IMPORTANCE OF QUANTITATIVE
RESEARCH AND ACROSS FIELDS

At the end of this module, the student is expected to:

generalize the importance of quantitative research;

illustrate understanding on the importance of quantitative
research across fields; and
identify and classify research work to different fields.
The importance of quantitative
research greatly relies on the
production of the results. It should
IMPORTANCE always reflect accurate measurement
and in-depth analysis of a certain topic.
OF Researchers who want to obtain
QUANTITATIVE objective rather than subjective type
of data usually use this kind of
RESEARCH AND research. It is very important that
external factors such as the
ACROSS FIELDS researcher’s personal take on the topic
and his personal attachment to the
study should always be taken away to
really come up with accurate results.
Research has been widely
used in different fields from
the beginning of time. It has
been a way to uncover truths
and differences that are
hidden within categories.
Below are some of the reasons why
Quantitative Research is important:

Since quantitative research gives objective type

of data, it is considered as highly reliable and
valid. Most researchers whose focus is on
proving a point or something usually use this
kind of research.
Below are some of the reasons why
Quantitative Research is important:
It uses statistics to generalize findings. The results obtained
using statistical treatments are considered true and valid
because it does not rely on words that explain why a
phenomenon is happening but shifts the focus to finding
realness in something by tabulating data gathered from
various relevant sources and in the end, arriving at one
general truth.
Below are some of the reasons why
Quantitative Research is important:

It reduces and structures complex problems to limited

variables. In a quantitative research, another goal is to prove
or disprove a hypothesis. These hypotheses contain variables
which are to be tested in the experimental procedure. In a
qualitative research, we write down assumptions to explain
something but in a quantitative research, we narrow down
broad and complex problems to most specific variables.
Below are some of the reasons why
Quantitative Research is important:

Quantitative research tests theories or hypothesis

unlike in a qualitative research where we only give
assumptions and opinions about something.
Below are some of the reasons why
Quantitative Research is important:

It assumes that sample is representative of the whole

population. In a quantitative research, we make use of
large sample size to represent a population because its
aim is to achieve a more accurate result. If the sample
size is too small, there could arise external factors that
would affect the accuracy and validity of the results.
Below are some of the reasons why
Quantitative Research is important:

Subjectivity in a quantitative research is recognized

less. The judgement on the research does not rely
on the personal take of the researchers but rather
on the result obtained from the actual
experimentation.
Importance of
Quantitative
Research
Across Fields
Quantitative Research and
Anthropology
Many discoveries in the field of human behavior in the
society, conflicts from race to race and the evolution of
human have given enormous contributions to the
improvement of the human life. Anthropology is
concerned with exploring connections simultaneously,
amidst cultural differences, alternatives and identity.
Quantitative Research and
Communication
Communication is not a new area for research. The
purpose of research in communication is to search or
investigate about communication phenomena and direct
communication towards the accomplishments of individual
or organizational groups. Through research, people could
grasp an understanding about these issues in
communication.
Quantitative Research and
Accounting, Business and
Management
By conducting a quantitative research, business sectors can come
up with new designs of products and services and can figure out
whether these newly developed products could highly target the
demands of the society. Through quantitative research,
businessmen could also utilize the results to assure that there is
enough supply of their products and they could be helped in
deciding what to improve or where to increase their product
distribution.
Quantitative Research and Medical
Education
In this field, the most common type of quantitative research
used are observational researches like surveys or correlational
studies. These designs test whether an intervention is effective
or not. Such interventions include teaching-learning process,
curriculum and assessment with experimental groups.
Researchers usually do these interventions to cope up with the
emerging trends locally and internationally.
Quantitative Research and Behavioral
Science
How a behavior of one person relates to other types of
behavior- that is one of the many things a quantitative
research explores and seeks answers to.

In this field, the role of quantitative research is to

uncover patterns of behavior.
Quantitative Research in Education

Social problems need to be evaluated.

For this type of problems, a quasi-
experiment is commonly used.
Quantitative Research and Psychology

Quantitative research in Psychology focus on studying and

developing methods and techniques that will be used to measure
human behavior and other related attributes. Quantitative
psychologists’ work involves statistical and mathematical modeling of
psychological data. Thus, these persons are expert in designing
methodologies and studies to reveal answers from questions about
human performance, child development, memory, language
retention, and so on.
Quantitative Research and Science,
Technology, Engineering and
Mathematics
All sciences use quantitative research since
Science, as we all know, always aim to give factual
claims. However, other scientific disciplines like in
taxonomy and anatomy use the combination of both
qualitative and quantitative research.
