III. Type of Community Immersion/Project: Livelihood

IV. Project Rationale/Background

There has been a great demand for a retailing business this past few years on the other
hand there also is a growing demand of starting one. It causes a great competition in such kind of
business. But during our observation those are commonly found flocking in one place, this made
them overlook other part of the community who cannot access or are having a hard time
accessing one. The other problem is that it causes a fortune starting a retailing business so
people who are less fortunate cannot start their own business due to financial difficulties. This is
one of the problems we are trying to deal with.

We also have found out that during the year 2008 to 2013 respectively, the findings
indicated that the high cost of education, and student finding for employment or when the student
is seeking for employment where the root causes of dropouts in the Philippines. This can be
associated in the student’s family having a financial trouble because of lacking source of income.
Based on the findings, it is recommended that the Philippine Government, through the
Department of Education, should prioritize the programs that will address this root causes of the
school dropouts. That is the reason why we have developed this project. We realized that an
additional source of income can make a big impact on the root cause of the problem. The
proposed project aims to give opportunity to the chosen family with a child attending college so
that it can further support its study.

The Project was designed and developed in order to help the struggling family of the
chosen barangay as well as provide a source of income for the chosen respondents. This helps
the community to build a business that not only benefits one but more without having to provide a
large capital. This way we can provide a community-based retail store in which they can run to
during troubled times.

V. Objectives

This project has been proposed to achieve the following objectives:

 This project aims to provide a long-term financial income to the chosen respondents in the
chosen community.
 To establish a business that not only benefits one but also the community in general.
 To provide a nearby sari-sari store to the places where the community has little to no access
to.
 To help a struggling family support their kid to school in a long-term basis.

VI. Project Description

The proponents, student of College of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Cluster 14 of

CWTS, is aiming to create a community-based Sari-Sari Store in our chosen barangay. During
the past few year we have observed a growing number or Sari-Sari store in different communities
in our province but these are commonly found in one places creating competitions with each
other, while also overlooking other part of the community who actually needed those especially
those who have a hard time accessing such. That is the primary purpose of this project, we are
ought to find the part of community and help people to access affordable products while also
helping create opportunities for them to create a source of income. This would include everyone
in community that is willing to invest a little amount of money to the chosen business that they
could be a part of. This way they can build a profiting business and earn with only a little capital. It
is called community based because this will not only be owned by a single respondent but a
partnership for everyone in the community as well as create an access to the people who is
having a hard time accessing one.

A Store for a Cause: A joint business for the community also aimed to give some source of
income to our chosen individual but will also provide a sense of cooperation since it is a joint
partnership that was owned by the community. The advantage of this project is that it can help the
chosen individual to start a business that can support the needs of the family who have a college
student as a member. The sari-sari store’s long-term objectives is the expansion of it, so that it
can help and provide more for the community and help more college student with their financial
problems. Everyone in our chosen barangay (Brgy. Poctoy) can participate in this said project.
That means it’s for the benefit of everyone.

a barangay captain of Brgy. Poctoy, Odiongan, Romblon. She is a single mother with a child
currently studying in Romblon State University and as a hardworking mom we felt like she is
deserving of our aid as our main objective is to help someone send their kid to college, which is
why we choose them as a respondent.
