothing about them. But I can easily use digital maps
on my smartphone. I prefer these types of maps as you don't need
to have any background knowledge.

• There is a range of topics that we are interested in, but since we are on the same
wavelength, we enjoy sharing our plans and ideas about our future life and
career paths. We can often give each other some useful pieces of advice and
point each other in the right direction.

• Have your discussion topics changed since you were a child?

• As a child, I wasn't mature enough to talk abstract topics and more serious
issues. I was only concerned with my games, food, and short-term goals.
However, as an adult, I engage more in social, political and even philosophical
discussions.

• I prefer to wear smart and formal outfits. These types of clothes
usually represent my discipline and can leave a good impression on
people. That said, when I'm supposed to catch up with my friends, I
might consider wearing more casual clothes.

•I usually avoid wearing flashy clothes. I don't want to draw people's
attention only by what I'm wearing. I'm also not very keen on
wearing shirts with Big logos.

• At work and for formal meetings, which are usually during the
weekdays, I prefer to wear smart clothes. But at weekends I usually
go to a family party or catch up with my friends, so I'd rather wear

• The colour of clothes that I like the most is blue. It looks on me. I
usually avoid wearing clothes with flashy colours like true red.

• In the past, it didn't used to be very common. People would wear mostly dark
colours. Having said that, nowadays wearing bright colours holds so much
appeal among Iranian people particularly younger generations.

• It's said that men prefer more neutral colours while women like more vibrant
colours. Besides, some think that men's choices of clothes are more limited. But I
believe these are stereotypical ideas. People can wear whatever they want
regardless of their gender.

• Nowadays, like many people, I suffer from a sedentary lifestyle. So, I
prefer to ride my bicycle as much as I can. If there is a short
distance, I prefer to ride my bike instead of using my car. Besides,
on the weekend, I go biking in a park near my house.

•For children, it might be more challenging. As they haven't ridden a
bicycle before, they may be afraid of it. But I guess adults can
quickly get the hang of riding a bicycle.

• As I said earlier, on the weekend, I go biking in a park near my
house. It's a good way to have a change of scenery and recharge
your battery. So the last time was the last weekend.

But, obviously bicycles are not fast enough for longer distances.

• Sure. Riding a bicycle is one the healthiest leisure activities for
children. Not only is it healthy, but it's also entertaining. I guess it
would nice to see my children learning how to ride a bike.
