Summary:
Dr. Balan Sundarakani is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Business and Management at the University of
Wollongong (Australia) in Dubai. He has 8 years of teaching and research experience in the area of Supply
Chain Management across the various universities including the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli,
IIT, Roorkee, Hindustan University, Chennai and the National University of Singapore, Singapore. He is holding
an Adjunct Research Fellow with the Chair of Logistics Management with Swiss Federal Institute of Technology
(ETH), Zurich, Switzerland.
He earned a B.Engg in Mechanical Engineering from M.S (Now Anna) University and a M.Engg in Industrial
Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli and a PhD in Supply Chain Management
from the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, India. After having taught for 2 years in India he joined as a
Post Doctoral Research Fellow with The Logistics Institute - Asia Pacific, NUS Singapore. Subsequently, he
promoted as a Program Manager and Senior Fellow at TLI-AP. Dr.Sundarakani has completed research and
consulting projects for the EDB, Singapore, IBM, DHL and the Ministry of Defence, Singapore. As a co-
investigator at TLIAP he received project grants from Mindef, IBM and NOL Singapore organisations. The total
worth of his research and consulting projects are around S$2 Million. He received the prestigious A*Star
Fellowship, Singapore, MHRD Fellowship India, University Rank and College First Rank, India.
Dr. Sundarakani has published 60 research papers in refereed International Journals, National Journals and
Conference Proceedings. His research outcomes have appeared in international Journals such as International
Journal of Production Economics, Omega: The International Journal of Management Science, International
Journal of Technology Management, Journal of Advances in Management Research, International Journal of
Value Chain Management, etc., and which are frequently cited worldwide. His article published in Omega was
selected as a top article from the said Journal and Ranked No. 2 among the Science Directs Top 25 Hottest
Articles from July to September 2008.
Dr. Sundarakani is now serving with the editorial board of Journal of Advances in Management Research,
Emerald and previously served with the International Journal of Agile Systems and Management, Inderscience.
He also serves as a regular reviewer for the EJOR, IJPR, IJPE, JAMR and SCM Journals. He is a member of the
ORSI (India), IAENG (Hong Kong), POMS (USA), EuROMA (UK) and INFORMS (USA). Currently he is on the
“Supply Chain Asia’s” Executive Committee team as a Country Representative for Dubai.
