is being used:
Past simple:
- The simple past, past simple, or past indefinite, is the basic form of
the past tense in Modern English. It is used principally to describe
events in the past although it also has some other uses.
- Regular English verbs form the simple past in -ed; however, there are a
few hundred irregular verbs with different forms.
- Past continuous:
- The past continuous is made from the past tense of the verb be and the –
ing form of a verb.
- for something which happened before and after another action:
- The children were doing their homework when I got home.
- Compare: The children did their homework when (= after) I got home.

present perfect:
The present perfect is formed from the present tense of the verb have and
the past participle of a verb.
HAVE/HAS + IGE 3
We use the present perfect:
for something that started in the past and continues in the present:
They've been married for nearly fifty years.
She has lived in Liverpool all her life.
when we are talking about our experience up to the present:
I've seen that film before.
I've played the guitar ever since I was a teenager.
He has written three books and he is working on another one.
how it is formed:
have been + (verb + ing)
past perfect:
The past perfect is made from the verb had and the past participle of a verb:
I had finished the work.
She had gone.
The past perfect continuous (also known as the past perfect progressive) is a verb
tense that shows that an action that started in the past continued up until another time in
the past.
The formula for the past perfect continuous tense is had been + [present participle
(root form of verb + -ing)].
Unlike the present perfect continuous, which indicates an action that began in the past
and has continued up to the present, the past perfect continuous indicates something
that began in the past, continued in the past, and also ended at a defined point in the
past.
