ABSTRACT (Group 4: Mental Health of Children and Adolescents Amidst Covid-19 and Past
Pandemics)
The COVID-19 pandemic and associated public health measures have disrupted the lives of
people around the world. It is already evident that the direct and indirect
psychological and social effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are insidious and affect the mental
health of young children and adolescents now and will in the future. The aim and objectives of
this knowledge-synthesis study were to identify the impact of the pandemic on children's and
adolescent's mental health and to evaluate the effectiveness of different interventions employed
during previous and the current pandemic to promote children's and adolescents' mental health.
Methodology: We conducted the systematic review according to the Preferred Reporting Items
for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines and included experimental
randomized and nonrandomized controlled trials, observational studies, and qualitative studies.
Results: Of the 5828
articles that we retrieved, 18 articles met the inclusion criteria. We thematically analyzed them
and put the major findings under the thematic areas of impact of the pandemic on children's and
adolescents' mental health. These studies reported that pandemics cause stress, worry,
helplessness, and social and risky behavioral problems among children and
adolescents (e.g., substance abuse, suicide, relationship problems, academic issues, and
absenteeism from work). Interventions such as art-based programs, support services, and
clinician-led mental health and psychosocial services effectively decrease mental health issues
among children and adolescents. Conclusion: Children and adolescents are more likely to
experience high rates of depression and anxiety during and after a pandemic. It is critical that
future researchers explore effective mental health strategies that are tailored to the needs of
children and adolescents. Explorations of effective channels regarding the development and
delivery of evidenced-based, age-appropriate services are vital to lessen the effects and
improve long-term capacities for mental health services for children and adolescents. Key
Practitioner Message: The COVID-19 pandemic's physical restrictions and social distancing
measures have affected each and every domain of life. Although the number of children and
adolescents affected by the disease is small, the disease and the containment measures such
as social distancing, school closure, and isolation have negatively impacted the mental health
and well-being of children and adolescents. The impact of COVID-19 on the mental health of
children and adolescents is of great concern. Anxiety, depression, disturbances in sleep and
appetite, as well as impairment in social interactions are the most common presentations. It has
been indicated that compared to adults, this pandemic may continue to have increased long
term adverse consequences on children's and adolescents' mental health. As the pandemic
continues, it is important to monitor the impact on children's and adolescents' mental health
status and how to help them to improve their mental health outcomes in the time of the current
or future pandemics.
Abstract ( Group 9: The Predictive Strength of Academic Performance in Passing the Philippine
Nurse Licensure Examination)
This study aimed to examine the existing relationship between academic performance and
Philippine Nurse Licensure Examination (NLE) rating; assess the predictive strength of
academic performance in passing the Philippine NLE; and find out the percentage of
contribution of academic performance of nursing graduates in passing their Philippine NLE. This
study used correlational and regression analysis. Total enumeration was employed through the
use of archives, with 107 collected data from nursing graduates batch 2014-2016. Data
collection was from June 2018 to July 2018. The statistical test used were mean, SD, Pearson-r
and Multiple Regression Analysis. Results were as follows: regarding grade in Nursing Care
Management (NCM) Courses the mean (SD) score is 80.21 (2.27), regrading Related Learning
Experiences (RLE) Courses the mean (SD) score is 83.83 (2.17), regarding the Pre-board rating
the mean (SD) score is 72.89-61.55 13-12 (6.98), and Philippine NLE rating has mean (SD)
score of 72.89 (6.98). Regarding the relationship between academic performance and Philippine
NLE rating, for NCM Courses Pearson-r scored ( r = 0.59 , n = 107 p = 0.001 ) regarding RLE,
Pearson-r scored ( r = 0.56 , n = 107 p = 0.001 ); regarding the Pre-board rating, Pearson-r
scored ( r = 0.32 , n = 107 p = 0.001 ) The predicted NLE Rating, F (3, 103) 21.07, p = 0.001 R *
2 = 0.38 . Furthermore, the predicted NLE rating = -49+ (3.26 x Nursing Care Management
Grade) - (1.73 x RLE Grade) + (0.08 x Pre-Board Exam Rating). Conclusions include: Academic
Performance of the nursing graduates has moderate influence in passing the Philippine NLE.
Also, grades in NCM and RLE courses and Pre-Board Examination is a weak determinant in
passing the Philippine NLE, and grade in NCM courses has the highest predictive value in
passing the Philippine NLE. The nursing education the respondents received during their
baccalaureate year has relatively low influence, about 38% contribution in passing the NLE.
There was a problem with the increasing rate of healthcare data breaches followed by
unsanctioned internal disclosures among various healthcare organizations in the United States
due to the centralized system of securing data. Blockchain technology enhanced security
features that can protect sensitive data, however, the technology is not fully embraced by many
healthcare organizations. The purpose of this qualitative study was to understand why
blockchain technology is not fully embraced in many healthcare organizations despite the
security benefits of protecting health data and the ability to mitigate data breaches. Organization
of the study also included analyzing the business benefits of blockchain technology in
healthcare and the acceptability of blockchain technology among US healthcare institutions. The
framework for this study was influenced by the technology acceptance model developed by
Davis. A qualitative case study research approach was utilized, and a case study design was
appropriate to provide an in-depth understanding of the phenomenon. Data was collected via
semi-structured interviews to understand how healthcare organizations can take advantage of
the business benefits of blockchain as well as assess the adoption rate of blockchain within
healthcare sector. The findings suggests insufficient research exists on how to integrate
blockchain technology into existing health information systems to harness benefits like
accountability, protected data exchange among healthcare providers, traceability, data integrity,
and the mitigation of service disruption. Participants indicated lack of technical expertise as well
as a lack of resources and guiding regulations for implementing blockchain technology in
healthcare. The study findings may be used to improve the wide adoption of blockchain
technology in healthcare organizations.

Purpose: This study aims to explore the expectations and acceptability of a smart nursing home
model among Chinese older adults and their family members based on a scoping review that
defines the concept of smart nursing homes.
Methods: A qualitative case study was employed for this research. Semi-structured, in- depth
interviews and focus group discussions were conducted on WeChat. Participants were
purposively sampled through snowball sampling in Hainan and Dalian, China. A total of 28 older
adults aged 60e75 and six adult children were interviewed until data saturation was achieved,
followed by a thematic analysis.
Results: The expectations of smart nursing homes include: 1) quality of care supported by
governments and societies, 2) smart technology applications, 3) the presence of a skilled
healthcare professional team, 4) access to and scope of basic medical services; and 5)
integration of medical services. The acceptability of smart nursing homes included factors such
as stakeholders' perceived efficaciousness, usability, and collateral damages of using smart
technologies, and the coping process of adoption was influenced by factors such as age,
economic status, health status, education, and openness to smart technologies among older
adults. Conclusions: Chinese older adults and their family members have a positive perception
of the smart nursing home model. The qualitative evidence regarding their expectations and
acceptability of smart nursing homes contributes valuable insights for a wide range of
stakeholders involved in the planning and implementation of smart nursing homes.

Plant extracts have been used for centuries, due to its medicinal and pharmaceutical potentials.
The industrialization of plant extracts is an important part of advancing modernization of
traditional medicine and medical technology innovation. Herbal hand wash was formulated with
phytochemical properties of Plumeria acuminata. The objective of this study is to determine the
efficacy of aqueous leaf extract of Plumeria acuminata (Kalachuchi) as an antibacterial soap.
This study was a double-blind randomized controlled trial. Liquid hand washes were prepared at
concentrations of 50%, & 100%. Water served as the negative control, and the standard soap
served as the positive control. A total of 100 participants were divided into four groups with 25
sample population per group. The antibacterial activity of the formulated herbal hand wash was
examined thru colony counting of pre and post hand wash swab samples. Results revealed the
100% extract of Kalachuchi leaves showed better effectivity than that of 50% extract as an
antibacterial soap through post bacterial count handwashing. The 100% Kalachuchi leaves
extract exhibit the same effectivity with that of the standard soap in bacterial reduction in post
hand washing technique with an insignificant p-value of 1.00. In addition to that, 100%
Kalachuchi leaves was not comparable to water with a significant p-value of 0.05. The 50%
Kalachuchi les extract had an parable etily to water. The 50% Kalachuchi leaves extrac, ac the
tailadsan when con pare i mraf sted the same outcome. Therefore, the 100% Kalachuchi leaves
extract can be used as an effective antibacterial soap.
ABSTRACT
(DETERMINANTS OF THE INTENTION TO WORK IN AGED CARE: A CROSS-SECTIONAL
STUDY TO ASSESS GERONTOLOGICAL NURSING COMPETENCIES AMONG
UNDERGRADUATE NURSING STUDENTS)
There are huge demands for aged-care workers, and undergraduate gerontological nursing
education plays a critical role in providing academic and professional training. This study
examines the relationships of characteristics, aged-care education, and gerontological nursing
competencies with the intention to work in aged care. An online survey was conducted among
undergraduate nursing students between April and June 2022 to gather characteristics, relevant
aged-care education, gerontological nursing competencies, and intentions to work in aged care
data. Multivariate regression analyses were performed to identify determinants of the intention
to work in aged care. The results indicate that students (n=358) who were older (p<0.001) and
who were married (p<0.001) had higher intentions to work in aged care. Additionally, "Promoting
mental health and psychological well-being", "Providing evidence-based dementia care", and
"Enabling access to technology, were also associated with positive intentions. Overall, this study
provides evidence on determinants of the intention to work in aged care, particularly
gerontological nursing competencies.

The increasing demand for mental health services worldwide and the continuing development of
government policies for mental health require a huge contribution from psychiatric mental health
nurses. However, previous studies reveal that the roles of psychiatric mental health nurses lack
distinctiveness compared with other members of the health care team, thus the need for clearer
identification of their role. This study intended to describe the perceived roles of psychiatric
mental health nurses in selected hospital-based psychiatric settings.
A qualitative descriptive study design was used. A purposive sample of eleven (11) psychiatric
mental health nurses and twelve (12) non-nurses (i.e. psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, social
workers, and occupational therapists) participated in semi-structured interviews about their
perceived roles of psychiatric mental health nurses. Content analysis was used to analyze the
data.
It was found that the perceived roles of psychiatric mental health nurses are direct care provider,
facilitator of family and therapeutic group activities, manager of a therapeutic environment,
educator, collaborator, patient advocate, and researcher. It also showed that the roles of
psychiatric mental health nurses are established in hospital-based psychiatric settings and that
the perception of psychiatric nurses about their roles is cons
