    Assembly Instructions for STS-111 payload


    -Mobile Base System-
    Building the Mobile Base System (MBS )

    Top left photo: glue pieces together


    to build the platform for the boxes
    Right photo: all the boxes displayed.
    Note that for the payload bay version
    the large rectangular box (arrow) is
    completely white. When building the
    station version, this rectangular box
    has details.

    This is the main structure of the


    MBS. Fold as photo indicates.
    Glue both parts together, and then fold as photo shows on the right. Note that
    the color area faces inside (red arrow) while the white area faces outwards
    (black arrow).

    The main structure is glued on top of the basket like


    structure.
    These 2 parts are glued together as photo shows. Note the
    orientation of the V like beams as a reference. (red arrows)
    Bottom view to show where the rectangular boxes are placed. (arrows)

    Photos below show where extra support beams are placed.


    Finally, the last
    2 large support
    beams are
    placed as photo
    shows.

    Now the panel


    that holds the
    boxes is glued
    to the MBS as
    photo shows.
    Follow the
    photo as a
    reference how
    this panel is
    glued.
    Payload Attach Site (PAS) and Unpressurized Logistics Carrier Attach System
    (ULCAS)

    Glue both sides as top photo shows.


    Then add the small rectangular box
    and glue it to the small tab on the
    left of this structure. (arrow)
    The tab is folded downwards before
    the box is glued.
    Similar PAS/ULCAS are also
    present on other ISS modules such
    as the S3/S4 and P3/P4 trusses.
    As a historical note, before STS-
    126 docked to the ISS, the ESP-3
    was moved to the Mobile Base
    System and was attached to this
    structure in order to pave way an
    EVA to check the SARJ joint.
    Glue front and back sides for
    both inverted V shape figures.
    Then prepare to glue them as
    photo shows, in a 35 to 45
    degree angle.
    Act fast before it dries
    completely and glue the
    PAS/ULCAS to both tips of
    the V shaped figures and to
    the tip of the extension
    support beam.
    Arrows show where to glue.

    Attaching the Power and Data Grapple Fixtures

    Glue each cylinder to the bottom


    of each Power and Data Grapple
    Fixture.
    Follow the
    orientation of
    the Power and
    Data Grapple
    Fixtures before
    gluing to the
    MBS.
    Both photos show how the grapple fixtures are oriented on the MBS.

    The green arrow indicates where the end
    of the LEE effector end is glued. When
    building this model for payload bay
    version, the LEE is glued as this photo
    shows, but when building a Station
    version, the LEE is glued to the opposite
    side.
    Photo on the left shows the interior of the
    LEE effector end at 1:144 scale.
    Building the SDMP’s

    scale version of the
    SDMP panels.
    At this scale is very
    hard to fold the sides
    of each panel unless
    you use the right
    tools such as
    tweezers. The panels
    are stacked one on
    top of the other
    following the order
    as the arrow shows.
    To front of The narrower end
    payload bay will face forward to
    area the front of the
    payload bay area.

    This is a draft model of the SDMP stack. Try aligning the stack at one
    end. (arrow) The graphic shows how it should be glued.
    Building the End Effectors for 1:100 scale

    A
    Use the reference part
    and glue the cylinders
    on top of each circle.
    Glue the whole stack on
    top of part A.
