    Q.1) What is a volcano?


    Ans: A volcano is an opening in the Earth’s crust where hot lava, ashes and gases
    are released.

    Q.2) How do Volcanoes affect people?


    Ans: i. People can be injured or killed by ash and hard lumps of lava.
    ii. Ash covers buildings and crops. People become ill when they breathe in ash
    and poisonous gases.

    Q.3) What are tectonic plates?


    Ans: The Earth’s crust and upper mantle are rocks divided into large pieces
    called tectonic plates. These plates are always moving.

    Q.4) What causes an Earthquake?


    Ans: Movements in the crust create energy that transfers into waves which ripple
    through the Earth and across the surface as an earthquake.
