load and No load.
26. A 250 V shunt motor has its armature winding resistance of 0.08 Ω. When connected to 250 V
d.c. supply it develops a back emf of 242 V at 1500 rpm. Determine: (1) Armature current, (2)
Armature current at the instant of starting. (3) Back emf when armature current is 120 A (4)
Speed of the machine at which it will operate as a generator in order that armature output is 87
A at 250 V.
27. The star connected rotor of an induction motor has a standstill impedance of (0.4 + j 4) Ω per
phase and the rheostat impedance 07 2 per phase is (6 + j 2) Ω. The motor has an induced e.m.f
of 80 V between slip-rings at standstill when connected to its normal supply voltage. Find (a) the
rotor current and power factor at standstill when the rheostat in the circuit. (b) the rotor current
and p.f., when the slip rings are short-circuited and the motor is running with a slip of 3%.
28. A 4-pole, 3-phase, 50 Hz induction motor supplies a useful torque of 159 N-m. Calculate at 4%
slip: (i) The rotor input; (ii) Motor input; (iii) Motor efficiency if the friction and windage losses
total 500 watt and stator losses are 1000 watt.
29. A 230 V shunt motor is taking a current of 50 A. Resistance of shunt field is 46 Ω and the
resistance of the armature is 0.02 Ω. There is a resistance of 0.6 Ω in series with armature and
the speed is 900 rpm. What alternation must be made in the armature circuit to raise the speed
to 1000 rpm? The torque remaining the same.
30. A 10 H.P., 4 pole, 50 Hz, 3-phase wound rotor induction motor is taking 9100 watt from the line.
Core loss is 290 watt, stator copper loss is 568 watt, rotor copper loss is 445 watt, friction and
windage losses are 100 watt. Determine; (a) power transferred across air gap; (b) mechanical
power in watt developed by rotor; (c) mechanical power output in watt; (d) efficiency; (e) slip.
31. A 250 V shunt motor runs at 1500 rpm at full load with an armature current of 15 A. The total
resistance of the armature and brushes is 0.6 ohm. If the speed is to be reduced to 1200 rpm
with the same armature current, calculate the amount of resistance to be connected in series
with the armature and power lost in this resistor
