I. Introduction:
In our childhood years, we have experienced different traditional games (E.g. Agawan base, patintero, tumbang preso, etc.). Traditional
games are a core part of our culture and have been a key element of our history and society for centuries. They serve as a link to our past
and provide a way to explore our heritage and traditions. Traditional games can also foster a sense of community and connection, as well
as providing opportunities for fun and learning. They encourage social interaction, creativity, and cooperation between players and
promote problem-solving skills.
Nadipahan ka is a chasing game originated in Parian, Calamba, Laguna which simply translates, “Touched by outstretched arms”. This
game can be played by any age and gender. The main obgective of this game is that the chaser is to run around the circles and touch the
players inside, without stepping out of the line. Chasing games requires a combination of physical and mental skills. Physical abilities
like speed and agility are crucial, while mental skills like strategy, observation, and pattern recognition are essential. These skills are
crucial for success and avoiding tagging.
II. Objectives:
Retrace one of the Philippines’ traditional games by understanding the game’s mechanics.
Adapt problem solving skills, strategic thinking, creativity, and sportsmanship; and
Perform the game in its accurate mechanism.
III. Methodology
While preparing for my presentation and game, I brainstormed about my motivation for how to make my students more active and
cooperative while also enjoying the activity. I tried to use different puzzle games and decided to use the guessing game that can unravel a
hidden sentence so that it will imprint on their minds when we talk about the topic in the future. After deciding what my motivation
would be, I started to decipher on how to create my instructional materials by using simple but colorful objects and decided to use some
colored cartolina and colored markers. After planning my presentation, I debated how or where to play the game. If I plan to play the
game outdoors on the field, there is a high chance of avoiding injuries, but while testing the field, I’ve discovered that the grass on the
open field is slippery, and there is also a risk of students slipping and falling. On the other hand, if I decided to play on the cement inside
the gymnasium, the chance of having an injury is high, but it will have a stable floor for running. I took the risk and decided to play
inside the gymnasium and planned to warn the participants to play safely and carefully to avoid taking the risk of having any bruises or
injuries. After strategizing on how I would present the topic to the class, I estimated the prizes and added prizes so the students would be
more energetic when playing the game.
IV. Results
The whole demonstration went smoothly. The students cooperated accordingly and enjoyed the activities, but since I had little-to-no
students who participated, I changed some of the rules, like turning the tag to “It.” After the timer ran out, I changed the rules for the last
surviving members. Even so, it still did not change the fact that the participants played safely with no minor injuries. And they enjoyed
the game as planned. Three remaining players survived the game in five minutes, and the catcher tagged the remaining players. 1 catcher
was chosen via the roulette wheel in the first game, then added another catcher at the last minute since the first catcher was having
difficulty tagging players as they reduced one-by-one. Resulting in 2 catchers, 3 survivors, and 13 tagged in the game.
V. Conclusion
In conclusion, The motivation for the presentation and game was to make students more active and cooperative while also enjoying the
activity. The presentation involved brainstorming ideas for instructional materials, such as colorful objects and colored markers. The
game was played indoors, avoiding injuries due to slippery grass. The presentation included prizes to increase energy and cooperation.
The game went smoothly, with minimal participation, and the participants played safely with no minor injuries. Needing a lot of
brainstorming and planning on what to do or how to make the presentation as steady as possible so that you can start your topic without
any problems and casualties. Creating a backup plan and applying critical thinking is also necessary for situations that need different
settings and difficulty of the game.
