PERFORMANCE TASK NUMBER 2

SAMPLE OUTPUT

Research Questions

This research aims to determine the effect of utilizing localized reading passages on

Grade 10 students’ reading comprehension level. Moreover, this study will seek answers to the

following questions:

1. How may the level of reading comprehension of Grade 10 students be described prior

to and after the use of localized reading passage?

2. Is there a significant difference on the level of reading comprehension of the

participants prior to and after the use of localized reading passages?

3. What are the perceptions of the student-participants on their use of local reading

passages?

Significance of the Study

The findings and results of this study can give contribution to the teaching and learning

and beneficial to the following:

Students. This research can help learners in improving their skill in reading

comprehension. With the decreasing academic performance of the Filipinos, this research may be

an aid to learners to enhance not only their reading skills but also their critical thinking skills and

appreciation for the Filipino culture.

Teachers. Since the Phil IRI material is only limited to Grade 1 to 7, the localized

reading passages made in this research can be used to continue the administration of Phil IRI

even to the higher grade levels.

Also, the reading passages can be utilized as their teaching materials or supplementary

learning tools. Teaching reading would be easier and reading materials will be accessible through

them.

Education Supervisors. Through the results of this research, program supervisors can

design new programs for enhancing learners’ reading skills not only in comprehension but in

other aspects such as pronunciation and oral delivery.

Future Researchers. The outcome of this study may act as baseline for new study in

improving other English skills like listening or writing. Researchers could find other potential

reasons on how to solve the problems on reading comprehension. Through this, teachers can

devise reading tools to help students in improving their reading comprehension.

Scope and Limitation

This study is classroom-based research which aims to give assistance to students who are

less performing in reading comprehension.

Grade 10 students handled by the researcher this School Year 2022-2023 will be the

participants in this study. Those students among the five sections who will fall under the

frustration level will undergo the reading program. The schedule for the program will be within

the class. Students will receive localized reading passages twice a week. The administration of

the localized reading passages will be part of the daily lesson of the researcher. Sections handled

by the researcher are both in morning and afternoon sessions, so finding common time is a

challenge. Ergo, she will conduct it before the start of her lesson approximately for 10 minutes.

Participants will be assisted by the teacher in answering the activity.

However, this research poses some loopholes. Firstly, localized reading passages which

will be given to students are only limited in evaluating their reading comprehension. It will not

assess their reading speed, fluency, or pronunciation. Another problem seen by the researcher is

the lack of instrument. Though there plenty of reading materials about Bulacan are available,

there are no ready-made questions that will measure learners’ comprehension skill.
