Plans and Layouts; and
3. Value the importance of Farm Plans and Layouts in the real
world.

E. Proper Discussion

Terminologies

-Now, I want you to take note and familiarize these terms as we (Terms will be presented through the
will be using them throughout our discussion. Powerpoint Presentation)

● Layouting- involves the location of the fields with

respect to the farmstead and public highways, the size,
shape and number of fields, and the location of hog-lots,
feed yards, etc.
● Farming - cultivating natural resources to sustain human
life and provide economic gain.
● Intercropping- planting two or more plants/crops other
than planting the main crop.
● Monocropping- A method of planting the same crop in
the same field for years.
F. Discussion

1. Lecture

Class, are those words familiar to you? Yes, ma’am. We had been encountering
it mostly from our major courses in
Those words that you have encountered during our activity Drafting Technology.
will be relevant to our topic this time. So, our lesson is all
about Farm Plans and Layouts.

So, what is the meaning of Farm Plans and

Layouts? Everyone, please read. (Students will be reading the text)

For you to be able to comprehend what the farm layout and
plan is all about, it is just similar to how you drafting students
were layouting residential, commercial and building plans
within the geographical location by optimizing the space.

The same way in Farm Layouting, in order to achieve

productive farming it is important to place the desired crops to
be planted in an efficient way.

So, these are the following steps in making the farm plans and
layouts:

1. On-Site Assessment;
2. Choosing of Farming System;
3. Identifying the Total Land Area; and
4. Arrangement of Crops

It is important that we are going to have first an On-Site

Assessment through layouting the map of the location that
labels the following:

● topography,
● boundaries,
● soil type,
● water resources and others.

For example is this one, (picture shown in the PPT).

After the Site Assessment, the important principle will be

applied which is choosing the type of farming system

What is a Farming System?

Please read (name of the student).

(A student will be reading the
presentation)
Farming System - refers to the mixture of crops, livestock,
aquaculture, agroforestry, and fruit crops as a form of farm
enterprises that optimized the existing environment for
efficient uses.

Thank you for reading (name of the student)

Farming System have the following types:

1. Lowland Irrigated Farming;

2. Rainfed Farming;
3. Upland Farming; and
4. Coastal Fishing Farming; and many more.
So, the Lowland Irrigated Farming refers to farming crops in
a field where usually there are no mountains or huge hills.
Irrigation was efficiently used in this farming.

For example, is this picture seen in the powerpoint

presentation. This kind of farming is commonly used for rice,
corn and other grain crops.

Next, the Rainfed Farming is opposite to the first one which

does not use irrigation. It means that this farming was only
relying on the water supplied from the rainfall.

This kind of farming is usually practiced in a location where

there is an insufficient water supply. Just like this example
(Picture shown in the PPT).

Another type of farming system is the Upland Farming that is

opposite to the lowland farming. This farming is practiced in
mountainous areas or within huge hill locations (picture shown
in the PPT).

Lastly, Coastal Fishing Farming is a form of aquaculture

through farming in a coastal environment with various marine
species (picture shown in the PPT).

Once done with the type of farming system to be used,

identifying the total area for your farm will be conducted as it
will be a guide for:

● How many rows should be created in the area?

● How many plants are there in the area?
● What is the distance between plants per row?

(picture shown in the PPT).

When it come to arranging the crops in a row, it comes with

different methods:

1. Monocropping - A method of planting the same crop in the

same field for years.

Okay, (name of the student) what does it mean? Ma’am, the meaning of monocropping
is that only one type of crop will be
Very good! planted on the farming land.

2. Intercropping- planting two or more plants/crops other

than planting the main crop.

How about this (name of the student)? Ma’am, it is about the practice of
cultivating more than two of the kind of
Very good! crop that was planted in the area.
3. Spatial Arrangement in Intercropping - A method of
planting two or more crops that optimizes the space for
increased yield, efficient use of resources and pest
management.
Ma’am, it is the application of
Based on your understanding, what does this mean (name of intercropping by making a purposeful
the student)? use of the planted crops in the land.
Right now, we will be knowing the key features in applying
Farm Plans and Layouts.
It has 10 key features essential in farm planning and layouting: The first five key features essential in
farm planning and layouting are:
May I call on (name of the student) to please read the first
five? 1. Efficient space utilization
2. Flexibility

10. Preservation of materials and equipment

2. Activity

This time we will be playing another game called the

Lip-synch Challenge. You will be grouped into 2. Choose 5
members as representatives of your team. I will be giving
questions to one of the representatives of the group and the
representative should be able to identify the correct answer.

The correct answer will be relayed to the rest of the members

by lip-synching.

Afterwards, the last member to be relayed with the

lip-synching will be voicing out the group’s answer.

Correct answers will be two (2) points each.

Any noise or cheating created by any of the members will be

counted as a deduction to their overall scores.

Are you all ready?

(Questions from the Evaluation Section
Ready, Set, Go! will be given to the representatives and
should be answered correctly)

Time’s up! (Students will be clapping their hands)

Congratulations everyone! Thank you for participating and

give yourselves a round of applause.

4. Analysis
