Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Education maintains it commitment
to provide good nutrition to learners. The DepEd continue the implementation of School-Based Feeding Program (SBFP) for this SY 2021-2022 to encourage learners to enroll, improve their nutritional status, provide nourishment for their growth and development and help boost their immune system, enhance and improve their health and nutrition values. San Miguel Elementary School, located in Dulag South District is involved of the School- Based Feeding Program (SBFP) funded by the Department of Education (DepEd). The school has identified 19 severely wasted, 29 wasted who were also the beneficiaries last school year and the new 31 kindergarten learners. The SBFP vastly intends to convey immense contribution in the improvement of the nutritional status of these selected learners as well as to develop the academic achievement of the school. Deworming of the learners was first done to ensure that their bodies would absorb the nutrients from the food that would be taken afterwards. The parents were the one who got the medicine in the school and the deworming was done at home through their guidance. The school was allocated with an amount of Eleven thousand two hundred eighteen pesos (11,218.00) for operational expenses in line with the SBFP- Nutritious food and milk product, good for 56 days feeding of nutribun and fresh milk good for 30 days. The feeding of Nutribun started on November 09, 2021 and ended January 10, 2022. The delivery of bread was done twice a week and every delivery each beneficiary received 3 pcs of nutribun. But on the last delivery on January 10, 2022 each recipient received 4 pcs of nutribun. Last January 21, 2022 in the afternoon, the School Nurse received 1,264 packs of nutripacks at the Dulag Central School in the presence of Mrs. Fatima Ychon the feeding coordinator of the said school. So, on January 24, 2022 ( Monday) the school nurse distributed the nutripacks to the parents and received 16packs of nutripacks for every beneficiaries. The delivery of milk was done only once. Each beneficiary received 30 packs of fresh milk. The delivery schedule of fresh milk was once a week (every Monday). The parents of every recipient received 5 packs of milk equivalent to 5 days. The distribution of fresh milk was done right after the delivery of milk. The distribution of milk was started on February 01, 2021 and ended March 05, 2021. In connection to this, we oriented the parents that they were the one who were responsible of getting the bread in the school following the schedule upon delivery and we assured that safety protocols are highly observed. We ensured also that parents trained their children in executing health habits such as proper ways in handwashing, observing appropriate etiquette when eating, brushing their teeth and praying before and after meal at home. This feeding program is beneficial to teachers, learners and their parents. These selected learners who participated the feeding program have improved their nutritional status as well as their academic performance.
