1. The installation in a given hydropower plant has the following arrangement of working heads.
The plant has a reaction type turbine and the velocity at exit of the draft tube is 8m/s. The
efficiency of the plant varies according to the variation of the river stream flow rate.
The monthly flow rate and the corresponding efficiencies are as follows:

Based on the given data and the installation heads:
2. A turbine installation developing----- MW under ……m head with an overall efficiency of 0.85
is to be supplied from a reservoir. The estimated runoff for 12 consecutive months each 30 days
(in Million Cusecs) were: 93.5, 98.8, 86.3, 72.6, 65.3, 78.6, 111.5, 90.5, 84.6, 94.5, 98.6, and
87.3. Assume the reservoir is full at the beginning of the first month.
a. Determine the minimum capacity of the reservoir to ensure the required demand
and
b. Find the discharge wasted.

3. When a run-of-river plant operates as a peak load station with a weekly load factor of 20%, all
its capacity is firm capacity. What will be the minimum flow in the river so that the station may
serve as the base load station? It is given that:
Estimate the daily load factor of the plant if the stream flow is 15 m3/s.
4. A common load is shared by two stations; one being a base load plant with 25 MW installed
capacity and other being a standby station with 30 MW capacity. The yearly output of the
standby station is 10.5 x 106 kWh and that of the base load plant is 125 x 106 kWh. The peak
load taken by the standby station is 15 MW and this station works for 2500 hours during the
year. The base load station takes a peak of 22.5 MW. Find out:
(i) Annual load factor for both stations
(ii) Capacity factor for both stations.
5. Three turbo-generators each having capacity of 10,000kW has been installed at a hydropower
station. During a certain period of load, the load on the plant varies from 12000kW to
26000kW. Calculate
(a) Total installed capacity
(b) Load factor
(c) Plant factor
(d) Utilization factor
